A New Door (For The Dollhouse)

September 18, 2011 at 8:47 am by Claudia

What do you think?

I don’t have a good photo of the original door, but it was boring and too narrow and wouldn’t stay shut. I’ve had this one for quite a while but since it was wider and taller, I knew changing the door would involve measuring and sawing. In a teeny tiny space. My friend Casey generously sent me instructions several months ago. I kept putting it off.

Saturday, I woke up and was ready to tackle the changeover. Maybe the crisp fall air helped?

First I had to pry off the old door and it didn’t come out without a fight. Let’s just say I’ve worked my arm muscles, whatever they’re called…biceps?  Then I marked where the cuts needed to be, but sawing through particleboard isn’t easy! Every time I thought I had made the opening big enough, I discovered it wasn’t quite right. I sawed, I sanded, I sawed again. A long time and piles of sawdust later, the door finally fit. A few coats of paint and the new door is in.

I used a bead for the doorknob. I’m thinking of painting the porch floor in a diamond design: gray and white.

Shot in the late afternoon sun.

When I look inside the dollhouse, I am overwhelmed by all that needs to be done. But there’s no timetable except the one in my head. The fun is in the doing.

Why this photo of my legs and little Scout’s ear?

Flannel pajamas! Yes, I broke them out last night because it’s been downright nippy here and I refuse to use the heat this early in September.

As those of you who are longtime readers of this blog know, I am happiest when in my flannel pajamas. When not forced to don clothes and work for a living, I am fully capable of staying in them all day. In the winter, as soon as I get home from work, on they go.

Sigh.

Happy Sunday.

HA! It is nippy here too so I am wearing my old ratty looking sweat pants with paint stains on them. I am SUCH a fashion Goddess!

Well, I thought I was the only one with paints stains on my PJs, lol!

The porch is adorable; the flip-flops are a nice touch!

Love the new door AND the flannel jammies! I’m a big fan of flannel, too…even in Florida. We Wisconsin girls can keep our Florida doors open even on nights when it will get down into the high 40s. Fresh air wins over furnace (or heat exchanger in our case) any day!
    Enjoy your Sunday, Claudia.

    Claudia,

Nothing like a good jammie day! I have them in Florida, too.

Love the dollhouse door. Can’t wait to see more of the inside.

Love the new door! I like the little windows above the door, they match the big windows.

Yes, autumn is definitely on its way. The nights are getting quite cold here as well, time for extra blankets and those lovely flannels!

I’m wearing my old Mickey Mouse sweatshirt and flannel jammies right now. I see no need to change into anything else today either. LOL

Years ago, as an adult I wanted a doll house. I never got one but eight years ago I was forced to down-size and came to this house half as big as the old one. So, I thought well, I now have my doll house! I’m glad you can play with your doll house.

I love the new door. I have always wanted a doll house but I never got one. Seeing you having so much fun with yours has inspired me to go on the hunt for the perfect one. I have one pair of flannel PJ’s that I love. If it ever gets cool here in Texas maybe I will get to wear them.

You did an incredible job! It’s beautiful. If you didn’t say it was a dollhouse, I would think it was real. I love those little flip-flops by the door too. I wear flannel lounging pants all winter long around home. ♥

So cute! I love dollhouses and have always wanted one. I just can’t figure out where to put it :( We have electric blankets on our beds and I’ve already turned mine on to heat up the bed at night. Don’t like getting into a cold bed!

    Hi Claudia,
Your new little door looks great! I know how hard it is to work in teeny tiny dollhouse spaces so can appreciate the time that went into it.
As for the flannel PJ’s…I’m with you…could live in them!

Oh Claudia, the door is perfect! You amaze me more every time I read one of your posts. I don’t have on flannel pjs yet, but I have been in my cotton pj pants and tshirt all day today. I finally took a shower at 3:00 but I put my pjs back on.

Your little door is just right! The bead for a doorknob is brilliant. One room at a time and it will get done. I am enchanted with your dollhouse. PJ’s are the best…staying in them till any hour of the day is great. It is colder here at night and Fall is truly in the air and the leaves are simply Falling…

When I was growing up my mother, my sister and I always put our jammies on before we sat down to read or watch TV in the evening. During the winters (in Vermont — that’s real winter!) when it got dark around 4 PM, you would find the three of us heading off to find our jammies and warm snuggly bathrobes. I still enjoy getting into my pj’s during the evening before I sit down to watch TV with my husband … just a comforting way to wind down from the day.

That door looks so great! I’ve been wanting to change out the generic door that came installed on The Little Pink House. The one you found has so much more character and charm! I love how the new little chair and flip flops look on the porch– looks great with the new door!
As for flannel pj’s… I live in them when I’m at home. I’ve got quite the variety of prints! Love your squirrel print!

Claudia, how exciting that you’ve done some work on the dollhouse. The door is just super! I have to laugh because before reading the caption, I did not know that it was your leg and I was wondering what it was! LOL! I think that is so funny. I love your pjs. I’m with you about wearing pjs in the house. I do that also. All day long when I’m not going anywhere. And, if I have to go out, I put them on as soon as I get back home. That is after I’ve removed my jewellery. I can’t even stand to wear a watch when I’m at home. In the summer when it’s hot, I wear a slip or a nightgown. I just need to be comfortable in the house. You know, loose and free. No encumbrance whatsoever!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
