Checking In on a Wednesday

May 27, 2026 at 8:47 am by Claudia

The clematis is about to bloom like crazy. Over the years, it has moved from its place in front of the boxwoods and is now weaving its way in and out of the boxwoods. This shot is from my perch on the porch, looking down.

Looking toward the front lawn:

You can see all the buds coming up from within the boxwoods. More buds than I can ever remember seeing!

I yanked lots of poison ivy yesterday. The clematis is  lush this year, as is the poison ivy – also more than I can remember seeing. It’s impossible to get to all of it, of course, but I managed to eliminate quite a bit. Then I pruned the brambles, and the picker bushes, and carted lots of buckets of cut branches to the pile by the shed. Lots of chores were attended to inside the house, as well.

(Don’t worry, I’m careful with poison ivy: I have special gloves and special pruners and they are kept in a box marked “Poison Ivy.”)

The wallpaper package still shows as “not received” by the Washington DC post office. I think this particular facility has its problems. It seems to take them a couple of days to actually scan the label. I’m used to a quicker turnaround in my neck of the woods. Anyway, it’s frustrating. Lord knows there’s plenty of work that needs to be done around here, including mowing the lawn again, but I try to space that out because of my allergies. In the meantime, I’d like to be working on the dollhouse.

Grocery shopping is on the docket for this morning. We’re out of everything.

Exciting, right?

I’ve changed my browser and search engine. Google is now 100% AI and I want nothing to do with that. It you’re not aware of the danger of the huge data centers associated with AI, you should research that. And AI is essentially theft of others’ work, not to mention the amount of people who have lost and will lose their jobs because of it. They’re really trying to shove it down our throats. Nope. I stand firm.

Stay safe.

Happy Wednesday.

Those clematis are such a pretty color. Mine are purple but I don’t have as many blooms as you do this year.
I changed my search engine quite a while ago. I’ve been using Duck, Duck, Go and I turned off AI for that. I just don’t feel comfortable with it.

Yes, Don has been using Duck Duck Go for quite a while, also.

      Thanks, Ellen.

I use DuckDuckGo and I’m happy with it. The less AI I encounter, the better. Your yard looks beautiful every year, and the progress on your doll house, all those stalled, is lovely to see. Been trying to distract myself from the goings on, but it’s getting harder and harder to do. I feel unsafe, and I feel so scared for others for whom health and rights are being denied. For many years, your gentle posts and beautiful pictures and honesty have been a peaceful spot. Thank you!

I agree. We feel unsafe, as well.

Thank you, Nora. Take care of yourself.

I can’t imagine having to deal with poison ivy on a regular basis…guess that’s just a hazard you have with the size of your property. Is this a yearly thing, or does it require regular maintenance?

Your clematis looks very nice flowing on the ground…like a giant wave. Usually we see it clinging to a trellis…I like yours, it’s very relaxing.

We have another day of heat and no rain….so watering has commenced. Too much time, effort, and money has gone into our evergreens and plantings this spring to let it all wither.

Hope your wallpaper comes soon so you can take a break. Enjoy your day! ;)

Yes, and we’re surrounded by woods, Poison Ivy is a yearly thing.

      Stay safe, Donnamae.

I meant to write this the other day, but I forgot. I love the upholstery on the couch up against the wallpaper, very nice. You posted it a few days ago. Your property sounds like it is bursting with everything! I’m sure the rain has helped that. Wish we would get more rain here. I am already tired of watering! Take care of those allergies!

Beautiful clematis, Claudia. You’ve been really busy in the garden. Hope your wallpaper arrives soon. AI google is not always correct. I take anything they “say” with a grain of salt. Hugs, Elaine

And now I don’t have to read it. Everytime we use AI, we’re using the water and energy that humanity needs.

      Thanks, Elaine.

This is the first year my climatis has ever done anything. I don’t even know how it got there but I hope one day it will be as lovely as yours! That’s fabulous.

Good luck with the wallpaper. Which browser did you change to?

It took a while for my clematis to get going, I remember.

I changed to Vivaldi, which is based in Europe so they follow EU rules. That’s a good thing. No ads, unless you want them. No AI.

I use their Start Page as the search engine, but you have a choice. Duck Duck Go is one choice. Don uses it.

      Stay safe, Jeanie.

the flowers and plants are gorgeous! except for the poison ivy; i can’t compliment that. just glad it’s gone (for now), thanks to your hard work.

and what a lovely planter in the bottom photo! i especially like it with those purple flowers and the not-seen-around-here shape of it.

thanks for the ai-google tip. i get frustrated, (angry, really) about how greedy and short-sighted our elected “leaders” seem to be, selling us out. argh.

dealing with plumbing work right now. :/ hopefully it’s nearly done and then done for good. want and need to do other things that are easily more enjoyable and less costly.
and the clanking of hard metal tools on the ceramic tile will stop.

i’m sure he did a great job, but what did don think about his most recent gig? hopefully he’s pleased.

cheering you both on from here.

    stay safe.

Gigs are rarely fun. They’re usually at restaurants and bars where everyone is talking loudly. There are the rare gigs where the audience is there to listen, but this was no one of them. But he got paid, so that’s good.

      Thanks, Kathy.

I love your pic of the clematis flowers. The dress I wore last Sunday was a pink. I look pretty bad in pink, but Mike just loved that dress. Must have been the shade, must have had a touch of blue. I went in to see my old dr about some pills that had such a bad side effect on me. He said maybe I have a lesion on my spine and maybe I should be “in” the hospital. And the dr also said I shouldn’t be riding my tricycle. But that thing is So fun on our city’s hills. What a rush! My brother and I had great fun when we were young – he had no fear, and still doesn’t. I really don’t think I’ll ever receive money from the govt. Today is cleaning day at my dad’s. We’ve had really hot weather and I’d better get going. I have trouble figuring out what time I have to get to the bus stop.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
