The Cats & an Update

August 18, 2010 at 9:12 am by Claudia

Those of you who have been reading this blog for a while might remember Nella, my parents’ adored cat. They had to say goodbye to Nella several months ago. On that terrible day, to their surprise, they came home with 2 rescued kittens that had been living at the Vet’s – Luke and Lydia. Here is Lydia today:

She is the smaller of the two. She has an exotic look and her profile looks rather Egyptian and sphinx-like. She is also the one who gets in the most trouble.

Mr. Luke the handsome. This boy has huge eyes. He is shy, but I am proud to say that yesterday he let me pet him. That accomplishment took 6 days. These two run and play and provide an endless source of amusement for my parents.

Morning Ritual

August 17, 2010 at 12:02 am by Claudia

This is my nephew-dog, Max. Every morning, starting anywhere from 8 to 8:30 am, he lies out by the pool.

He’s waiting. Waiting for a sound – a click – that means something terrible is coming. It comes at 9:05 every morning.

Oh no. He heard it.

He must attack that water. It must be stopped!

He bites at the water and barks repeatedly.

Then he runs to the other corner, does the same thing and runs around and around the pool and barks until the noise stops.

The threat is over for another day. Well done, Max.

I used the Random Number Generator and the winner of Rules of the Lake, Irene Ziegler’s book of short stories, is Tracie from My Petite Maison. Congratulations, Tracie! Send me an email with your address and I will get the book out to you next week when I am back home. Thanks to everyone who left a comment.

Baseball & the Beach

August 15, 2010 at 2:22 pm by Claudia

We had a great time at the Rays game on Friday night even though they lost. Our seats were great – just behind and to the left of home plate – about 8 rows back. It was “Turn Back the Clock Night” at the ballpark and all of the players had on 70’s era uniforms. Mer and I cheered, stood and watched every minute. The boys, on the other hand, ate. And ate. And ate.

My beautiful sister and her son and my nephew, Jake. He’s 13.

I wore a Rays t-shirt and my Red Sox cap. Just for a while.

This morning we went for a walk on the beach: my sister, brother-in-law and I. The water in the Gulf is so warm and such a beautiful shade of blue/green.

I found some wonderful seashells with the help of my sister. Here I am clutching my finds to my chest.

And my sister is holding a teeny-tiny shell.
I’m also spending a lot of time with my parents. My mom is very frail so I am treasuring this time with her, as well as with my father. I wish Don could be here, too, but he is holding down the fort back at home.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
