The bee balm is beginning to bloom.
I went outside to take a few pictures yesterday. The humidity was terrible and I felt lethargic so a fresh perspective was in order. After not doing a whole lot for many years, the rose bush in front of the house has taken off like wildfire this year. I’m rather stunned every time I look at it. Gardens and flowers are a mystery when it comes down to it. Some plants always do well. Others disappear from season to season. This rose bush, which I have considered removing in the past, is suddenly huge!
Go figure.
My brain is like mush in this very humid weather. I’ve always had a problem with high humidity, not to mention my allergies going haywire, as well. If you’re allergic to mold and mildew as I am, excess humidity is not your friend.
I saw two of the baby groundhogs yesterday, one of them Buddy. And the rabbit. And a baby bunny this morning.
We’re due for thunderstorms today. It’s in the forecast every day this week. We’ll get rain, which is good, but this particular weather pattern is hanging over us and won’t budge.
So don’t expect profound writing here on the blog. My brain is incapable of it.
Little Z is not so little anymore. He’s 12 and his voice is changing. How did that happen? He’s looking so grown up lately. I think I’ll have to call him “Z” from now on. I’ve never had kids, but I imagine that particular change – of voice – has to be a bit sad for Moms (and Dads). It’s evidence your child is no longer a little kid. And when it’s your last child, as with Mere, it has to be particularly bittersweet.
Okay. I’m already sweating.
Stay safe.
Happy Monday.

hope you get to feeling better soon!
and that you get enough rain to water everything in need, to wash the air of pollen and to break the heat and humidity at least for a while .. but not so much rain that it causes problems. as much as i love rain (it’s my favorite weather), i know everything and everyone benefits from some sunshine, too.
that bee balm is sure pretty. glad your rose bush is doing so well, too. and that you could see some animals, especially the babies.
same feelings here about the march of time … bittersweet is a good word for it. need to take care of the bitter, but i keep trying to focus on the sweet.
though the ride up north took longer than what we went there for, we had a nice (paddle)boat ride on friday. easy to do and we plan to go again next month. :)
hope you, don and everyone else are comfortable, safe and have a good day.

Yes, I’m having a bit of a hard time focusing on the sweet, but I will, eventually.
Stay safe, Kathy.

This humidity has me feeling so sluggish. I also know how a 12 year old suddenly seems so grown up. My Tiger is 12 and oh my not my baby grandson any longer. He is such a sweet and smart kid and I do enjoy his company. I’m lucky he still enjoys time with his Grandma even at 12. Rest up its a long summer.
Claudia says
Unbelievably sluggish!
Stay safe, Linda.

Beautiful photograph, such a pretty flower!
Claudia says
Thank you, Lynda!
Stay safe.

Kids grow up so fast, don’t they? Z will always be Little Buddy to me no matter his age. We’ve had the same weather here, too. Toronto is voting for a new mayor. We voted at the advance poll so, thankfully, don’t have to go out today. Still so humid. Take gentle care. Hugs, Elaine
Claudia says
We have a local election in our town tomorrow. I don’t like our ‘supervisor’ which is the equivalent of mayor here. She’ll probably win again, but we’re voting for her opponent.
Stay safe, Elaine.

dear Claudia/Don — glad Don enjoyed his special day. love the pix of blooming beebalm, no bees on it?? we have only one gson, altho, it was bittersweet for me when he began maturing never had a son so wasn’t used to those changes seemed like over nite — his sisters really gave him a hard time when his voice was changing. He now is almost 20 which is totally impossible for me to comprehend but he IS the best young man and makes us really proud. am sure your nephew is destined to do great things. hope you feel better soon. stay safe
Claudia says
It happened on Mother’s Day, according to my sister.
Stay safe.

Oh yes, kids grow up so fast. Hard to believe little Z is 12 already. I remember when he as adopted. Your sister is a remarkable woman.
It has been raining here too. We needed it but we have another bad year of gypsy moths. Actually, the name has been changed to spongy moth…so no gypsies are offended I guess. Anyway, they are up in the tree canopy munching away on the leaves. They prefer oaks but will eat other leaves also. So right now there are leaf shreds falling and caterpillar poop dropping on our deck. I sweep it or hose it off a couple times a day. It looks like someone spilled peppercorns all over. When it rains they get soft and it’s just a mess…so gross. They should turn into moths in 2 or 3 weeks. I can’t wait. It’s hard to be outside and we wear hats and check each other when we come in to make sure there are no caterpillars on us. They drop out of the trees sometimes. I’m sure this is more than anyone wants to know about spongy moths.
I don’t do well in humid weather either. Hope you feel better.
Take care
Claudia says
So sorry you have to cope with that, Marilyn!
Stay safe.

We have been seeing rabbits in our front yard lately. We are in a very city like area and have many cars driving past. But the bunnies show up to eat the grass and nibble on our heathers etc. Nice to see, but they notice movement at the window and leave. My daughter who is severely retarded loves to spend time looking out the window but I don’t know if she really notices the bunnies. She is nonverbal so can’t say.
Claudia says
I hope she does notice them, Jan! I can only imagine that seeing the bunnies would bring her pleasure.
I hope they bring you pleasure, too. I know that caring for your daughter is a full-time job for you. Bless you.
Stay safe.

Plants are unpredictable. Maybe thatβs why they are interesting and surprise us. I hope you get a break in the humidity soon. I have gotten used to sweating an enjoy some humidity but it can be oppressive.
It seems like the northeast is more humid than it used to be.
I enjoy your flower photos.
Claudia says
I don’t know if it’s more humid. Seems about the same to me. I remember lots of humidity in Michigan – especially in August, right about the time I was performing in summer musicals in a big tent!
Stay safe, Kay.
Kay in SE WI says
We had an extremely wet (and humid) early spring here. I’m thinking that may be one reason our climbing rose on the south side of the house has grown higher and is holding more blooms than it has in all the many years we’ve had it. It is just beautiful with so many roses I can’t even count them all.
I can imagine with your allergies that humidity is awfully hard to deal with. We’re also dealing with awful air quality from the fires in Canada. I hate being forced to be housebound in the summer when winter lasts so long.
Take care and feel better soon,
Kay
Claudia says
I’m sorry you’re feeling the fallout from the fires in Canada, Kay. We sure didn’t like it when we were stuck inside, either. I hope it gets better for you soon.
Stay safe.

Our air quality here is 282 today and so hazy visibility is terrible. I can even smell the smoke. This must be a bad one.
But we did get rain yesterday and so sorely needed. It beat down my newly transplanted basil but I think it is reviving. Things are looking much greener and the birds are pigging out at the feeder. I worry about them after I leave for the lake Friday.
Claudia says
Can a neighbor fill the feeders, Jeanie?
Stay safe.
