It’s cold and blustery today and I find myself saying to Mother Nature: “No early frost, please!” I’m not ready to say goodbye to these beauties or to the zinnias that keep blooming.
I’m not ready to haul all the porch plants inside for the night in case there might be a frost.
Nope. It’s only October 1st. There’s a hurricane headed up the coast and we’re due for a lot of rain. But no frost, okay?
Good. I’m glad we’ve got that sorted out.
I’ve just finished reading A Song of Shadows by John Connolly. I’m reviewing it on Just Let Me Finish This Page today. Here is the link. Connolly is an incredible writer. Over the past year, after having read The Wolf in Winter, I’ve gone back and read all of his books in order. Now, I’ve become yet another Connolly fan who has to wait a year for the next book to come out. Sob. He’s going to be signing this book at The Mysterious Bookshop next week and I’d love to meet him, but I don’t think that little trip is in the cards for me.
Now, I’m reading Mrs. Pargeter’s Principle by Simon Brett. I’ve read all of the books in his Charles Paris series, but this is my first crack at the Mrs. Pargeter series. As always with Brett, the mystery is very well written and I find myself chuckling throughout the book. He’s very, very witty.

This is currently speeding its way to us via Federal Express. Don is so excited! I have to tell you that I’ve listened to all of the mastered tracks and it’s truly excellent, by far the best recording Don has made. He and Dan sound great together. Rick Gedney, the producer, recorded and mixed it in his studio (all of the tracks were recorded in one day.) Atomic Disc mastered the tracks and put it all together in this package.
It will be available as an MP3 for download or as you see it above, a CD that you can hold in your hands and play on your CD player. I’ll have more information available next week.
We’re very excited. This means a great deal to Don and Dan. And to me. They’re having a CD Release Party at our local venue on October 17th, where Don and Dan will perform, along with several other musician friends.
All of the songs were written by Don.
I’m so proud of that husband of mine.

It’s been really chilly here…but, thankfully no frost yet! I saw the weather yesterday…looks like you are headed for a drenching…too bad it isn’t the other coast. Exciting news about Don’s cd…he’s a multi-talented guy! ;)
A real drenching – and we don’t need it! We got a real drenching a few days ago and the rivers are all back to normal.

By the way, what’s the story on that mike? It looks like something straight out of American Pickers, or from an old black and white movie about a sultry jazz singer (with gardenias in her hair).
Don found the image online and paid for its use. He loved that mike, which is old-fashioned in the best possible way.
There’s a noticeable nip in the air here …. Very unusual for so early in autumn. I had to dig out my flannel PJs, and then this morning, reached for a sweatshirt and socks. I know we’ll get a heat wave soon…typical mixed up Bay Area weather.
Congrats to Don. It’s hard work putting together a CD, especially of one’s own music. Quite an exciting accomplishment. Have fun at the launch party!
Mrs. Parameter….I’ve only read the couple of Simon Brett books available at my local library, but I’ve enjoyed them.
He’s a fun writer – very good at plotting and all that goes into a mystery – with a fabulous sense of the absurd.

How exciting for Don! A CD! We’ve had frost already. I brought my flowers home from the trailer at the lake, but yesterday when I woke up, there was frost on the grass here at home. And the high was 81! Talk about temperature swings. The flowers seem to have survived the frost thought and are still beautiful. That hurricane is scary stuff. Now that our daughter lives just outside of D.C. I’m following the weather channel closer than I ever have. She’s terrified. After growing up with tornadoes in the Midwest, she loved the Pacific Northwest where we don’t have any of those things. Now she has to deal with hurricanes. They are very close, (1 block), from the Cheasapeake Bay and the neighbors have told her that storm surges and tides can get bad. I told her to buy a plane ticket and come home with our granddaughter. Ha!

We had a couple of hurricanes a few years back that did damage here in upstate NY and on our property. They are very scary, so I understand how your daughter feels. Right now, I guess no one is absolutely sure of its track and there are a lot of variables that could change the outcome. Crossing my fingers that all are safe.
Betsy, I too am right off the Chesapeake and actually live on the Broadneck Peninsula between the Magothy and Severn Rivers. What town does your daughter live in? It looks like the coast will get the brunt of this and we’ll be dealing with lots of rain and some flash flooding. My fingers are crossed!

Chilly and raining here…no frost yet…Those Heavenly Blues are so beautiful..I wish I could find paint in that color…I have an old bookcase that I want to redo and that would be a great color for it…Congratulations to Don & Dan…I love the CD cover also…those old microphones are so classy looking…Claudia..you certainly should be proud…He is multi-talented..and a nice guy too…
I bet you could find a paint out there in that color – maybe even with the name Heavenly Blue – google it!

So far no frost here, it was in the forecast for this week but I think that’s changed. I’ve pulled everything in the garden, I hate it when it gets frosted and slimy and then I have to deal with it. Your Morning Glories are beautiful.
