On the Road and Mini Roseville Pottery

April 22, 2016 at 8:09 am by Claudia

Greetings from Hartford. I headed to the city yesterday afternoon, as I have an all-day rehearsal ahead of me and trying to get here during the morning rush hour would have been a futile and frustrating endeavor. As it was it took me longer than usual to reach Hartford due to evening rush hour traffic.

I spent most of the evening watching the news coverage of the untimely death of Prince. Shocking. Much too young. And so continues a year of untimely deaths in the music world.

Before I left, Caroline asked me to take some pictures of her newest finds. As I was packing and running around the cottage, I told her I had to do it quickly. (I don’t know where her camera is, but surely she can afford one?)

4-22 miniroseville

Oh my goodness!

I’m trying to curb my immediate reaction, which is pure jealousy.

On the left, Peony. On the right, Iris.

I have a few pieces of Peony, but not a one in Iris. I asked Caroline where she found them, but she refused to reveal her source. We watched the movie Spotlight  the other night – maybe she thinks she’s a reporter?

Spotlight, by the way, was excellent. The Martian, on the other hand, was not. (Why, I wonder, was every astronaut, every employee of the Johnson Space Center, and every reporter impossibly young and beautiful? And that was the least absurd aspect of the movie.)

But back to the mini Roseville.

Caroline quickly rearranged her shelf to add the Peony piece to the mix. You can see the Blu Tack that secures each piece. That will have to remedied at a future date. I had no time to deal with that as I had to get on the road.

4-22 onthecabinet

She placed the Iris vase on top of the cabinet, but didn’t really like it there. She has since moved it to the mantel.

I’ll get a picture of that when I get back home.

(Thanks to reader Mickey who sent me a link to this shop, SP Miniatures, where I found more of the Jeannetta Kendall miniature Roseville pottery!)

And now it’s time to get ready for rehearsal. This will be the first time I’ve seen the cast since the announcement that Anastasia is going to go to Broadway. Very, very exciting!

Happy Friday.

what lovely little pieces for you both to enjoy! hopefully you find some “iris” pieces to fill in your collection, claudia.

and yes, such losses from prince’s passing! after a wrong-and-thankfully-brief turn to another city, i moved to minneapolis a couple months after “purple rain” was released. had the joy of my sister and i hearing prince play a surprise show at first avenue a couple years later and through her connections went to paisley park for a tour and got to hear “sign o’ the times” before it was released. :) :) both that city and that album remain high on my favorites list all these years later (as does my sister!).

hope don’s all healed and you both have a good weekend ahead.

What wonderful memories you and your sister have of Prince. I never got to see him live and I can only imagine how amazing that must have been!

Really stunned about Prince’s passing. Such a talent. Oh Caroline, she has done it again. I’m envious of her gorgeous Roseville!! I hope you enjoy your day in Hartford! So excited this production is going to Broadway!
    hugs,

I am too, though who knows whether I will have anything to do with it when it moves on. Once you get producers into the picture and the demands of Broadway, everything changes!

I don’t know whether she will share, Amy. I hope so. But, as she constantly tells me, I have more pieces of Roseville than she does.

It was quite shocking to hear of Prince’s passing…much too young. I love that Caroline doesn’t want to share her sources…she’s rather spunky! You’ll be in your element today…so I’m sure you’ll enjoy it! ;)

Her new pieces are beautiful!! Sounds like you are both very busy ladies!
I talked to my daughter last evening and I mentioned Prince. She said “You know, Mom ~ I left for work in the morning, and the world was one way….. and at lunch it was a different world for me.”
He did have such an impact. We’ve listened to his music for years, and I guess we somewhat took it for granted. So young! I was always so impressed that he kept his roots in Minneapolis. I understand that there is a plethora of unpublished music and we may, someday, actually hear a new song.
As so very many have said yesterday and today: “This is what it sounds like when doves cry.”

      chris k –

well said and i agree with you and your daughter. love that prince showed we all needn’t live only in a big city on the east or west coast in order to get things done and live a good life (his was just much too short). and i hope we do someday get to hear more of his music.

      r.i.p., prince.

Very, very sad. And too young – much too young. He was brilliant.

I am, too, though I never count on anything when a show moves to Broadway. I hope I’m a part of it, but the show is already changing a lot, as it must, so we’ll see what happens on the other side.

The miniature Roseville is pretty wonderful – I’ve seen a few pieces on eBay as well. Mini Don might become slightly envious of Caroline! What sort of pottery/accessories are you thinking of for the studio?

Something very basic, something that would have been a gift to him from someone. He wouldn’t buy the pieces on his own. Maybe a bit more earthy and rustic?

Isn’t that a coincidence, Elizabeth? Caroline watches me a lot from her house and I think she’s seen my new pieces of Roseville and decided that she would like some too. I’m always happy to get someone hooked on collecting!

This seems to be turning into a little competition between you and Caroline…I love both of your collections…I never imagined that Prince would be leaving us so soon…Every time this happens to a talented person I wonder what more they would have contributed to the world that we will now miss out on..RIP Prince…Best wishes to the cast and crew on moving to Broadway!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
