A Saturday Surprise

October 12, 2024 at 8:40 am by Claudia

I sat in my chair this morning for a long time, reading a book and drinking coffee. After it became light, I eventually walked into the living room to raise the blinds. Then to the kitchen to raise another blind. I stopped at the window in the side door to look out at the property. And this is what I saw:

A morning glory! After Don heard me say “Oh my god!” a couple of times, he came to join me. He said “There’s your blog post.”

Yep.

There are lots and lots of flower buds developing and we’re trying to outrun a possible freeze next Thursday. So in the meantime, I hope lots of flowers open. I’ll take a photo of every one of them. I used to routinely see a lot of morning glories, but for the past several years, I’ve just had the vines and no flowers. No flower buds at all. So this is a little miracle. I’d almost given up. This year, I talked myself into sowing the seeds at the last minute.

And it’s our 26th wedding anniversary today.

An anniversary flower better than any bouquet.

Happy Anniversary to us!

Stay safe.

Happy Saturday.

A Rainy Friday Morning

August 30, 2024 at 8:33 am by Claudia

I’m sort of liking using a telephoto lens and not necessarily from a great distance. I love the softening in this photo. It’s so lovely and calming – at least, to me.

Sometimes I rely too much on my iPhone. It’s convenient. It does the job. But…the big girl cameras have been ignored lately and they need some attention.

It’s Friday. We woke up to rain. Sitting here while it’s still dark, hearing the rain fall, sipping some coffee? Oh my goodness, the perfect way to start the morning. The rain has stopped but I think we’ll have a bit more this morning. I was going to mow a bit today, but that can be put off until the weekend.

I finished another book yesterday, returned it to the library, and picked up another one. I started another John Sandford. It’s been a bit slow-going because my attention was scattered, but I want to give it a nice chunk of time later today.

Family Portrait

In case anyone missed this bit of information from Monday’s post, I am now moderating comments. That does two things – it eliminates any stress I might have discovering an inappropriate comment after it’s been posted, and it eliminates any stress you might feel having read it. It’s a pivotal time in this country and I will occasionally address the election. Just as in 2016 and 2020, “bad actors” will appear. They are not welcome here. A lot of bloggers moderate comments, I’ve just held off on that until now. So, if you think something has gone wrong because you don’t see your comment, don’t worry. I will approve it shortly. I’m on it!

I loved all the comments on what books you are reading. I hope you got some good ideas from other commenters.

Okay.

Stay safe.

Happy Friday.

Hydrangeas

August 26, 2024 at 8:12 am by Claudia

The limelight hydrangeas are starting to turn pink, a sure sign of impending autumn.

I was outside on Sunday with my telephoto lens, trying to capture a photo of the goldfinch who was munching on coneflower seeds. This little one was tenacious! He/She would perch on the top of a stem, or on top of the flower itself, and yank those seeds out. But only on the older coneflowers that were fading, not on the others. I’m going to keep an eye out today to see if the goldfinch returns. He was here both Saturday and Sunday.

I was up early today because Don had to get on the road early, so I heard the Carolina wrens peeping as they woke up. It’s fairly quiet on our busy road when it’s just turning light, so there’s an intimacy to that sound, as if the bird and I are the only ones aware of it. And I think we were.

Another foggy morning today, foggier than yesterday morning.

As the election heats up, I may be encountering more negative comments, like the 3 I had over the weekend. If I feel they are inappropriate, I will delete them and block the commenter. Not because that person is disagreeing with me, but because the comment is ill intentioned, and in one case this weekend, full of falsehoods about what I said in Saturday’s post. There’s no reasoning with that.

Anyway, not to belabor this sort of thing – because we’ve seen it before – but I’m going to turn on comment moderation. That means that you won’t see your comment right away. It will come to me for moderation. Since I usually monitor the blog during the day, your comments should be approved quickly. I just wanted to give you a heads up so you won’t think there’s something wrong with the blog and/or your comment. Okay?

I’m close to the end of my first John Sandford book and I’ve really enjoyed it. Suddenly, I have seven books from the library here at the house; two of them Don is reading, and the other five are in a pile next to my chair. I love a good thriller/mystery/spy novel.

I hope you had a good weekend!

Stay safe.

Happy Monday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
