Pink Saturday

November 28, 2009 at 1:05 am by Claudia

Happy Pink Saturday, everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I know we over ate…I was more than a tad uncomfortable at the end of the meal!

This week I have another hatpin holder to share with you. I found it on Ebay. It is Nippon porcelain and I love it.

Ah, my favorite color combination of pink and aqua. The flowers are so lovely, as is the gold edging.

Oh, so pretty!

See the raised dots? I’ve found that such designs were called ‘moriage.’ It was the art of applying raised dots to porcelain, especially Japanese porcelain, in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s.

I’m having a lot of fun seeking out my latest passion – these beautiful hatpin holders!

Please stop by our hostess Beverly’s blog – How Sweet the Sound, for a list of everyone participating.

Pink Saturday

Happy Pink Saturday! As always, our hostess is Beverly – please stop by and see a list of everyone participating.

This is a piece of my Great-Grandmother’s Haviland China. It is the only piece I have at present because the rest of the set is in storage at my friend’s house in Detroit. Yes, Detroit. When I moved away from Michigan to go to Graduate School, I couldn’t take the china with me. My sweet friend Jan has been holding onto it for years. I’ve only flown in and out of Michigan, but never have been able to transport all those dishes home. The set is in a big wooden box.

Next year, I will be back there for my…(unspecified year)… high school reunion. I plan on driving there and packing up my china, along with a few other things that Jan has been keeping for me. When I was younger, I appreciated that the Haviland was my Great-Grandmother’s and was being passed down to me, but I really didn’t care a whole lot for the pattern. Now, older and wiser, I really love it.

Have a great weekend!

Pink Saturday

October 31, 2009 at 12:01 am by Claudia

Happy Pink Saturday, everyone. Beverly hosts this weekly event – please stop by and visit everyone participating.

In fact, a post by Beverly inspired me to start a new collection. She posted a photo of one of her hatpin holders and I loved it. I’d seen them before, but suddenly I saw them differently – does that ever happen to you?

I found this one on ebay and it arrived yesterday. Isn’t it lovely?

It is from Germany. I love the pink flowers!

I’m sure I need a new collection like a hole in the head…but I can’t help it! It’s only about 5 inches tall, it won’t take up too much space!

Have a wonderful weekend! Happy Halloween and Happy Birthday today to my nephew, David (he’s 16) and my wonderful brother-in-law, Ron (who is…we’ll just say 6 years younger than my husband!)

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
