I have to be honest here. Sometimes I can’t remember whether I’ve already used a photo in another post. I suspect I might have posted these two photos of the living room recently. But I’m not in the mood to look back through my posts, so here they are again because that’s all I’ve got for you today!

Some days I just forget to take pictures and yesterday was one of them. I’ll do better today.

We had a nice time with our pals yesterday and then Don took off to do his thing and I took off to do mine. Nothing momentous.

We’ve been waking up at 5 or 5:30 every morning for the longest time! Too early! I seem to have moved from a routine 7 hours of sleep to 6 or 6½. I have no idea why. It’s not ideal, that’s for sure, because I always feel like I didn’t get quite enough sleep. Sleep patterns are fascinating. What makes them change? What throws us off?

We watched Network  the other night. It was on TCM On Demand. I hadn’t seen it since it first came out in 1976. Let me tell you, I was stunned by how prescient screenwriter Paddy Chayefsky was about media, news as entertainment and reality television. He saw it all way back then. I kept gasping as I listened, immediately looking at Don for confirmation of what I’d just heard. It’s stunning, really. Peter Finch has a big speech – several really – that just blew me away. The movie is a satire, but the satire has come true.

If you can, watch it again. 42 years later, it has come true. And that’s not a good thing.

Happy Monday.

when i saw the top photo, my first thought was, “oh, good … they have sunshine instead of more rain!” … then i read (and can relate to) your first paragraph. sure looks pretty, though! hope you get that sunshine and more sleep again soon.

glad (and of course) you had fun with friends.

i appreciate more and more the days when “nothing momentous” happens!

will add that movie to the list of things to watch and read. thanks for sharing all that you do!

happy monday to you and don, to everyone!

We’re getting a little sunshine right now, Kathy. There may be rain later today – I hope not! – but right now, the sun has finally shown its face.

      Thanks, Kathy!

It is cloudy here this morning and I think we are in for more rain. Sara and the Grands came over for dinner last night and it was a good visit. Like a whirlwind with the kids but so fun. Today is chores and some errands I think. Nothing much going on. Hugs!

Cloudy here as well! The sun has been out off and on but I see storm clouds on the horizon.

Your mention of Network brought up a myriad of emotions…it was the film my late husband and I watched on our first official date…from that evening on, we were inseparable until he died. The memory is a happy one and though I will always miss him terribly, memories don’t hurt as much as they used to.

Ah. That is a happy and bittersweet memory, Wendy. Thinking of you always, as you navigate life without him by your side.

This entire “thing” we watch unfolding daily is a horriffic reality show. The actors are cheap and tawdry. It is a joke.

While watching the piece of Aretha Franklin at the Kennedy Awards (I think it was) and Carole King watching was so wonderful ~~ but the part that was like a lightening bolt to me was watching President and Mrs. Obama in that moment. I cried for all we have lost and have had to endure. It is a travesty.

I know. I miss them so. I cannot imagine what they’re thinking about this. Well, I can imagine. It must be heartbreaking for them on every level.

Completely agree about “Network.” Wonderful movie. And of course, in today’s context – incredibly prescient. But I keep remembering one of the things that Jon Meacham’s new book says – that I even thought myself before reading it there. Jon says that the Founders would be absolutely dumbfounded that it took 240+ years for a Trump-like figure to appear. They expected it LONG before now. Hence the Constitution they left us. Now we just have to make sure it all works the way it’s designed to. DISSENT – BE INFORMED – RESIST – VOTE. There’s absolutely no excuse for anything else. Peace .🇺🇸

Such a good point, Janet. Thank you for sharing it. We’ve been spoiled, I guess, never having to deal with someone like Trump before.

We have to do everything we can to get people to vote.

So right. And I highly recommend the Meacham book – “The Soul of Americ – The Battle for Our Better Angels.” ANY of his books actually. Though he’s done a lot of recent panels & talks which are viewable on YouTube etc as well. Every so often I actually prefer these talks – Jon Meacham is very witty & a lot more humor shines through during a video, for one thing. Plus it’s faster than waiting for it at the library. Sometimes I read the book a year or two AFTER seeing the video talks.

that rudy guiliani said yesterday (i think i have the words pretty close) his “client won’t be rushed into perjury” …

what?! one need not worry about perjury if one tells the truth all the time!

but then, per guiliani, “truth isn’t truth”.

      argh!

(said as someone who doesn’t have the greatest public speaking skills and thankfully doesn’t have that much pressure from my own job), i am hoping trump keeps guiliani as his lawyer …

          ugh!!!

          thanks, tammy j.

and no “thanks” to trump and his cronies.

It is the point of summer where now all I want to do is savor every moment of it as it begins the end. Make hay while the sun shines! I figure winter is for sleeping.

I remember Network as a thought provoking movie. Who knew it was previewing our future. I have been using movies as an escape of late…because, quite frankly, we have been living in a horrid reality show! And you know…the truth isn’t really the truth now is it? What kind of fresh bull is that??

Glad to hear you are getting some relief in the form of sunshine. None here for us…more rain. But….this week it’s predicted to be in the 70’s. So, I’ll be a happy camper… politics aside! ;)

I don’t mind at all if you show pictures of your living room again Claudia…I feel relaxed just looking at it!…How good it must be to have your friends close by to laugh and share a meal with before going off to work on things…it must brighten your day and put you in such a good mood!…Isn’t Network the movie where everyone starts tossing their TV’s out their windows?…seams like a great idea these days…lol!

I don’t think they toss their tvs out the window, but they do open their windows, lean out and yell “I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore!!”

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
