Flowers, Reading & Run-Throughs

January 6, 2017 at 9:54 am by Claudia

The afternoon sunlight was casting its glow on the flowers yesterday. Very photo-worthy. The flowers, by the way, that were purchased nearly three weeks ago and are still going strong. Alstroemeria: more bang for your buck, and very little in terms of bucks if you buy them at Trader Joe’s, than any other cut flower I can think of.

I woke up with a very stuffy head this morning. I’m not sure why. It did start to snow overnight, but very little has fallen. At 5:30 am some sort of heavy machinery woke me up (one of the drawbacks when you live downtown) and because I can’t always tell what time it is by the light that enters the apartment, I got up, looked at the clock in the kitchen, and promptly climbed back in bed. It took about an hour, but I finally went back to sleep, whereupon I was jolted from sleep at 8 am by a police siren. Ah, the joys of urban living!

Today is the very last day in the rehearsal room. We had a run-through yesterday and will have another one today. The Bollywood number is simply delightful. I was laughing and clapping and completely under its spell. My friend Peggy is the choreographer and she is simply amazing. So: another run-through today and then everyone and everything moves to the theater. Tomorrow will be what is called a spacing rehearsal, where the director goes through each scene and adjusts the positions of the actors on the set. This set, as do most, has levels – and buildings and doorways and docks and boats…so all of that has to be dealt with. On Sunday, tech will start.

Since I’m not needed tomorrow or even Sunday, I’ll go home tomorrow morning for a couple of days. I’ll return for Tuesday’s rehearsal, which will be a continuation of Sunday’s tech, starting wherever they left off on Sunday.

I’ve reached the halfway point in Believing the Lie.  That means I’m 300 pages in. It’s quite engrossing and I’m most definitely hooked. She’s a very, very good writer. I also pre-ordered (something I never do) the upcoming new release from Deborah Crombie, Garden of Lamentations, which comes out next month. I had a very modest credit with Amazon, so I applied it to the book and I only had to pay half of the hardcover price.

It’s Friday. My head is stuffy. I’m drinking my second cup of coffee. I’m writing to you. Soon, some oatmeal and then a shower, where I’m hoping the steam will clear out my congestion. Fingers crossed.

Happy Friday.

I hope you soon feel better. These winter colds are not fun. I am feeling better but still have a croaky throat. It’s been a bit of a roller coaster. I finished errands yesterday with my Mom so today and the rest of the weekend is staying home. We might have snow and if so the Grands will love it. I’m working a bit more on packing up some things today and then will finish my Karin Slaughter book. Annie is curled up in her warm cat bed, I’m curled up on the couch in my flannel gown. All’s right with my world.
Enjoy your time at home. Hugs!

I don’t think it’s a cold, just sinus crap, but nonetheless, I feel yucky! I’m so glad you’re feeling better. I’m in my flannel PJs at the moment and drinking an extra half-cup of coffee. (I could tell you were reading a Karin Slaughter book by the text you showed on your IG photo!) xo

Yay! I need a couple of days with my husband and, at the very least, the house will need a thorough cleaning! Thanks, Donnamae!

the flowers are lovely; very springtime and remind us it will be coming along…….January always seems drab to me ; but absolutely the perfect time for nesting and reading good books with no gorgeous warm sunny weather beckoning us outside…….have a safe trip and enjoy the comfort of your time with Don as well as dear Mockingbird Hill cottage……Dianne

Those flowers still look amazing! Glad you get to spend a few days at home Claudia. It’s cool in Florida this morning & will be cold enough to run the heat for the next two days, a nice change for us. I’m about to to take the shelves out of the fridge & give it a thorough cleaning. Keeping busy still doing things that only need to be done every now & then.

Wishing you safe travel and hoping that you feel better. We are expecting snow tomorrow. I have books to read and sewing to do. I went to the library yesterday and one of the books that came home was “Believing the Lie”. I am looking forward to reading it.

It’s very good, Trina. Long, but George’s novels are always long. I think that’s part of the pleasure of reading them!

So glad you’ll be heading home for a bit! I’m keeping busy, doodling a few coloring pages of my dogs…past and present. This way, I can keep from taking down the xmas tree for a few more days, otherwise known as keeping busy being lazy.

Those flowers are troopers! So pretty still.

So glad you get a few days with Don. Always does the soul good to get back home ~ even if just for a few days.

I am still working on getting Christmas put away. I used to be able to do this in a day. Now I do a bin or two and then sit down for some coffee or tea… just for a few minutes, of course ~ and soon an hour is gone. I guess that is one of the perks of retirement. But I just hate this mess.

Hope your sinus flare up goes away for your weekend at home. Have a lovely rest of your day and a good time away. Travel safely.

There’s no rush, of course, so take your time. Do it on your own schedule. But you, like me, like to get it all put away asap and that’s frustrating! Thanks, Chris.

Safe travels returning home. I know you’ll enjoy your days off. It’s clear blue skies today, but a huge rain storm is brewing and Northern California is preparing for flooding and other rain-related disasters. Apparently, the storm that will hit this weekend is the one every 10-25 years that will bring massive amounts of water in very little time.

I hope that it doesn’t flood too much and that mud-slides aren’t a consequence of the rain. Hang in there, Wendy!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
