Morning Glories

September 26, 2019 at 11:16 am by Claudia

There are six morning glories blooming today. Not bad considering I thought we might have none!

The morning glories that are closest to the side door have interesting slashes of a reddish-purple. Hmmmm.

There are four blooms in the chicken wire fence garden and two in the memorial garden.

A lovely sight to see first thing this morning.

I thought I’d take a picture of the blooms in contrast to the clear signs of autumn all around them. I always plant them from seed during the first week of May and this is how long it takes for them to finally bloom. In the above photo, you can also see that there aren’t nearly the amount of morning glory leaves as there usually are. They were eaten by deer.

Nevertheless, this hardy morning glory thumbed its nose at the deer and produced beautiful flowers. So there!

We due to get rain this afternoon, which is a good thing. We need it. It’s been very dry around here lately.

We’re watching Luther  on Amazon Prime. It stars Idris Elba (I have a crush) and is a fantastic British series. I’ve seen all the episodes before (must have been when Don and I were apart because of work) and I’ve been trying to talk him into watching it for years. It finally took. The timing ends up being perfect because I don’t remember all that much of it, so it’s like new. Excellent series. It used to be on Netflix, now it’s on Amazon.

And I’m reading Paris to the Moon  by Adam Gopnick, who writes for the New Yorker. It’s all about the time he and his wife and son moved to Paris for 5 years, from 1995 -2000. I’m really enjoying it. This is yet another example of Instagram, specifically the hashtag #Bookstagram, exposing me to books I wouldn’t know of otherwise. I’ve seen this book mentioned more than once lately, even though it was published almost 20 years ago in 2000. I finally bit the bullet and bought it.

My favorite city, you know.

Happy Thursday.

I love Luther plus it features the wonderful Ruth Wilson. Have you watched River? I think you would enjoy it as well.

Yes, we saw River. We only wish there were more episodes. It was excellent. Thanks, Dottie.

I also watched earlier episodes of Luther and liked them. Don’t think I really got into the latest ones, but I’ll try again. I’ve loved Idris Elba since The Wire, many moons ago and have never seen any of his work that I didn’t like.

Your morning glories are out performing mine by a bunch. Deer aside, I don’t think it was a good year for morning glories around here. Maybe next year 💙

I recently read Paris To The Moon (may have even mentioned it on here) and liked it. I wish I’d known you wanted to read it because I’d have sent it to you! Oh well–glad you’re enjoying it.
Weather here in S.FL is so lovely. The hot summer is definitely over and it’s great– in the eighties during the day and seventies at night. If only we didn’t have to worry about hurricanes!

Here is a book and movie recommendation you might enjoy. The book is ” Meet Me at the Museum” and the movie is “Puzzle”. The novel is the correspondence between two strangers who become acquainted because of the Tollund Man . Puzzle is about two strangers who meet because of , you guessed it, competitive puzzles. Of course there is more to it than that. They are both what I consider to be quiet stories. I don’t know how else to say it. I’m glad I happened to read and see them at the same time because they are linked in theme and character.

The big news I referred to the other day has to do with Trump.

Those Morning Glories are beautiful. The Paris book sounds interesting. Many years ago I read a three part series where a couple and their baby daughter moved to Ireland. I heard or read somewhere years later that they returned to America.

There’s just something about Idris Elba…shh…I have a crush too. Luther was on PBS for awhile I believe…that’s where I must have seen it.

Love those morning glories…they battled the elements (the deer) just for you. ;)

On reading Penny-ignore language and persevere-worth it. I enjoyed all but one-could not get the books in order but Claudia is correct-easier. Remember this is not a fluff writer!!! One must reflect as one reads!!!

Paris to the Moon is a wonderful book and Gopnik, of course, an excellent writer. I’m glad you are enjoying it.

Your fall is ahead of ours but we are both getting the cold weather and the incessant rain. And big wind on our end. I rescued Rick from his bike ride half way to the lake and this morning with the cold rain, I’m glad I did. Much as he hates to admit it, he’s glad I did, too!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
