A Slow Sunday Morning

July 31, 2022 at 9:06 am by Claudia

David phlox. It grows very tall and the scent is marvelous. I think I originally planted the white version, but after all these years, it pops up in pink, purple, and white.

I had a nice long FaceTime chat with Mere and Little Z yesterday. Mere is feeling a bit better each day. Z, though seemingly all better, still tested positive as of yesterday. He is getting so big, and my heavens, he’s a beautiful child. He’s also very, very smart and very, very funny. Oh, and “the boys”- dogs Hank and Bear – were also in on the call. Anyway, it was good to see that Meredith was a bit better. All of this happened while Don was away at the Farmers Market, unfortunately, so he missed out.

Currently reading another Mick Herron – London Rules. Truly the most delicious of spy novels, with deadpan humor and edge-of-your-seat action. Herron is brilliant. I think there are two more that I haven’t read. I’m reading them in order and if you decide to read them, you should, too. There is a definite progression with the plots and characters.

I’m headed outside shortly to take some photos of the flowers. This time in the garden is short-lived. I’m already upset that it’s nearly August. It goes so darned quickly, doesn’t it?

Today is my mom’s birthday. She would have been 95. I miss her terribly.

Happy Birthday, mom. I love you.

Stay safe.

Happy Sunday.

Dreams and Drought

July 30, 2022 at 8:44 am by Claudia

Last night, I had one of those dreams where I’m walking down endless corridors looking for someone. Don and I were both working on shows that were on tour, and it was a big holiday, Thanksgiving or Christmas. We happened to be in the same city so I visited his tour’s holiday celebration where there was lots of turkey and trimmings and food and desserts. I remember talking to many people along the way and then Don appeared and acknowledged my presence. Then he disappeared and I couldn’t find him and I was wondering why he didn’t stay with me. Then he morphed into my brother.

I normally don’t remember dreams, but this was right before I woke up. It was unsettling on many levels, but especially with the appearance of my brother, who will be gone 31 years on September 4th.

I didn’t have a chance to speak to him. It wasn’t one of the rare dreams I’ve had in which I’m dancing with him and incredibly happy that he’s there. He just appeared and disappeared.

Anyway, it stuck with me and the morning, so far, has been a bit off.

It’s unbelievably hot and humid out there and I’m worried about drought. Once again, we were supposed to have rain yesterday and overnight and as I clocked the radar during the day, it kept changing. Sure enough, the rain occurred to the south and north of us.

But not here in our own little microclimate.

And I can see no rain on the horizon for the next week. I water as much as I can during the day, but I noticed that some plants in the big garden bed have died back because of the heat. I also see that next Friday and Saturday are supposed to hit 99 degrees. This is insane.

Imogen taking the little ones for a walk.

This gives you a good sense of the difference in sizes for Blythe and the two different versions of this BJD doll by eatzongzi.

I’m back to using my big girl camera when I can. It’s so easy to rely on the iPhone, which is quite good and handy, but the fact remains that my stand-alone camera is much better.

Both photos on this post were taken with the big girl camera.

I think Don is off to the Farmers Market today, but I’m not sure yet.

Meredith is still feeling miserable. She said she can’t imagine how bad it would be if she was unvaccinated.

Stay safe.

Happy Saturday.

Bees, Butterflies, Blythes & BJDs

July 28, 2022 at 9:27 am by Claudia

I was focusing on the butterfly – a Pearl Crescent – and didn’t notice the bee flying in until this morning.

Happy surprises.

Dolls today – first up:

Beautiful Mei in a new dress.

And my new BJD, from a creator called “eatzongzi” who also created Wren.

The doll as named by the creator, is Mengmeng. Her new name is Lily. She has teeth.

She’s a little taller than Wren. I’m struggling to find shoes that fit her as her feet are bigger than Blythe feet. But we’ll get there.

I love her sweet face.

Watching me start a new puzzle.

Wren is so happy to have a big sister who doesn’t tower over her.

I think some hair brushing is in order. (They’ve been playing.)

Every new girl is settling in. A moratorium on more dolls has been issued from the home office. The display space on the music cabinet is full up with Blythes. The BJD girls, Wren and Lily, are now hanging out on the porch of the dollhouse. But everyone seems happy.

Meredith feels pretty awful. Covid has hit her hard. Little Z, on the other hand, was sick for less than a day and then he was back to normal. I told Mere it was the Universe’s way of telling her to slow down. She needs rest and she’s getting it. xo

Stay safe.

Happy Thursday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
