I’ve never seen so many flowers on this particular day lily open at the same time. I happened to walk around the side of the house to this garden bed and what a sight to behold! If only day lilies weren’t day lilies, if you know what I mean. Shouldn’t these beauties be allowed to bloom for a week? Or longer?
Today promises to be sunny and hot, but where will I be? Driving over an hour to the Apple Store to finally take my laptop in. Reminder: the ‘t’ key isn’t working. All this time, I’ve been delaying appointments, either because of the weather or because of my shoulder/neck problems which made me uncomfortable driving. Or because I just wasn’t in the mood. I downloaded photos for the blog via my laptop and then wrote the posts on Don’s laptop. This morning, I downloaded several photos to the blog so I’ll have some available for future posts should I have to leave the laptop for repair – which seems likely. I forget how much I rely on my little computer.
Anyway, this will take up much of the day.
What else is new? I’ve been reading a book on Monet, which I’m enjoying. I’m reading an Elly Griffiths Ruth Galloway mystery. We are watching the Swedish version of Wallander and, let me tell you, it is stunningly good. Far better, in my opinion, than the Branagh version. I really like Kenneth Branagh, but Krister Henriksson, who plays Wallander in the Swedish version is brilliant, beyond brilliant – as is the rest of the cast. Henriksson is Wallander. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
We’ve been watching so much Nordic Noir that I now want to visit Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and Finland. If only…
I’m not hearing quite as much birdsong in the morning, which always makes me sad. I know it happens every year, but oh, how I miss it. There’s still birdsong, but not nearly enough. I did hear a wren this morning, but it’s now clear that our ‘tenants’ aren’t going to have another brood in our little birdhouse. Mama robin, on the other hand, is still on the nest. I watched her yesterday and I think she was feeding at least one baby, but I can’t swear to it.
Okay. Have to go and start getting ready for the trek.
Stay safe.
Happy Tuesday.

I hope your trip goes smoothly and you soon have your laptop working smoothly again. After building their nest up to a double-decker height, our barn swallows seemed unsuccessful in bringing their third clutch to life. We always see at least three and sometimes four clutches result in at least four fledglings and sometimes five. We waited in vain to see the yellow beaks and red maws of the babies appearing over the edge of the nest or any sign babies were being fed. Then, yesterday morning, while having breakfast, I was startled to see five fledglings on the edge of our garage roof. They were doing what the fledglings always do their first day, flying back and forth from the garage roof to the oak tree, as it’s a short flight. And, as is typical, a hawk was already circling high overhead in our miles of Texas sky. I’m so glad that I chose to breakfast in that spot with the drapes open that particular day, as I usually sit looking elsewhere in the yard.
Claudia says
Yay for the appearance of the fledglings!
Thanks, Linda.
Stay safe!

Couldn’t agree more Claudia- Krister IS Wallander. A perfect performance.
I hope you get to visit Scandinavia

It’s nice to have a dream destination, Siobhan!
Stay safe.

Another vote here for Krister in Wallendar! The BBC used to show the series regularly but haven’t done for quite a few years now. I would love to rewatched them. Are you able to see on Netflix?
My grown up Godson lives in Sweden with his Scandinavian wife and their two year child who is already bilingual!
The pace of life and being close to nature seems idyllic.
I would love to visit Scandinavia too, it’s only about two hours in flight time, flight costs are reasonable but the countries are very, very expensive once you get there. Maybe when I retire😀
Happy Tuesday
Claudia says
I watch it on Amazon Prime, Dee Dee.
I never say never, but a trip to Scandinavia seems sort of impossible for us.
Stay safe.

safe travels! may your laptop need only a quick, cheap little fix and no overnight stay.
and may you and don get to scandinavia – and back to paris – sooner than might feel possible right now.
sweden in particular is very high on my list as the land my ancestors came from.
glad you’re enjoying “wallender”. i will try to track down a way to watch it. i’ve read several of henning mankell’s “wallender” books, enjoyed them and appreciated the lack of (much) gruesomeness in his writing.
noticing less birdsong around here, too, and miss it. we are in another stretch of hot, dry weather, which i find exhausting. maybe the birds do, too.
didn’t get to comment yesterday, but want to say your artistry continues to impress me. as examples, not only does this ‘start’ look great, but you keep working on it … and you”ve created an exact copy of the colors of that vase. good work, claudia. please keep going!
happy, safe tuesday to all.

Laptop will be gone for at least a week, unfortunately.
Thanks so much for your kind words, Kathy.

kathy in iowa says
oops … should have spelled it “wallAnder”.
also, whether or not the pbs and/or swedish tv versions can be found, the book versions are highly recommended, .

Kim Napier says
I agree about Wallander.
We are still very strong with birdsong, hummingbirds and butterflies, right now.
I hope your trip goes well today.
Blessings and HUGS,
Kim
Claudia says
We have lots of butterflies and birds and hummingbirds, but the song has decreased a bit.
Stay safe, Kim.

Hope your laptop is an easy fix! Love those pink day lilies! Mine are golden yellow.
Claudia says
Thank you, Ellen!
Stay safe.

We had two beautiful lillies ready to bloom and one whole plant got eaten by the deer. So far they have left the other plant alone. I’m praying it blooms soon. I hope you got your computer fixed. I’ve not felt like doing much for several weeks now. Too much rain and humidity! Ugh!
Claudia says
The weather does make for not feeling great. It really has an impact on my sinuses and allergies and I can see that if effects Don, too.
Almost – and I say almost – make me yearn for fall.
Stay safe, Linda.

I read everything I could reach edited from Henning Mankell. Such a lost, he died too early.
Rolf Lassgård was the first Wallander, and in my eyes the best.
Love the Scandinavian Crime, such as “Beck”. They are very popular and well done.
Love the Islandic “Noir” especially the books of Arnaldur Indriðason. Since the nineties the books and tv series from Scandinavia are growing and still very popular.
Thomas’ brother lives in Sweden near Göteburg with his Swedish wife Agneta. We visited them many many times. We would like to travel to Norway, but much more than this we would go to Island (Iceland) – must be fantastic.
Stay safe

How lucky you are to have visited Sweden!
Yes, I’d also love to go Iceland, Helga.
