I spy paperwhites! The first two blossoms have emerged on the plant in the kitchen. This makes me very happy.
Let’s see. We went shopping yesterday. Always exhausting. It was warmer during the day and the snow and ice were starting to melt. I went outside to get the mail and noticed that part of our gutter was hanging down. Yikes. Went inside, got Don and after an hour or so, Don managed to reattach it. The weight of the built up ice was just too much for it. Whew. Glad we could fix that.
Interesting note about the weather. There’s still a lot of snow on the ground, but each day up to and including Christmas will be warmer than normal, with heavy, heavy rains on Christmas Eve and then a combination of rain/snow on Christmas. The high on both days will be in the low fifties. What the??? Then it plummets 20 degrees on Saturday. I just hope that after all we went through with that winter storm last week that we have some snow on the ground on Christmas. We really did earn it.
The simple tree that lives in Don’s mini studio at Christmastime. I had to point it out to him. He’s completely into his music right now. Speaking of which, Don and Dan released a new single. Go to this link, and read the Dec. 19th post, which provides a link to the song. She Saves Me was inspired, in part, by our beloved Scoutie. A wonderful arrangement of the song, with Dan playing the mandolin.
The Beacon Hill kit is arriving today via UPS.
Still awaiting actual Christmas presents, though. Don is waiting for one package for me. I am waiting for one package for him. I’m also waiting for my 2021 planner, which was shipped on December 10th from a state that is not far from me. Sigh.
Tonight’s movie is one of my all-time favorites, The Shop Around the Corner with Jimmy Stewart, Margaret Sullivan and a cast of terrific character actors.
Oh, and I’m driving Don to the eye doctor today for his shot.
Stay safe.
Happy Tuesday.

Wow! That song is amazing! Your husband has a beautiful singing voice. It must be wonderful to hear his music right there in your home!

Thank you, Patty!

praying that the shots go well, help don’s vision.
thanks for the link and to don for sharing the song! would that *all* the world could love animals (and other people, too) so much that they’d be inspired to create something beautiful like that song.
kudos to you and don for noticing and fixing the loose gutter! good luck with the weather. and getting the packages and everything else you want done.
the paperwhites are gorgeous.
things are very slow on my end … it’s mostly me. almost everything is ready, just need to be wrapped and some groceries bought. there are four packages not yet received, but it’s okay as they are gifts for birthdays and other days, not Christmas. i like to buy presents all year long. :)
that procedure for my back is kind of in the works. my doctor and the doctor doing the procedure need to talk after the latter gets the mris and can make sure the process will help heal the fractures, then schedule it. sounds like it could be up to three weeks from now.
did anyone see the saturn-jupiter alignment last night? most members of my family went out into rural areas to get away from city lights. took a while, but we found it! pretty cool and something we like to do in our family.
when it’s safe to travel and share cars and hotel rooms again, we want to go out west to stay by some of those “dark sky” reserves to better see the stars and planets.
well, i best get to wrapping presents and then whi-knows-what. just glad to have the day off.
hope you have a good day and stay safe and well!

Glad the procedure is in the works, Kathy. And I’m glad you don’t have to have it around the holidays. I couldn’t see the alignment as we had overcast skies. We have them today, as well, so seeing it tonight seems like it will be fruitless.

I enjoyed Don and Dan’s song. Lovely!

too cloudy here for conjunction trying not to take it as an omen. I’ll be sad if Mother Nature takes back the snow. love the golden tree in don’s studio links don’t always work for me so I hope I can hear it I believe I saw that the ridiculously stingy stimulus package does provide something like $15 billion for theaters/arts. I hope some of that will find its way into your hands no doubt that bonus of $600 will save the day for everyone. Bah humbug! But I’m trying to focus on the beauties of the season, and our many blessings, chief among them a change of administration. Better than a hippopotamus for Christmas! XO
Claudia says
We couldn’t see the conjunction either.
Stay safe, Nora.

Hey Claudia, did you jump a day?
I spy Day 283 , then Day 285 on two successive days. Just wondering…
Claudia says
Yes. But there’s not two successive 285s. Only one, which I just edited. But there would be if you hadn’t told me about it!
Thanks, Petra.

The original “She Loves Me!” I like that version so much — what a good film for tonight.
No snow here but cold and they threaten it. It was too cloudy to see the conjunction last night, which made me a bit sad. But my paperwhites are budding (not blooming yet) and that makes me smile. I packed up cookie plates today and Rick made baguettes. We’ll do deliveries tonight. Just drop and dash but at least for a brief moment we’ll see our friends faces (more or less, through the masks!)
LOVE that tree and looking forward to the song. Happy week.
Claudia says
I like She Loves Me, but Shop Around the Corner beats them all!

Don has a beautiful voice. I could just picturing him in your cottage, singing that song. He has a very soothing voice.
Love the paper whites! Stay safe! ;)

Love the song. Thanks Don. It should be a county hit. Perfect for Ian Flanagan from the voice. Lol.
You have a lovely voice Don.

Thanks, Kay!

Thank you for the song. It’s lovely and soothing. It’s a hard day for me as tomorrow is the anniversary of my brother’s passing. Five years. And then I lost Charlie and you lost Scout. Things are good but not the same. Wishing you a peaceful time as we approach Christmas.
kathy in iowa says
hej, linda …
wishing and praying that you have peace and an easier holiday season. better days are ahead!

Claudia says
Yes. It’s a tough time. It started with my dad’s death at the end of October, then you lost your brother and then Charlie and Scout within a week (or less) of each other. A very sad stretch for both of us. Sending you love and a big, big hug, Linda.
Stay safe.

What a great song!! Thanks for sharing. We couldn’t see the Christmas star last night due to clouds, either. Tonight is the same…. Pretty sure I won’t be here for the next appearance in 80 years.
Frosted all of the cookies that needed to be frosted today. My kids will mix the cookies, and bake the cookies, but won’t frost or decorate the cookies. I am hoping our granddaughter might like to help in a couple of years.
The snow we got about 10 days ago is just about gone. It is supposed to be 43* tomorrow but then highs in the low teens on Thurs & Friday with wind chills of about -10*.
Hope Don’s shot went well today. Oh, and glad you saw the gutter!! Did the guy ever make it out to look at your porch and shed? Take care.
Claudia says
The shot was bothersome, a bit more pain and blood in the eyeball than usual. But that happens occasionally. I’m making him rest today.
We’re going to have a mess over Christmas Eve and Christmas. The weather will not be pleasant. There are already flood warnings because of the snow pack and all the rain we’re going to get.
That guy never showed up. We’ll call him again in the spring – unless things get worse. It’s a bad time to get anyone to come out, I think.
Stay safe.

Dear Claudia, thank you for sharing Don’s recordings. I listened for the first time today and had to go back and listen to all, I’m hooked! December is a sad month for me as I lost my mother and my first husband some years ago during it, so as the month rolls along I keep getting sadder and sadder, getting worst the older I get. But right now listening to your Don’s voice and that music I felt the sadness lifting from my chest! I feel lighter! Thank you for the gift!
kathy in iowa says
hej, marlene …
praying for you to have peace, for that sadness to lift and that you know God and are comforted by His promise of eternal life.
hearing don’s song is a gift, isn’t it?! hope you’ll listen again and do other favorite things that bring a smile, help you relax.
stay safe and well. hope you can enjoy the holidays ahead.

ps … as someone who fights depression, every day has for me a bittersweet-ness to it, but my march is like your december. sending a virtual hug, if you like.

So glad that Don’s music helped you, Marlene. I read your comment to him and it touched him deeply.
Bless you. Sending you love and understanding.
