More Cottages (Including My Favorite)

June 26, 2015 at 8:38 am by Claudia

Don loved all your birthday messages! I don’t know if you saw it, but he left a comment on the post thanking all of you. (By the way, Don and Little Z, our nephew, share the same birthday.) Gosh, it was hard being apart on his birthday! I had a major case of the homesick blues that carried over into yesterday. But today is sunny, I have the morning off, then it’s our first run-through of the play which will be exciting. We move onstage on Monday.

More Chautauqua cottages for you today.

6-26 chcottage1

Two porches, a farmhouse look, board and batten – and wonderful colors of paint on the window and door trim

6-26 chcottage2

A bigger cottage with shingles that remind me of those on cottages along the Atlantic Ocean. Love the purple and lime green paint combination.

6-26 chcottage3

This cottage is right down by the lake. I understand why they chose bigger windows on the first floor with the view they’ve got, but I don’t think they work. The top half looks like it belongs to one house and the bottom looks like it belongs to an entirely different house. But I love the railing on the second floor and the trim underneath it.

6-26 chcottage4

Sigh. So charming with deep porches and simple gingerbread details. White wicker furniture and a fan for those sultry days near the lake.

6-26 chcottage5

This is heavily canopied by trees, so it was a bit difficult to get a good picture. Great gingerbread detail along the roof line, fabulous screen door, and a neat color combination of gray and pink.

Are you ready for my favorite cottage in Chautauqua? It’s been the winner for two years in a row. This one has a huge tree in front of it, so I have to take a photo of it at an angle.

Drum roll.

6-26 chfavoritecottage

Oh my goodness.

What’s not to love about this cottage (that should be mine)?

First of all – pale pink. White trim. (I might add that this pink is almost the same shade of pink that I use on Just Let Me Finish This Page. Again – it should be mine.)

Absolutely amazing detail on the porch railings. Gingerbread detail on the cornices. Board and batten. A splendid screen door.

And then your eye travels up to the roof line and there is even more wonderful detail. This cottage  is my dream cottage.

It’s quite deep, by the way. You can’t tell from this photo but the cottage extends far back into the lot.

Wouldn’t this make the perfect dollhouse?

You’d better believe I’m thinking about it….it might be time for another dollhouse.

New post up on Just Let Me Finish This Page. It’s about time!

Happy Friday.

    The cottages are enchanting.
Your favourite would lend itself very well to a miniature build. :)

It seems like another world there, and one I could really have fun visiting. There is a much smaller version here in Northport, Maine where the cottages are dreamy. Enjoy, Claudia!

Oh I want to curl up on one of those porches (any of them!) with a light blanket, a book, a pillow…I’m thinking those porches were made for dreaming, reading, napping. Hope you have a wonderful weekend Claudia.

When I first saw your favorite one…I immediately thought dollhouse…so cute! They are all lovely…each in their own way. But, I totally agree with you on that white one…the top half doesn’t go with the bottom half! So fun to see these cottages! ;)

Such a weird choice on that white house – which would be stunning with both halves the same!

Definitely with you on that white cottage. The top half looks like it was dropped on top of the bottom half by accident. Modern on bottom, traditional on top. However, I think my own favorite today is the purple awning cottage – gorgeous and as you said, very Atlantic-shore looking. Have a great weekend!

It is so much fun to follow along on your adventures, Claudia. It feels like a mini-vacation from the routine of responsibilities. Thank you for letting us enjoy your walks. I think that Chautauqua is what Disney wishes their Main Street could look like.

Beautiful photography, as always. Your favorite cottage reminds me of a fairy tale, but I can’t think which one.

Your choice is grand. I thought “dollhouse” the moment I saw it! Those details are amazing.
I love the first one with the gate on the stairs of the porch. I immediately thought the dog could sit out there with us and we would not have to worry……. they are all quite perfect!

We’re thrilled it’s been picked up as that most likely means more work for Don. Yay! I watched the first episode on Wednesday and I think it’s really, really good. Edgy and wonderful. That young man who plays the lead is mesmerizing!

Maybe I’m hallucinating, Claudia, but the photo I see under “drum roll” is of your dog Winston and the one captioned Winston is of Don and a woman in a blue hat! No one else has commented on it, which is doubly strange. Love the cottages that I can see though.

The woman in a blue hat is me and that photo is in the post about Don’s birthday. None of that is happening on my end, Marianne. Probably your browser, which is why no one else has commented on it. I haven’t had that problem at all and I’ve been on the blog several times today. When and if that happens with any blog, just reload the page or try another browser.

I love the sweet pink one with the gingerbread style trim too. Very pretty, but it is really dwarfed by the huge house next to it, and it’s so close too. I also agree that the white house looks like two stories from two separate houses. The top story is wider than the bottom one too, very weird. I really like the somewhat funky purple awning on the second one and the privacy of the porch as well. How lucky you are to spend time is such a lovely city like Chautauqua.

I’d take the pink cottage no matter what was next to it. That happens all over Chautauqua, small cottages and then tall sort of rooming houses with four or five floors.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
