Morning Glories and A Dollhouse Question

August 8, 2021 at 9:50 am by Claudia

I don’t remember choosing purple morning glory seeds, but here we are! I’ve only had a few blooms so far. I love morning glories, no matter what color, so welcome! It’s been very hard to train them to grow on the fence this year. For some reason, the seeds I carefully planted in a furrow right next to the fence have emerged further away from the fence and they’re curling around everything but the chicken wire. Also, in one section of the chicken wire fence garden, nothing came up – no zinnias, no morning glories – which leads me to believe that the birds got all the seeds. Ah well. It’s always a bit of a crap shoot, isn’t it?

I cleaned like a madwoman yesterday, yet another spurt where I ended up doing too much. But the dreaded bathrooms are sparkly clean, the house has been vacuumed, the towels have been washed, and the houseplants have been watered. This morning I will water all the porch plants and some of the garden, as it’s been hot and humid here lately.

I wrote a post on Instagram yesterday about the Beacon Hill dollhouse. You might remember that I bought the kit last December. Needless to say, I haven’t started it yet, partly because I want to finish Dove Cottage before I take on something new, but also because of real qualms about having enough space in which to build it. It’s huge. It has a lot of parts. It needs sanding. And the only space I have is our shared office/studio that not only has my things, but also has all of Don’s guitars and other musical instruments. The more I think about it, the more I realize that it’s just not practical for me to attempt to build it in this small cottage. Also: no habitable basement, no attic, no garage.

So, I’ve been thinking about trying to find one already built that I could rehab. You know I love doing that sort of thing to a dollhouse. In fact, except for Don’s mini studio, which I built, every house has been a rehab. I’ve been checking Facebook Marketplace and Craig’s List in my general area, but the only one that came up was one that a guy was asking $1200 for! My IG post asked everyone to keep an eye out for a finished Beacon Hill within sane driving distance from the Hudson Valley. If  you could do that, too, I’d so appreciate it. One reader shared a listing from West Chester, PA and the house looks pretty good. West Chester is near Philadelphia, my old stomping grounds, but it’s about a 3 hour drive from here, which begs the question: do I want to drive that far and/or can I talk Don into driving that far? Because we’d need his car. I’ve had no experience with FB Marketplace. Have any of you? What are your thoughts? I’m itching for a new project as I’m about to wind down work on Dove Cottage. I’d then sell my kit at a discount.

After a year’s drought of any bunnies, we’ve seen this one twice lately:

It’s blurry because he was taking off, but hurrah! We’ve really missed bunnies around here. Don hasn’t done any heavy duty work on the trails this year, so maybe they feel safer here now. Last year, he was constantly up in the woods, hoeing, shoveling, carving out spaces, and probably scaring bunnies off.

Okay.

Happy Sunday.

Stay safe.

We’ve been quite successful in purchasing items on Facebook Marketplace, including two dollhouses. Both transactions were easily arranged , went smoothly , with very reasonable prices. We have an ongoing issue with purchasing from Facebook Marketplace using Facebook pay and the seller never mailing the item, so I would not do that again. In our experience in person pick up is best which you’d do with a dollhouse. Time for a road trip !

Thank you, Barbara! It helps to know how transactions have gone with other buyers, especially a dollhouse lover.

      Stay safe!

That Morning Glory looks like it’s lit up in it’s center. That looks so cool!

I’m not on Facebook, so can’t help you there. But, it sounds like you have a sound plan now, to pursue for your next dollhouse. Good luck on your search.

You certainly were a busy bee yesterday. Sounds like you need a day of rest…enjoy! ;)

Yes, I do! Then I have to try to persuade Don to consider a drive to PA!

      Stay safe, Donna!

I’ve sold a couple of things on FB marketplace and they’ve gone well. It’s nice to get all of the questions out of the way. You don’t give out the meeting place until you and the buyer have agreed. Not totally safe but I think better than Craig’s list. Pick a parking lot and take Don with you. Indicate cash only in the ad—makes life easier.

Love that purple! I have had good luck with Facebook Marketplace. Found a dollhouse that I could make changes, but it was only an hour away! Bill doesn’t mind driving if it is something we were really looking for. I need a good energy rush to clean my house ……maybe today?! Stay safe!

I think I might talk Don into driving there but he didn’t look thrilled at the idea!

      Stay safe, Deb.

I have also had good luck buying and selling on FB Marketplace. As always inspect item and be safe. Love the flowers. I saw a bunny out my window the other morning and it made my day. I need to do a major clean around here. I’ve been really keeping an eye on my Mom as she hasn’t been feeling well. These are hard times watching her struggle. Hugs!

There’s another dollhouse in Quakertown PA that is assembled as far as wall, roof, etc but no windows or doors or paint for $150. Check that one out!

Our kids have had great success w FBM, but always talk about still staying safe & never going alone. Hope Don will make the trip w you!

The MG is beautiful!! We had about 1.5 in of rain yesterday & just that quickly the grass looks so much better,
We are still about 10 inches short of normal.

Hope you had a restful day & hoping we get to soon hear about a day trip & a new house to love.

I have only bought one item (a lamp) on Facebook Marketplace and that was a porch pickup. We picked up the lamp and left the small sum asking price in an envelope on the porch. Lots of cities have safe pickup areas like the parking lot of a police station for such transactions. You might want to look into that. If not, then you can arrange pickup in a safe area like a police parking lot or grocery store lot.

It’s tricky to transport a big dollhouse to a pickup point, though. We’ll see. I’m still on the fence!

      Stay safe, Sharon.

I’m up to 26 bunnies this year. I always count — I have no idea why.

Rick posted his duplex for rent on FB marketplace and had 900 “looks” and a whole lot of people reaching out for more info. So, it’s worth a look. I know people who swear by it.

We spent Sunday with the toddlers but Saturday, after a yard sale purchase of a wicker settee and matching bookcase/etagiere (sp) I overhauled the guest room and cleaned parts of it that hadn’t been done in ages (since the last time I rearranged furniture. Naturally, loads of stuff has landed in all the other rooms so this week I’m taking that on before I go back to the lake. I don’t think I’ll ever tame the clutter. I’ll keep an eye out on my FB page for a Beacon Hill, though I’m not optimistic.

Is this duplex in addition to the house he lives in, Jeanie?

Hang in there when taming that clutter!

      Stay safe.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
