Day Three Hundred Eighty-Five

April 2, 2021 at 10:14 am by Claudia

I was a little late getting them out but here they are. They really work beautifully with the Fiesta compote. I can see myself sitting at the round table in my housing in San Diego (I was working away from home for 6 months) cutting and then sewing them on my friend Ingrid’s vintage Singer Featherweight. It had belonged to her grandmother. She generously let me borrow it so I could make a quilt while I was away from home. My experience with that wonderful little machine led me to search for, and eventually find, my very own Featherweight. I found it in a local antique shop.

These little eggs are full of memories.

Later in the day yesterday, Don starting feeling achey and tired. Every muscle was sore. So he did have a reaction to the vaccine. He’s fine today. I was quite lucky and only had a sore arm and some fatigue. I felt very fatigued with the first dose, as well.

I ordered this little item for the fun of it. It was in the Etsy shop of Tiny Doll House NYC.

A miniature bust of Queen Victoria. The owners of the shop found it at The Kensington Dollhouse Show in London – the big miniature show in England. (How I’d love to attend it someday!) I thought it would be fun to find a place for it in the English Cottage. I’m not sure where, but I’ll figure it out.

I started reading The Shell Seekers  last night. You know that you can relax and just let the words pour over you when you’re reading Rosamunde Pilcher. It’s pure pleasure.

I’m plugging away – slowly – on the puzzle. It’s a botanical chart and the hardest parts are the many leaves and stems that are somewhat similar from plant to plant. I can only do a bit at a time before I want to tear my hair out. I’ll finish it, rest assured.

I’m anxious to get outside and work, but the temps went down to the mid-twenties last night and the same will happen tonight. It’s too cold out there. Hopefully, I can start doing some outside chores next week.

Stay safe.

Happy Friday.

That compote was made for those eggs….or the other way around! They are a perfect match….and the perfect compliment to spring.

Hope you enjoy your book….and your puzzle. Sounds like this puzzle is a little more difficult. It is going to be 70 for 3-4 days…so I will be doing some minor outdoor work this weekend. I can’t wait!

Glad to hear Don is feeling better. Enjoy your day! ;)

      Thanks, Donna.

The eggs are adorable. They also look like alot of work.
I woke up yesterday to snow on the ground! Just enough to make everything white. And it was cold all day. Fortunately, the snow was gone by afternoon. It is sunny today but still cold.
And in good news…I stressed so much about jury duty in Feb the same week my 2nd dose was due that I had it postponed til April. I just checked and there are no jury trials next week so I am free!
I’m glad you guys are feeling better now.
Have a good Easter and stay safe

I always love it when I get out of jury duty! The last time I was scheduled, I called in every day and wasn’t needed.

      Stay safe, Marilyn!

Those eggs are fabulous, Claudia. Apart from the memories, with which I’m sure they are loaded, they make such a wonderful impact and are perfection in your “golden compote,” which screams “Spring is here!” OK, maybe you don’t recognize it because of the weather but here it is. (We had snow, though not measurable, so I am not blinded by the light, just a little giddy!).

It’s cold here, too, but the Easter Weather Bunny has said it will be 67 on Sunday — and sunny. Perfect weather for an egg hunt for someone who is closing in on three. I stuffed the eggs with all sorts of tasty things his parents will hate (and probably monitor!) and made his little basket today with a book, play doh and truck stickers. I think I’ll be more excited than he is. We’ve waited a long time for this!

Our traditional egg dyeing/Life of Brian gig with our also-vaccinated friends is on tonight after a hiatus in 2020 (done only on Zoom, which doesn’t have quite the charm). I feel almost giddy with excitement! Can you feel the happy all the way from Michigan?!

    Happy weekend!

I always enjoy your fabric eggs and the Fiesta compote is perfect for it. I find the colors so pleasing. I’m happy you didn’t have many side effects from the 2nd dose but even for Don it was only a short amount of time. I feel so much safer now. Love that bust, how I enjoy watching your doll houses evolve and be decorated. Yes we have a cold spell also. The birthday month is here. April has my son in law Blake turning 40 on the 3rd. Tiger turning 10 on the 7th and Scout turning 6 on the 16th. All my babies are getting so big. Enjoy your weekend. Hugs!

sorry that don had a reaction. hope he continues to feel better … quickly… and that you stay well.

love the Easter eggs and compote together! great work sewing the eggs and lovely fabric choices.

glad you have a favorite book to read again, especially if you need to take a break from the puzzle.

i wasn’t sure it would happen … yesterday a nurse from my doctor’s office said i should not get any other injectable (vaccine or those bone-building shots) within fourteen days of getting the covid vaccine. osteoporosis doctor was fine with it as was pharmacist (even though i had those bone-building shots just this past monday) … but i am praying and putting my trust in God who made it possible for me to receive my first (moderna) shot against covid today! yay! :) then i drove to a pretty little lake halfway between where i got the vaccine (a small town a half-hour or so from here) and home, drank some gatorade because i read that could lessen the chance of a reaction and just watched the water for a while. now am off to get groceries for some family members (my office is closed for Good Friday).

hope you are having a good and stay safe!

thanks, claudia and chris. happy you all have both vaccinations.

i am not feeling that relief or euphoria yet. hope to. just worried about things, mainly my family. also how life will be, how many people are choosing to not get vaccinated, that my boss doesn’t require masks …

went for a nice drive with some members of my family today (they were in a separate car). went to a small lake with thousands of old trees around it … could barely see the water from most places you get to by car (there is a bike path). saw some geese and not many people. came home and sewed a pillowcase before it got dark (lamps help, but … weirdly… there is no ceiling light fixture in my living room).

anyway, hope you are having a nice day.

        stay safe!

Claudia, a beautiful collection of eggs! The most unusual eggs I’ve seen are embroidery stitched onto real egg shells, after the egg inside has been blown out.

Hope you and Don don’t get any more side effects. My daughter was fine with shot #1 but had massive reaction two weeks later.

    Enjoy your reading and puzzle!

Our side effects were relatively minor and happened the second day so we should be fine from now on out.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a bust in miniature like yours; it’s cool! What is its composition; is that porcelain?

Loved The Shell Seekers book but I also remember enjoying, MANY years ago, the Hallmark movie presentation with the great Angela Lansbury, too. I was intrigued with the location shots of Ibiza. Spain and its offshore islands was somewhere I really wanted to see/go but could just never seem to pull it off back in the day.

Speaking of a vacay destination like the Balearics, just saw the headline that travel is okay/low risk if fully vaccinated. Don’t know how I feel about that yet but I’m also not going anywhere soon, so … (I’ve got friends just itching to hit the road; and, wow, a bunch of people sure are on SoCalif freeways yesterday and today; of course it was in the 80s at the beaches yesterday, but my husband had to go out of town Weds & yesterday and he said, on a highway he drove for almost 20 years [crossing into L.A. County], he’d never seen such traffic [which we assume is about perhaps an extended Easter getaway; still, he was gobsmacked; I guess there’s just a lot of people not working or with flex hrs; kids not in school, etc. {nevertheless, I’m glad I’m home ’cause I hate crowds no matter if it’s Time of Covid or not!}]).

I always love seeing your pretty fabric eggs. I have to go look up ‘Featherweight’ now because I don’t know about it. I have my grandmother’s Singer treadle from the 1930s (shipped to the farm in the middle of nowhere via the Sears catalog); my mom’s (not treadle but in a cabinet) from the 1940s (it’s still the only machine I know how to sew a seam with because it’s the one I grew up learning on; alas, I am no seamstress although I wish it wasn’t so!).

Just finished the Shell Seekers…great book.
So glad you’re both doing ok now after your vaccines. It’s a great feeling to know we have lots of protection.

Have always loved those eggs of yours, but they look especially pretty in the pretty bowl!!

My hubs had a similar reaction to his 2nd one as Don did, but it left just as quickly as it came on. Certainly worth it!!

We have 70’s for the next few days and some sun! Yay!! Take care.

Love those eggs!! One year I tried my best to make some, following your directions which were clear as crystal, but I never could achieve what looked like an egg! They are so whimsical. I love the bust of Victoria! A perfect component for the English cottage. So sorry that Don had a vaccine hangover. One of my friends who already had Covid, also had a not so pleasant few days after his 2nd dose. And another friend has been quite seriously ill with a respiratory problem ever since she had her 2nd. That’s very frightening. I’m kind of glad that I didn’t know that before my second jab or I may not have done it. I’m rather worried about her. Still, I believe that overall the vaccines are the correct choice at this time. Stay well!

Don’s side effects were really mild – bothersome, but not terrible. Mine was just being very, very tired.

Is your friend sure that her respiratory problems are related to the second shot?

      Stay safe, Nora.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
