Pincushions & Caterpillars

August 9, 2010 at 9:40 am by Claudia

What do you think? I’ve added one of Betty’s pincushions. There will be more updates on this little rocker, of that you may be sure.

I’m in the middle of preparations for my trip to Florida on Wednesday morning. Didn’t I just get back home? This will be a much-needed visit with my parents and sister, brother-in-law and nephews. I especially need to see my Mom and give her some big hugs.

Look what I saw when I opened the side door just now:

A caterpillar in the most brilliant shade of yellow. I had to make sure Riley didn’t step on it while coming back in the house! What will this transform into, I wonder? Note: I just did some research and it will turn into an American Dagger Moth. They like Maple trees – and we have a lot of them.

Have a great Monday.

Freestylin’

August 8, 2010 at 8:35 am by Claudia

Yesterday was that rare day where the weather was perfect – no humidity, cooler temperatures and abundant sunshine. Don and I decided to drive around looking for garage sales which is something new to us. On these days, we borrow the lingo of our favorite American Pickers and say that we’re going freestylin’ – a fun excuse to explore areas that are new to us.

Don found a lot of old records that were 4 for a $1.00. I made the mistake of spying an old army cot and mentioned that my family had used them on our camping trips when I was a child. It was $3.00. Don went for it. Now it is on our porch. Hmmm. I’m thinking it could be an area to recline…covered with pillows.

I found this piece for 50 cents:

There’s no marking. If anyone out there knows the pattern, I’d love to know. Pretty, isn’t it?

Don got this:

We both grew up going to Big Boy restaurants. In his neck of the woods, they were called Bob’s Big Boy, in mine they were just Big Boy. That restaurant holds a special meaning for Don, so this will go on his desk. $1.00. As a vegetarian, I now cringe at all the burgers I ate in those days.

This next treasure was not found at a garage sale. Heidi gave it to me the other day.

Is this not adorable? This little handmade (I believe) rocking chair was designed to hold spools of thread. And the color! I’m totally in love with it. It even has a little slot on the back to hold scissors:

Do you think the seat is designed to hold a pin cushion? I have one that I know would look adorable on it. This will be moving on up to the studio today.

I hope you have a wonderful Sunday.

Butterfly

Thank you, my friends. Your sweet comments are such a comfort to me. Riley is a bit better today and for that I am grateful.

Watching over Riley was my priority yesterday, but I did manage to go out and do a little garden clean up. The timing was right because I saw this:

A symbol of change, metamorphosis, transformation. And just plain beautiful.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
