It’s officially Spring. That is not determined by the calendar, but by the reappearance of peepers (tiny frogs) who live in and near the pond next door. They peep throughout the night and it’s the most wondrous sound. We first heard them last night, along with the bullfrogs that also live there.
Now I start my nightly ritual; I stop by the window at the top of the stairs, listen to the peepers, and call out a hello.
The light this morning.
I received some miniature books in the mail yesterday from Landau Books on Etsy. I’ve ordered from her before.
I also ordered a pack of Arthur Ransome books (of Swallows and Amazons fame) but the photo is too blurry to post here. The shelves are gradually getting filled, but I realize that I need to order a few books from other miniaturists so that there are various book sizes. Landau Books features a lot of British authors, which fits in perfectly with my English Cottage.
The puzzle is almost done but I’m in the midst of many black and almost black pieces and distinguishing the difference requires a certain quality of light. And patience. I got a lot done yesterday and I’m thinking I’d better order another puzzle pronto.
Tonight we will finish A French Village. Sob. I’ll really miss it. I’ve also started Snow by John Banville, an Irish writer – a mystery. I’ll just say that I’m not all that far into it and I’m already blown away by his writing. His descriptions are brilliantly written.
Okay.
Stay safe.
Happy Tuesday.

I love the sound of peepers. I am watching for the robins. I’ve seen a bluebird and a goldfinch but no robins yet.
The little books are so cute. The detail is amazing. I wish I had a bookcase like that in real life.
Enjoy your day!
Claudia says
I saw several robins a week ago, but I think they were just stopping off here on their journey further north.
Stay safe, Marilyn!

Since I love books, the miniatures with such detail and love make me very happy! I think every home should have a library and a piano (or a guitar, trombone, or drum set). I’ve noticed lots of commercials lately and home dec shoes featuring upright pianos. I hope they are making a comeback. You may remember I had the chance to have my aunt’s beautiful spinet…I still grieve it. But my grandmother’s giant Thompson is hanging in there, and I keep saying this, too, but I hope this spring to get it turned or rebuilt. I’m so glad you have your Chickering. Enjoy the sun this week! The light in your cottage is always beautiful.
Claudia says
I sure hope they’re making a comeback as well! I love pianos and the fact that I see them being given away for free breaks my heart.
Stay safe, Nora.

We have had robins in the yard for about 2 weeks now. I love to watch them do their hopping-bobbing through the yards. The grass has the slightest tinge of green to it now. The chives and rhubarb are up, as are the sedum and black eyed susans. New discoveries nearly every day. The lilacs also have some fat buds starting. One day at a time.
Oh, those sweet little books you ordered! My DIL sent me a pic of the little one in her room with all kinds of toys surrounding her, and she is crawling to her little bookshelf full of books. It is the best picture ever, and I will treasure it. I bought her the Grandma’s Garden book by Chelsea and Hillary Clinton for her BD.
Hope your day is lovely and you get to spend at least a few moments outside. Take care.
Claudia says
We only had them for a minute or two – several robins traveling further north. I’ve not seen any others yet.
And no green in our grass yet! But we’re getting rain today so I imagine the grass will be turning green soon.
You’re a good grandma, Chris!
Stay safe.

that light is so beautiful … exquisite! glad you saw it, shared it with us and enjoy it.
same with the puzzle, even the tougher parts. glad they are voluntary and you have fun with it.
same with those teeny-tiny books. (how do they get the cover images so small yet so clear?!?)
same with your little peeper neighbors. :)
i live exactly one block from the entrance to a lovely little park … truly one of my most favorite places on the planet. to get into the park i walk down a couple-blocks-long and slope-y road (that is fun to ride down on a bike, no hands on the handles … obviously and sadly not done since my back broke) that passes a little outdoor amphitheater and leads to a swimming pool and a biking/hiking path. there’s a smaller walking path to get you through trees and along a little creek and pond on to the pool and larger path, all on one side of the street; some very large homes with super-steep driveways are on the other side. there’s a canopy of huge old trees and it’s a nice, literally cool place to be in summer (to be enveloped in all that green is powerful to me), but i love it all year long. i’ve seen lots of deer there, also frogs. mostly i hear them and it is such a favorite place for me to spend time. very, very soothing. and at the top of that hill, by the entrance to the park, is our very sweet art center. i live on a busy street, but having that park and the art center within one block from where i live is absolutely wonderful and healthy for me. i live in a place built in 1950 and have had to fight the “cold” (to me) feeling of its architecture by filling it with lots of color, textiles, art, books and other favorite things, but the location is so good that i don’t really think of moving. all that to say, i can appreciate your enjoyment of the peepers and glad you have them nearby, too. and that the weather is nice enough for them to come out and sing for us!
hope you are having an easy day. stay safe!

How lucky you are to have that beautiful park so nearby! I imagine it’s everything it should be – a restful, beautiful place.
Stay safe, Kathy.

i am blessed by that location … the park and the art center. actually, that park (which isn’t super-big) is connected to a second park which has been the site of many weddings for having a beautiful rose garden. and the south end of “my” park connects to a much larger park that is across a big, busy street from a small-but-wonderful lake (less than two miles in circumference) and which is sadly, in my opinion, going to be gentrified a bit too much for my liking. i love the little lake and my neighboring park. grateful they are here.
hope you are having a good start to your day!

We have sunshine after a dusting of snow overnight. The crocus are still blooming and the big daffodils have started. But not a froggy to be heard yet (we have Western Chorus frogs rather than the spring peepers). It’s not truly spring here until we see the forsythia bloom. I can’t wait!
Meanwhile I bought a heat mat to start seedlings and jumpstart my garden. I’m also sprouting lotus seeds this year and learning a lot. Yes, I should wait until May as recommended in the US, but I couldn’t resist experimenting with one seed from the packet. With any luck, I might have lotus flowers blooming in my pond next year. One can hope!
One week till our second vaccination.
Stay healthy and safe!
Claudia says
Same with us – one week from today, Roxie!
Stay safe.

Welcome back, Frogs!
Those books are so charming. I can see why you’d like lots of different sizes but it will be hard to match the quality of these! (Or will it?)
That puzzle would TOTALLY make me crazy. Bravo to you!
Claudia says
I don’t know! These are the best miniature books I have seen, but it’s worth investigating!
Stay safe, Jeanie!

Beautiful light streaming into your living room. I love seeing how the light changes from day to day in my home. I’ve been changing the location of my plants accordingly.
Sweet books! Enjoy your evening! ;)

Thank you so much, Donna!
I feel the same way about light. It fascinates me.

I love your living room. The green sofa, the green pottery and green plants. My favorite colors. I should get to work and tidy up my place or I will be jealous.
Claudia says
This place needs some tidying, Jan. Believe me!
