Monday, Monday.
Now that song is playing in my head. Not a bad song to be hearing, though; I like the Mamas and the Papas.
Today? Write a post, gather tax info because I delayed doing that over the weekend due to lack of sleep, mow the lawn or at least part of it, drink coffee, read, take a walk.
I walked the trail yesterday sans Don. It was humid and hot out there, but I made myself do it because I’m determined to make this part of my daily routine and exercise surely must help one get a good night’s sleep? I hope so! Anyway, I did sleep well last night, so maybe I’m right.
So much of the garden is slowing down, preparing for the seasonal change. It’s nice to see the Memorial Garden taking off, albeit late in the game. I’m not sure when we finally got around to planting seeds, but it wasn’t until the end of May at the very least. So the morning glories, moonflowers, and forget-me-nots are just getting to the bloom stage.
Sweet forget-me-nots.
The sentimental balloon flower surprised me this morning – another bloom!
I put Scout’s marker (a gift from Linda) between the forget-me-nots and the morning glories. She was such a joyous girl. Every morning, as I came down the stairs, she used to jump off the sofa and run over to me and, as I sat down on the bottom step, she’d nuzzle her head between my legs. She loved the dawn of each new day, that girl. She was our very own morning glory.
I’m going to order two more markers; for Winston and Riley. Next year, we’ll add even more plants to our little garden. But this is a nice start.
T-minus one day until the new Louise Penny! I cannot wait. In the meantime, I’m reading M. J. Arlidge’s newest, Little Boy Blue. It’s already been published in England and will be published here in October. I promise to review it on Just Let Me Finish This Page, but that will be closer to the publishing date. I can tell you this: as with all Alridge’s thrillers/police procedurals, this one is chilling.
Happy Monday.

I love the blue in your garden so much! I haven’t known about forget-me-nots; they’re dainty; just exquisite.
Claudia says
They really are. I’ve never grown them before, but I am going to plant more seeds next year.
Vicki says
I was prompted to read about them this morning. They thrive in a moist environment which is certainly not MY environment here in SoCalif. There are a lot of offerings in the species and the trick is finding what will work in my zone but I think it’s going to wind up that I’ll be enjoying forget-me-nots on your blog and not in my own garden which is okay because your photos are so stunning. The blue in that variety of yours is so intense!
Claudia says
Thank you, Vicki!
Linda @ A La Carte says
The garden is looking good and what a perfect place for Scout’s marker. I never got my seeds planted so I’ll hold them and hope next year to do a better job. I need to add a walk to my routine but this heat has been brutal and I’m a wimp. :) I hope you can get some work done on those taxes!
hugs and much love to you and Don.
Linda

I’m starting in on the taxes now, Linda. Hate doing it – our deductions are so complicated.

I like the Mamas and the Papas too. they sounded so good together. I had my first morning glory this weekend too, I planted late also. The garden is off to a good start with the special brick for Scout. Take care.
Claudia says
No morning glory blooms yet, Doris! Still waiting.

Claudia, I admire you being able to stick to your walking regimen!! So many days I tell myself today is the day I’ll start and before I know it the whole day is gone without me walking!! Your garden looks beautiful! Love the blues!! I’m hooked on MJ Arlidge myself, but I’m only on Pop Goes The Weasel… Looking forward to the new Louise Penny!! Happy Monday!!
Claudia says
You’ll love all the Arlidge books, Francine!

Love the Mamas and Papas….and that balloon flower…exquisite! I’m already making plans for next year’s garden….what I’ll be adding, or removing. I didn’t do much this year, because of hubby’s hip surgery, didn’t want to take on too much. So I’ll be rip roaring ready to go next year! I’ve found that on days when I can’t do much walking…I repeatedly climb stairs. Even when I have no place to go…it seems to help! ;)
Claudia says
Climbing stairs is a perfect solution, Donnamae!

About a week ago, I saw a purple MG from a volunteer plant that had come up. This morning was the first beautiful blue one from those we planted in mid-May. So so pretty!! And it is huge!! Sort of made my day. First day of school today for teachers, so my husband had already left the house, so I tried to get the dogs to be as excited as was I….. they just wanted a treat! I did go out in my nightgown and take a picture. Does anyone else do that….. hoping no one will drive by??
Hope your Monday, Monday is going well. Taxes…. ugh. Hate those, but love the Mamas and the Papas!!
Claudia says
I’m outside in my pajamas all the time!
No Morning Glories here yet, but I planted them later than you did. I can see a couple of minuscule buds, so that means in a couple of weeks I’ll have some flowers. I’m so glad yours are open!
Nancy Blue Moon says
I miss my balloon flowers…I think I will plant some new ones next Spring..Brrr..thinking of next Spring reminds me that Winter is coming soon…I think Scout’s marker is such a sweet way to remember her..it will be even better when her brothers are there beside her…
Claudia says
I agree. I have to get going on that order, Nancy.
Wendy T says
So busy today, I just got around to reading your blog post. I’m glad the Memorial Garden is flowering. I like the little plaque for Scout….you don’t need anything but her name to bring up memories, and the same for Winston and Riley when you receive them. I know your walks will help you sleep better! Keep it up, Claudia.
Claudia says
I’m determined to keep it up, Wendy!

The balloon flowers fascinate me. From that time a few years ago when I first discovered one at the lake. I had no idea if it was a weed or what, but I had to inspect it several times a day to see what the puffed up balloon bud was turning into. Boy was it a surprise when the whole thing popped open and became a five-petal blossom! I think I may need to plant some next year, too!
Claudia says
They’re really amazing, aren’t they? I’d never really seen one until I planted these.
