We went on a Target run yesterday morning (more throw rugs for Scout, food, etc.) with a stop along the way at Five Guys.
I know. Greasy french fries. Wonderfully greasy. I can’t help it. They’re the best fries in my little world. Lunch consisted of an order of fries, some root beer, and when I got home, a couple of slices of cheese for protein.
Anyway, we checked the mailbox on the way up the driveway and, lo and behold, there was a big white envelope from a certain magazine.
Just to prepare you, my hair was a mess and I had no makeup on. Sadly, this is often the case around here, whether I’ve been running errands or not.
There it is!
And there’s the article. In print! And it’s 7 pages long, not 6. I miscounted!
Don, always my biggest supporter, kept saying how proud he was of me. All day long. He’s a gem.
I purchased five copies. One to cut up and frame. One to take down to Florida to show my dad and sister when I visit. Three to save.
I’m dead chuffed, as they say on the other side of the pond. Translation: I’m very pleased, indeed.
Does this make me an American Miniaturist? If so, I’m thrilled!
Garden news: the Rudbeckia/Brown-Eyed Susan I planted down in the far right corner of the big garden bed self-seeded and I have two new (and big) plants that have been rather conveniently situated in what was previously a bare patch.
Lucky me!
I love these incredibly cheery flowers.
This one looks like it’s raising its petals to the sun. Or perhaps it’s performing an interpretive dance?
It’s a rainy day here. Reading, cleaning, and some mini work are on the docket. I hope your Saturday is a splendid one.
Happy Saturday.
Congratulations Claudia, the article looks great. I will look for the magazine. Doris
Thank you, Doris! I hope you find a copy and that you enjoy reading the article.
How exciting! I think I would have been jumping up and down.
Well, I did let out a big “Whoo hoo!” when I saw the package in the mailbox!
How thrilling to have an actual copy to hold!
We don’t get all the American hobby magazines here and I haven’t yet seen American Miniaturist for sale at our newsagents. :( Will you be able to share some more pictures in August? Again, well done! :)
Hopefully, I can sneak in some shots of the article, Barbara. I’ll give it a try. But I think, to be fair to the publishers, I’ll have to do it later in the month. Thank you!
Congratulations, Claudia!! Well deserved, I am sure.
Thank you, Tana!
Congrats, Claudia! I’m so excited for you!
Thank you so much, Karen!
I’m hoping to find this magazine later at the book shop – want to read the article and see the photos up close – it looks awesome dear.
Congratulations!
Mary x
I don’t know if you’ll find it at the bookshop, Mary. Maybe. It’s hard to find on the newsstands. Thanks for your kind words!
Congratulations! Your creativity documented and in print! Well, that may be a strange way to put it, but I’m so very happy for you! Well done!
Thank you very much, Kathy!
Congratulations!
It’s raining here too. I had to do my walk on the treadmill this morning.
I’m going to get the cleaning out of the way so I can spend the rainy afternoon reading.
Sounds like the perfect way to spend your afternoon, Kathy! Enjoy.
It’s so wonderful that you’ve been featured in the magazine. I’m so happy for you!
Thank you so much, Cindy!
How wonderful! Your dollhouse is always so lovely and inspiring…I can see why they wanted to feature it! Congratulations!
Thank you, Linda. I’m honored they would want to feature it. Thrilled, really!
I’m so excited to see you holding the magazine!! So proud of you and the hard work and creativity you’ve put into Hummingbird Cottage. I will see if I spot the magazine but it looks like it’s hard to find. I understand and think you are right to wait to show us the articles up close on the blog! Just so darn happy for you. The garden is glowing this year. Enjoy your day.
hugs,
Linda
Thank you so much, dear friend! The support of you and all my readers has meant so much to me! It’s given me positive feedback when I needed it and helped me to keep on track.
Well of course you’re an American Miniaturist with every right in the world to be Chuffed! Well done you!
Thank you, Margaret! Okay. I’m a miniaturist. I’m owning it.
Exciting news, indeed. It’s one thing to know about the article being published in a magazine…but to actually hold it in your hands…you must be beyond thrilled! Enjoy! ;)
I am, Donnamae! It’s very exciting!
Congratulations! Enjoy your rainy day. The rains have finally stopped and now it is wicked hot and we’re under a heat advisory. I got some outdoor tasks done early this morning and plan to work on some sewing later today. Enjoy your weekend!
Oh yuck to heat advisories! Stay inside and stay cool. Thanks, Debbie!
Holy Cow!!!!! What wonderful news. holy..holy, holy cow. So exciting!!!I am so happy for you, what a honor for you, (and for me) to know you, the American Miniaturist. I always loved seeing every post where your doll house was featured, and always had to check out every little detail. And, now to have it in print, is so exciting. You can bet, I will be checking out “Book World” a store here that may just have the magazine. If not, I’ll be in St. Paul, MN, in a couple of weeks, and probably can get it there at Barnes and Noble. CONGRATULATIONS
If you have a dollhouse or hobby shop nearby, they would most likely carry it, Bonnie. Not sure about bookstores – they used to carry it – and maybe some still do. Thank you!
Oh, many congratulations! It’s fabulous! And I can’t wait to see the article and photos!
Because I’ve always loved to read and books have made such a difference in my life, all my life, i have the dream like how many other zillions of people to pen The Great American Novel and have that first book placed in my hand…a real book, with boards and paper…adding my name to the list of ‘published writers.’ The only thing I’ve ever pulled off…well, of course, one needs to try harder at these things and not treat it as a hobby either…was to write a piece for a pharmaceutical company running a contest who actually manufactures medications for pets and, well, out of 12,000 entries where they chose 12, I was one picked for a month of a calendar and I did get a small cash prize. This was a long, long time ago. Curious reaction on my part to winning and seeing my name in print…a mix of pride and feeling bashful about it. For you, this is a MUCH bigger deal and I join other readers in high praise for your accomplishment. That’s a lot of pages!
Feel proud. Strut your stuff today! And start on YOUR novel!
Do you know how lucky you are to have such a supportive partner who’s verbal, who emotes and is demonstrative? Don seems to always want to lift you up to even higher heights. Bask in that, Claudia! What a warm and lovely relationship!
Oh, I have the same mixture – pride and bashful. I understand completely! For example, I probably wouldn’t tell someone local but I don’t mind at all sharing it on the blog.
And the novel? Haven’t started it yet and Don is always asking me when I’m going to start it.
I know how lucky I am, believe me! Thanks, Vicki!
How wonderful! Congratulations!
Thank you, Ann!
congrats again on the article
Never doubt that you are a true American miniaturist :) I sometimes think you don’t realize how far your talents go . Carolines house is a true magical work of art. It is an amazing place. We all want to go there and visit (well, I wouldn’t mind living there lol) so you know how special it is. A lovely mix of beauty and cozy.
again thanks for sharing
I’m rather shy about these things, but every once in a while, I allow myself a “I’m proud of this” moment.
Thank you, Sue. xo
Congratulations Claudia, beautifully detailed dollhouse & article! I just couldn’t wait to see every page so I went pocketmags and looked through the digitized copy. Wonderful!
I LOVE your dollhouse & I might be inspired to do more than the little vignettes I do in my china hutch. I am simply amazed by the refrigerator, the roof garden, ok all of it!! Terrific job Claudia.
I think the pictures look even better online, Marcy Ray, so you got a good view of the article. Thanks so much for all your kind words.
Congratulations on being published! Is the rooftop patio included? If not I’m sure they will want to revisit Caroline’s lovely home! I too wish I could miniaturize myself and live there. You have great style!
No, I just did the rooftop patio this week, so it wasn’t included in the photos, though I did make a reference to it in the article, saying it was my next project. Thanks, Barbara!
I’m dead chuffed for you too. What a thrill. You must be so ‘made up’ Yet another English expression, although not from my part of England . lol. Blessings
Oooh! “Made up” – I like it – a new phrase. Does it mean happy, proud, that sort of thing? Thanks so much for the kind words, Lesley.
Great, great news! I’m guessing that ‘American Miniaturist’ is the ‘Architectural Digest’ of the mini-world. Congratulations on your not-at-all “small” accomplishment, and for being recognized for your skill – it’s always satisfying to be praised for good work. You deserve to puff up a little – Caroline chose well when she picked you as architect, designer and builder. Enjoy your weekend too!
Will you pass that thought on to Caroline, Janet? Sometimes I think she doesn’t appreciate me enough!
Thanks so much.
French fries, mag article and flowers….what a great day!
Very good day, Wendy, very good day!
Congratulations Claudia on ‘being published’. Happy Dance time.
Thank you so much, Joy! Happy Dance indeed!
Wow your article sure came out fast! Congrats you deserve it :)
There was an opening and they slotted me in right away! Don’t you wish all magazine articles came out this quickly?
Wow! A Trifecta for your day!! Some greasy fries (yumm!), a surprise bevy of flowers found, AND copies of your magazine article! Just WOW! Couldn’t dream up such a fine day!
I bet Caroline would LOVE a copy for her coffee table. For her it must be like having your home photographed for Architectural Digest….. or House Beautiful…. or Country Living!!!!!
I hope you are enjoying every single moment!! :-)
What a good idea, Chris. I shall have to make a miniature version of the magazine! I know Caroline would love a copy. As it is, she’s had to read my giant-sized copy and it’s very hard on her eyes! Thanks so much for the good wishes!
O, Claudia, what a wonderful accomplishment. You inspire the rest of us….to do….Something. Whatever our something might be. I do hope you will celebrate in some sweet summer way….watermelon and tea on special dishes while listening to all of nature celebrating around you.
And, Yes, you are so fortunate to have that very valuable spouse to give you such verbal support.
Though, I would imagine you are very supportive of him as well.
And, by the way, I am enjoying your other blog and have read some good books as a result.
Have a wonderful weekend.
I celebrated by working on some minis today, Joan. Seems appropriate!
I’m so happy to hear you’re enjoying the other blog and that you’ve found some good books because of it. Yay!
Congratulations! I am going to look for the magazine today. A great reward for a great talent.
It likely will be easier to find it in a miniature/dollhouse shop or a hobby shop, Dottie. Thanks for the congratulations!
Congratulations to my friend Claudia the American Miniaturist…this is well deserved after all the work you have done to restore Hummingbird Cottage..I know what condition it was in when you got it…Is this issue out in the stores…I will call some places to see if they carry it..Hugs..
Someone mentioned reading it online at pocketmags. It’s hard to find in bookstores, but is usually carried in miniature shops and hobby shops. That’s why I thought I’d mention pocketmags. A couple of people have read the article that way.
Thanks so much for the good wishes, Nancy!
Congratulations!
Thank you, Cindy!
Well done!!!!
Hugs,
Mere
Thank you, sister. Love you.
I’m so proud for you. Being featured in a specialty magazine is such a recognition.
As for the makeup. Sadly that is a most days occurrence around here.
Good to know there are others like me out there, Barbara!
Thank you for the good wishes!
Forget about make-up, you’re FEATURED IN A MAGAZINE! Can’t wait to get my copy – guess I better run down to my mailbox.
Thanks so much, Debbie!
Exciting!!
It is!
WoW! Congratulations! I’m so excited for you! And I have been watching and enjoying your miniature mansion progress over the last few years and have silently cheered with each tweak! I’m gonna look for the mag this week to show a couple friends I’ve told about your miniature adventure!
Thank you, Kelly!
Congratulations Claudia! You can be proud of yourself!
Thank you, Carolyn Marie!
Congratulations! :-)
Thank you, Regula!
Fantastic Claudia!!! That really is so very exciting for you and for Caroline of course!!! You should be really thrilled and I am sure that you are!!!! xx
I am! Thank you, Amy!
Oh wouldn’t it be cool if you had a mini copy to put in the house for Caroline! Congrats
Hugs!!
I’ll be making one someday soon, Nancy. Thank you!
Claudia! You’re just too cute!
I’m happy for your magazine layout! Cut up and frame you say?! Where will they all go?? Line the stair wall? In the studio? Den? I can’t wait to see where you put your framed pages!
Travels to Florida sound fun… Will this be a family trip?
I feel like I’ve missed something. I must go back and read! Have a happy day… Now Sunday!
Probably in the studio – that’s where I’ve framed the other press I’ve received. But, I’m not sure!
I haven’t mentioned FL because the plans aren’t firmed up yet. No, not a family trip. One of us has to stay here with Scout. I would be going down to see my dad, sister and her family and finally meet my newest nephew, Little Z!
