Dollhouse: My First Try at Wallpapering

October 10, 2011 at 5:10 pm by Claudia

This cold has smacked me in the face. I feel just plain yucky and I barely have a voice. I couldn’t do much of anything today, so I stayed in my pajamas and decided to tackle some wallpaper for the dollhouse.

It isn’t easy. In fact, I found it quite difficult. I always do some research and ask some questions of miniaturists because, let’s face it, I know nothing. After all that is done, the best thing for me to to do is just jump in.

I ordered some wallpaper from Itsy Bitsy Mini – they have such lovely designs. My big question for the living room was beadboard or no beadboard? In the end I went with no beadboard.

I wanted to give you a close up of this subtle, pretty pattern.

I think it looks pretty good. It’s not perfect and the perfectionist in me has trouble with that, but hey, I’m learning as I go.

A funny thing has happened lately. I’ll be somewhere thinking about something I need for the house, and I will suddenly realize that what I was thinking of isn’t for the house, but for the dollhouse.  Is this what happens to those of you who have more than one house? Do you get confused sometimes? I guess the dollhouse has become my second house.

You can see that I added trim around the window. And I have to add baseboards and crown molding but I have yet to order them.

Now, I’m exhausted. Some soup and some hot tea for me.

I often talk of dollshouses as if they were real and my friends now ask to me when they hear me speaking about furniture: “Is it real or mini?” They have often been deluded by my chats.I supose it is normal for us minimaniacs ;o)
    Have a nice day, Rosanna

Hi Claudia, I am so sorry to hear that you are sick. I got one of these colds a month ago and I am still coughing. It hit really fast and hard. Your doll house looks beautiful. I love your wallpaper and you did a beautiful job. Love your windows. Thanks for sharing and I hope you feel better. Hugs, Terri

Claudia, take it easy! You shouldn’t be taxing yourself by hanging wallpaper! Oh…Wait…I guess that wallpapering a dollhouse isn’t quite as taxing as the real thing. Sometimes it is puzzling, but not so taxing. Get well soon. What you’ve done so far looks great!

If I didn’t know better, I would think those are photos of someone’s actual fullsize house! That staircase is a work of art.

It’s just darling! I wish the work on mine was a miniature scale… Wouldn’t cost so much.

I’ve been battling a cold on top of my mystery disease – so I feel for you my friend.

Love the way the house is turning out. Must be soo much fun to do, I want one, but know my limitations right now.

    Feel better soon!

The wall paper is so pretty! You’re making me miss my dollhouse, it’s all packed away, I have no room for it in my teeny, tiny cottage.
I hope you feel better soon!

So sorry you’re under the weather Claudia – hope you feel much better as you read this.

The wallpaper is delightful in that room – what a great job around the window also. This is going so well, your second home will have to be on a Parade of Homes tour!

You know your sweet sis said I could share you because I don’t have one!!!!! So “sis” be well SOON!

Great job, Claudia! It’s always more difficult to wallpaper once the house is constructed.

If you want to keep the cost down, you can purchase small strips of wood at Michaels, Joanns or if you have a hobby shop nearby that sales scale size railroad stuff they have balsa wood and all sorts of things you can use in dollhouses/miniatures.

OR you can cut up some manilla folders and stain/paint them.

    Hey Pretty Lady,

It’s really coming along. Keep an eye out for the next few days on my blog. I will be posting a visit to my local museum where one of my most favorite exhibits (it’s been there since I was a child) are miniature rooms…..almost twenty of them. Just bear with me and the quality of the pictures, as I’m still learning my new camera and I’m not the best photographer anyway. There will be lot’s of glare from glass enclosed rooms.

Anyway, yours is coming along fabulously and I can’t wait to see it further along.

    Hugs,
    Meri

Haha, no I have never been confused about my dolls house and my real house. I do spend a lot of time on my dolls house when I should be spending it on my real one though.

You did a good job on the wallpapering! It looks very nice, it is such a pretty paper.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
