Monday Morning

July 26, 2021 at 9:38 am by Claudia

These thistles grow wild on the property. This one happens to be right on the edge of the chicken wire fence garden. Normally, I would yank a thorny plant, but I know the blooms are lovely, so it stayed.

We stayed up too late watching the Olympics, simply because I think the men’s 4×100 freestyle relay is the most exciting event of the Olympics. It was worth it. But, we’re thrown off the next day. I slept in a bit, but Don didn’t. So we’re just going to have to watch video of some of the events the next day, instead of in primetime. I know we can watch some events live during the early morning hours, but we don’t like having the television on during the day. There was a time when I flipped on the television first thing every day, watching the Today Show or some other news program. In fact, I did that for most of my life, but now, as I get older, I crave quiet. Blessed quiet.

Mama continues to do everything for those babies. One of the babies was popping up yesterday and I noticed his head now has darker feathers, which means they’re really developing and growing. I expect to see them fledge soon – maybe 6 more days? I sure hope  we see them fledge! I’d hate to miss it.

I have yet to start a new painting – for some reason, I haven’t been in the mood. I’ve also been thinking a lot about finally finishing the dollhouse, which I’ve neglected a lot lately. I have a piece of furniture to paint, the bed to dress, a rug or two to add, lighting to address in the living room, bedroom, and studio, and little details to add here and there. I’m going to make a list today of just what needs to be done.

Okay my friends.

Stay safe.

Happy Monday.

I love watching the Olympic events but can’t seem to get it working for my schedule. Like you I don’t like the tv on during the day. I crave my quiet. Age thing? I hope you work on the doll house I always enjoy seeing your progress.

I think it’s an age thing for me. Noisy was fine when I was younger. But not at all fine now!

      Stay safe, Linda.

It sounds like Mama Robin’s job is almost done. I hope you get to see the young’ins fledge too.

In our neighborhood we have 5-6 pairs of Sandhill Cranes that come each spring to spend their summers. (They winter in Texas I believe.) Anywho, it appears that not one of the pairs has been able to raise any young ones. Some eggs have not developed, others stolen, grrrrr, or they have been killed by predators. The neighborhood was all a buzz earlier on our neighborhood chat, trying to figure out if it’s all the heat and humidity, or something else. For now, it remains a mystery. It is very sad.

The dollhouse. You haven’t mentioned that in awhile. Whatever will you do? Enquiring minds need to know. Lol! Enjoy your day!

I’m sorry to hear about the cranes, Donna. It probably is a combination of things and very sad, indeed.

I have to do a lot of ‘finishing’ details on the house. I made a list yesterday.

      Stay safe!

I’m so very sorry to hear about your cat, Linda. It doesn’t matter how many years our babies have been with us, the heart breaks, nonetheless. Sending you a big hug. Friday will always be with you.

      Stay safe.

i would leave that pretty thistle there, too.

not watching the olympics or much of anything lately. trying to work on projects, a lot of which are gifts. like you, i have many creative interests (writing, knitting, painting, sewing and counted cross-stitch) and some get set aside because i’m all excited to start or finish something else. someone once suggested i use available time on mondays for one thing, do something else on tuesdays, etc. i’ve not done that … have to be in the mood or up against a deadline to work on something and i just don’t want to feel regimented about creative, enjoyable things.

anyway … good luck with the painting, the dollhouses, photography … :)

and best wishes for the robin family. hope you get to see the babies first flights!

stay safe and cool and have a nice night.

I hope we get to see them fledge, too, though we’ve missed out on the flights of all the other babies born on the property this year. Fingers crossed.

      Stay safe, Kathy.

Hi Claudia, I’m happy you left the thistle there. Gold Finches eat the seeds and use the fuzzy white parts for their nests. Mother Nature and I say thank you. Best regards, Lisa

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
