We made a quick stop at Trader Joe’s on our way back from Pennsylvania. Don wanted to grab a few things and I jumped at the chance to buy some inexpensive flowers.
It’s been a very tiring week. Very. Lots going on. I’m really looking forward to kicking back a bit. Though I do have to grab a few rain-free hours this morning to do some mowing. It rained yesterday and was incredibly humid. It’s going to rain and storm this afternoon, tomorrow, and Sunday – due, in part, to the hurricane moving up the east coast. Oh, joy. Another hurricane.
Anyway, I’m tired. Don is tired. We just need to hang out for a couple of days and I guess that’s guaranteed given the weather headed our way.
I didn’t do anything more with the Beacon Hill yesterday. Still trying to fix some things or at least, figure out how to fix them. I’ve looked at a lot of other finished Beacon Hills and realize that the foundation under the bay windows and kitchen windows is missing. So I’ve downloaded the instructions and I’m going to try to figure out the directions for those areas of the house and see if I can duplicate them with some wood or board. Then there’s the porch, which is glued in so well that I’m afraid I’ll break something if I try to take it apart. That’s something I’ll start to address this weekend. And I just might go to Lowe’s and buy some primer. Slapping on some paint will be very therapeutic.
How can it be almost the end of August? I swear, time moves so quickly!
Stay safe.
Happy Friday.

Pretty flowers. I wish we had a Trader Joe’s near us.
This has been a very strange summer for me. When my granddaughter got so sick in June it felt like the longest days and would never end. Plus, the gypsy moth plague didn’t end until middle of July. The good part of the summer since then is just whizzing by. We have one week until school starts. We will miss our revolving door of granddaughters coming and going, but at the same time we are ready for some peace and quiet.
I studied that porch a bit on your IG video and I wondered whether it would be a problem to take it apart. I know you are detail oriented like me and it will bother you if you can’t fix it. I’m sure you can do something to make it less noticeable, at least.
Stay safe

We don’t have a Trader Joe’s near us. This is about an hour and a half from our house. But we passed it on our way home, so we stopped.
You’ve had a very hard summer, Marilyn. I think Fall might be a refreshing change for you.
Stay safe.
Melanie Gratton says
Could you loosen the glue with a hair dryer, to work on the porch?
Claudia says
Most likely, but I have to research what parts of the posts and the roof are separate.
Thanks, Melanie.
Stay safe!

Fresh flowers always lift a mood. I think slapping on some primer would be very satisfying! I have been watching the next storm head your way. We had so many days of rain and humidity but now more sunshine and high temps. No break this time of year. Rest up!
Claudia says
Dreading the storm, though it looks like it will be the strongest on the coast.
Stay safe, Linda.
Vicki says
Yep, summer is almost gone. I still record stuff on the TV for viewing soon, and I’m now setting it up for September shows.
Well, tried to get bottled water at our big-box store yesterday and they were completely sold out. (And it’s usually a BIG/continually-stocked section in the store because of summer vacationers needing it, and of course we always, any of us, stock water for earthquakes [preparedness].) The scuttle is that we’re back to 2020 and hoarding again of water, toilet paper, etc. Here, in SoCalif, it ain’t because of a hurricane. So, we went to another town and a diff store for our grocery curbside pickup. (Our drinking water in our own town has a terrible taste due to ‘hardness’ and mega mineral deposits; I’ve never been able to stand drinking it; hence, the need for bottled water although what we really need to do is invest in a filtered-water system. I never feel bottled water is a good idea although of course we recycle the plastic.)
All best wishes and good thoughts for safety in the bad weather ahead; was just reading about the hurricane and New England bracing for it. It’s good you and Don are home now and can settle in, stay in; don’t have to be out in it. Errands done; stocked up. You need the R&R anyway. Be sure to park that Pilot well away from trees!
Claudia says
We are surrounded by trees. There is no way to park our cars away from trees, as is the case for most people around here.
We have some of the hardest water in the country but it tastes surprisingly good!
Stay safe, Vicki!

The weather surely dictates a gardener’s chore list. As well as everyone’s outside activities. We’ve had maybe five days without forestfire smoke in the last five weeks. We are missing out on so many summer traditions, but that is nothing in comparison to the challenges facing firefighters and animals and trees. This may be one year I actually look forward to autumn.
I gotta admit that the Beacon Hill is too yellow even for me! At first I thought it was mostlythe contrast with the vibrant green, but no….it’s the yellow. The contrast between it and the rest of the tones in your workplace! Priming it will be a relief and give you a fresh canvas to work with. It really is a lovely piece and was well-worth the drive. It will be fun to see its transformation.
Stay safe and healthy.
Claudia says
I have to say that I’m looking forward to Autumn now, too. August has been a difficult month, weather-wise.
Thanks so much, Roxie.
Stay safe.

good to hear you are stocked up and can take it easy (after the mowing is done), especially with a storm on the way.

Claudia says
We aren’t stocked up yet. That will come this morning.
Stay safe, Kathy!
Deb in Phoenix says
You and Don deserve some good rest!! Bill and I are doing the same thing this weekend
…….just relaxing!! Love the flowers!!
Claudia says
We have no choice! Hurricane Henri is headed our way and we’ll be staying inside.
Stay safe, Deb.
jeanie says
One day at a time. Prepping for Henri is more important. The Beacon Hill can wait a few days.
Claudia says
The Beacon Hill is the best thing to work on during all of this, so I’m getting some primer from our local hardware store this morning!
Stay safe, Jeanie.
Regula says
Today it seems summer might stay a little bit longer. However, days are getting shorter and I have to get up in the dark. Hopefully, the storm won’t be to strong, the rain not too heavy.
Happy mowing!
Regula
Claudia says
I’ve really noticed the shortening of daylight this week, Regula.
Stay safe!
