Pink Saturday

January 9, 2010 at 1:05 am by Claudia

Happy Pink Saturday! Please visit Beverly for a list of everyone participating.

From a box of linens bought at auction, I found this sweet dresser scarf:

Oooh – pink! What to do with it? Then I thought of this undecorated window at the top of the stairs.

This window is in my ‘studio.’ I use the term loosely – but the whole upstairs landing and hallway is my creative space. This is a glimpse of the area just to the right of the window.

I had an extra curtain rod left after I hung curtains in the living room and bathroom. So I went to work and put up the rod. Then I ran to Lowe’s and bought clips to hang the dresser scarf. Total cost: $4.00.

It is so gosh darn hard to get a good photo with the light coming in. Here’s a couple more:

It was a gray and snowy day as I took these photos! I love my new valance – it works perfectly in the color palette of pink, aqua and lavender that runs throughout the ‘studio’ space.

Have a great day everyone. We are off to Manhattan tonight to see one of my former students, along with another friend of ours, perform in a production of Present Laughter by Noel Coward. It is on Broadway and I am very excited to see one of my favorite students work on a Broadway stage.

Pink Saturday

December 12, 2009 at 1:05 am by Claudia

Time for another Pink Saturday! Our hostess, Beverly, has asked us to speak about our favorite holiday decorations this week. I have a lot of vintage ornaments that I love, but my favorite ornaments are these rather new bottlebrush ornaments. Heidi carries them in her shop and I’ve bought about 8 or 9 of them over the past 3 years. They are big – about 6 inches across – and really have an impact on the tree. Plus, they are just wonderfully old-fashioned, which I love.

Who knows? I may buy some more this year!
In keeping with Pink Saturday, I also want to show one of my favorite vintage ornaments:

I am helping out at my friend’s shop today, so I will be away part of the day. I will be sure to visit everyone over the weekend.

Please stop by How Sweet the Sound to see a list of everyone participating.

Pink Saturday

December 5, 2009 at 1:05 am by Claudia

Happy Pink Saturday! I found these vintage ornaments in a little shop earlier in the week. I always try to add some vintage ornaments to my collection every year. Confession: I haven’t even begun to decorate yet. I don’t like to start until the second week of December. One of the ornaments is in my favorite color combination of aqua and pink.

Beverly has asked us to share one of our favorite memories of Christmas. Mine involves the magical world of Muirhead’s, our local department store in my hometown of Dearborn, Michigan. There were four children in our family, but for several years it was just my brother and me. Every Christmas, we would go there to see Santa. Muirhead’s designed this wonderful icy wonderland, rather like a giant igloo, with a train and all sorts of wonderful treats. You can see us on the train in the photo. My mother passed these on to me several years ago and they are very dear to me, especially since I lost my brother to cancer in 1991. Last year, I had them framed. My sisters came along later and their visits to Santa took place at other stores – I don’t know why. Maybe Muirhead’s stopped doing the Santaland? Eventually, Muirhead’s closed and went out of business. Luckily, I have these photos as a wonderful souvenir of those Christmas visits.

Please visit Beverly at How Sweet the Sound to see a list of everyone participating. We’ve got our first snow coming today and I am helping out at my friend’s shop but I promise I will visit all of you.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
