Day One Hundred Eight

June 29, 2020 at 9:47 am by Claudia

After yesterday’s thunderstorms. This hollyhock has about 6 stems and Don counted 17 blooms yesterday. So beautiful!

We had thunderstorms all afternoon yesterday, one after another. I was tucked away in the office with the a/c on working on the dollhouse, listening to podcasts. Apparently, we might have some more today. We’re sure getting the rain that we needed and now it looks like rain will be a part of the forecast for the next week.

We’re hanging out here for the morning and then I’m driving Don to his eye appointment. This happens every two months or so; he’ll get a shot in his eye. Last time, you remember, he had a bad reaction to the shot, so we’ve taken your advice and are going to make sure his eye is thoroughly rinsed out. I’m driving him this time because, really, it’s absurd for him to drive home when his eyes are dilated, etc. I’ll wait for him in the car.

It’s a beautiful day here. Don’s already been up in the woods, gathering more logs to line the newly-created paths. I worked for about 3 hours yesterday on the dollhouse, making more ‘stones’ for the sides of the house. It is long and tedious work, so as I mentioned above, I find podcasts very helpful as I wait out the time it takes for each coat of paint to dry. Slow going, but I’ve made a deal with myself: I can’t do any decorating on the inside until I finish the outside. Since the decorating is my favorite part of the process, this little bargain will keep me on track.

Stay safe.

Happy Monday.

Your garden is looking very splendid these days! I’m looking forward to seeing your progress with the new dollhouse project – I enjoyed your IGTV “tour” very much.

A shot in the eye every two months? Yikes! I hope all goes well today. I got a little while to paint yesterday so that was nice. And your hollyhocks are stunning! Take care. Thank you again for reminding us of beauty.

He has been diagnosed with macular degeneration. If he doesn’t get the shot, he stands a good chance of losing his vision in that eye.

      Stay safe.

Such a pretty pic today!! The flowers are all starting to explode. Oh, what fun it is!

It is so extremely humid today. It has been and looks like it will be through the weekend with rain chances every day. We have some thunder going on right now, so the cat is in his “safe spot” right next to my chair. He usually hears it before we do, so he is our official warning.

Hope you have a good day and that Don’s appt goes well. When you can’t stay home everyone, PLEASE wear your masks!!

Yes, rain today and for the rest of the week. We’ve had thunder going on for two hours now. Stay safe, Chris.

Gorgeous hollyhocks! Our flowers are going gangbusters, too, finally. It’s extremely hot and humid here…good day to stay inside. Course, there is always the watering of the container plantings.

I plan on watching yesterday’s installment of the Claudia stories…the dollhouse tour. Yesterday got away from me.

Hope Don’s eye appointment goes well. Stay safe!! ;)

It went well – as well as getting a shot in the eye can go. But they rinsed it out thoroughly and it wasn’t as painful as last time. Thanks, Donna. Stay safe.

Well done with the hollyhocks! They can be tricky. And I’m glad you are driving Don to the eye doc. I remember your post about the last time. Having a driver — and a good rinse will be a big help.

You sound so productive. I confess, the weather, the virus and the rest of life makes me feel very self indulgent and not so productive! However, my puzzle is cracking along. I’m almost to the hard part — all the pieces that are more or less one color or two. Sometimes I swear they throw in two or three pieces from another puzzle just to mess with our minds because I cannot find ANYWHERE on the photo that this one series of three pieces goes. We’ll see!

That happens to me every time. I swear up and down that some pieces belonging to another puzzle somehow got in the wrong box. Stay safe!

Beautiful hollyhocks, such a lovely garden and property you have. Enjoyed your tours immensely.
Thinking good thoughts for Don and his shot. Went through that for about a year with my mother when her ‘dry’ macular degeneration went ‘wet’ in one eye. Probably in my future as well as my brother’s.
Odd note for the day among all dismantling of unwanted historical statues: Orange County folks are attempting to rid themselves of John Wayne. Quite amazing! Apologies if anyone is a major fan of his – I’m far from it, obviously.
    Best to you both.

hope don’s eye appointment went well and that there’s no bad reaction, just benefit!

glad you’ve had that needed rain and been able to enjoy it. the hollyhocks are gorgeous!

hope you’re soon done with those tedious “stones”. any podcasts you might recommend?

i do that same thing … telling myself that i can do the fun stuff only after the not-so-much-fun things are done first. sometimes it works, sometimes not … haha.

home now, showered and going to putter after getting dinner (i have no idea what it will be).

hope you have a nice night.

    stay safe!

Gorgeous hollyhock! I went to my mom’s today and troubleshot her irrigation system and discovered her hollyhocks have bloomed in the past week–6 feet high and gorgeous range of colors. I should have taken a photo! Gosh, I love summer!

    Stay strong and healthy!

Hollyhock envy. So enjoyed your IG dollhouse tour, hearing its history and where the pieces came from and especially the ones you made yourself. You are such a talented crafter.

I spent a few hours up in my craft room today sewing more masks for the family. I figure eventually the government is going to have to come to its senses and mandate mask wearing. And this will last for a indefinite period of time. My late mother, who always sewed and quilted, was amazed when I finally bought a machine and took up sewing in my late forties. Today as I worked I talked to her telling her she wouldn’t believe what I was sewing these days.

    Take care,
    Kay

      hej, kay.

i agree … especially with the last sentence if your first paragraph.

and i love the last sentence of your second paragraph.

hope you and your family are well, safe and stay that way.

ps … i wish i was as optimistic as you sound about the government issuing a federal mandate for everyone to wear masks. i hope you’re right.

Bless you for making those masks, Kay! You know, my grandmother was an extremely skilled needleworker; sewing, quilting, tatting, etc. My mom expressed no desire to do any of that until she was in her forties. My dad bought her a sewing machine, she took a class, and she proceeded to make our clothes. I think my grandmother was quite chuffed to see that happen. Stay safe!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
