Wonderful Surprises

March 23, 2009 at 8:32 pm by Claudia

The past few days have brought some lovely surprises. Meeting Christie Repasy was one, along with the opportunity to purchase 2 pieces of her work. Deciding what to buy was the real problem! If you had seen all the beautiful canvases in her booth, you would totally understand my problem. I finally chose these 2.

The painting of the roses is about 16 x 20. The painting of the sweet birds is about 8 x 10. I wanted a rose painting, but I couldn’t get the birds out of my mind. How to decide between them? Christie had a buy one canvas, get another free special and I gladly took advantage of it. They are hanging on my wall in the apartment and I will frame them when I get back home in July. Aren’t they beautiful? I have another in mind that I will order in a few months. It is a yard long painting of roses that will go perfectly over my window.

This morning I read my comments and found one from Betzie saying I had won a giveaway! I am one of those people who never win giveaways, so needless to say, I was surprised and delighted. Betzie is sending me two beautiful pink glass salt and pepper shakers. They are quite lovely and I can’t wait to receive them. I will post photos when I do!

And my alter ego, Claudie in Canada is featuring Mockingbird Hill Cottage on her blog this week! Thank you so much Claudie! We have a problem typing each other’s name – I always type her name as Claudia and she types mine as Claudie. We’re getting better at it, slowly but surely.

I must get back to work preparing for the last 2 weeks of classes. Soon I will reach the half-way point of my time here. More later.

My Orchid

March 19, 2009 at 7:26 pm by Claudia

Ah, Trader Joe’s. Source of inexpensive food, flowers, paper towels, and this – a lovely orchid. I have never been fortunate enough to possess one before this. And, of course, I won’t be able to transport it back to New York in July. First of all, I’ll be on a plane…but when we packed up and moved all out stuff out East on a truck almost 8 years ago, I had to give up all my house plants and pass them on to others who I could only hope would keep them alive. California won’t let you take a plant out or in. I tend to bond with everything – all plants have a personality, my little stuffed bear, Chloe, has a sensitive soul and hears everything I say, I won’t let anyone deliberately kill a bug, I talk to little spiders as I free them from the bathtub….what can I say? When I was little, I remember getting very sad everytime we bought a new car because I felt we were abandoning our old one and it would be heartbroken. I still have some of that in me.

So, I took a chance buying this orchid. Obviously, I hope it lives on and I have to pass it on to some friend in San Diego. It was just so beautiful that I had to buy it. And I will get attached. I already am.

Flowers keep me sane (and very happy) – Part 2

January 30, 2009 at 8:43 pm by Claudia

Look what arrived at my apartment this afternoon:

The card said, “I love you. Your boyfriend.” No, I don’t have a man on the side….there is only one and he is boyfriend, best friend, fiancee, husband. The best guy in the world. He hadn’t even seen the earlier blog post about flowers; he just missed me.

Aren’t they beautiful?

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
