Baby Bunny & a Birthday

July 31, 2010 at 7:28 am by Claudia

Baby bunny sighting out the kitchen window, hence the screen effect. This is the littlest one I’ve seen. The early evening sunlight glowed through the baby’s ears.

The bunnies rarely dine in the garden. It hasn’t been a problem. I know, knock on wood! We have so many areas around the edges of the property that have wildflowers and wild roses and weeds that there is plenty to dine on. Last night’s dinner seemed to be grass. You can see all the dead patches from the horrible heat we’ve had this summer.

Speaking of that, we seem to be in a cooler spell. This morning I got up, came downstairs and felt chilly! We’d left the windows open for the dogs and it was positively brisk in here. I know the dogs were liking it because I could barely rouse them to go outside and take care of business.

Finally, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MOM! My dear Mom is 83 years old today. You’re the best Mom and I love you very much. See you soon – I’m coming down in less than 2 weeks.

Thursday Morning Snapshots

July 29, 2010 at 9:51 am by Claudia

Ah yes, a slightly rainy, humid Thursday morning with a cup of coffee and…what’s that to the left? Yep. Poison Ivy Care. I regret to say that after 5 years of successfully navigating the poison ivy that grows all around this property, it finally won. Don’t know how, don’t know when. My right ankle is the lucky recipient of this lovely rash and it’s driving me nuts. I don’t know how all of you do it when you get a really bad attack! Mine is limited to the ankle and thank goodness for that. It might be getting ever so slightly better.

This time I didn’t leave the flowered mug behind in San Diego. I’m not sure why I left it there last year, but gosh darn it, I bought it and it deserves to be holding my coffee in MHC. Doesn’t it look at home here?

Today is cleaning day. After I get my tush in gear, it will be full throttle for me, cleaning gear in hand. I will be taking no prisoners. The dogs will be bored, of course…I care not.

Remember the beautiful gift Maryjane gave me when we spent the afternoon together in San Diego? I’ve been wondering where to hang it. The other day when I was fussing with the studio, I hit upon an idea. What do you think?

Let’s face it, the front of the craft table is a boring white. Maryjane, you have come to the rescue! Your gorgeous garland looks perfect here and it makes me happy.

I’m off to spritz some more treatment spray on my ankle and start my cleaning. Have a great day.

Around the Studio

July 27, 2010 at 2:51 pm by Claudia

I decide to clean up the studio today. Let’s not even mention the need for major cleaning in the bathrooms, the kitchen, the office, shall we? I grabbed some time while Don was home so Mr. Riley wouldn’t become obsessed with the fact that I was upstairs while he was downstairs. This happens when the other human in the house isn’t around to keep him company downstairs; you can hear him pace back and forth, toenails clicking on the wood floor. Pretty soon, you’re going insane and you give up and go downstairs. Anyway, I dusted, polished, reorganized – somehow it’s more fun when all this cleaning has to be done in your “fun place.”

Two of my California finds have found their way to the studio. Yes, I am still in love with the glove box. How could I not be? And there’s my little California talc tin. Yummy prettiness.

When I put in the design wall, I had to cut out a hole for the light switch. It always looked a little sloppy, I must say. Today I spied some of Jill’s wonderful stamped muslin and a lightbulb went on in my noggin. Now it looks much better!

While I was working, the sunlight coming through the skylight was brutal. I’ve been pondering this problem for a while. Elyse, I looked over at the little pink chicks you gave me and they were white. What the…??? So I rigged up something temporary until I actually install a curtain rod. What do you think?

Yes, the net curtains from IKEA are back. They have served me well while staying in temporary digs in San Diego. Now they have a new home. You can’t beat the price. I think they were $4.00 and I’ve used them over and over. Don’t tell anyone, but I thumbtacked them to the wall. Yes, I did. That’s why spackle was invented.

Found some blue ribbon and tied it around the bottom, then looped it onto the window handle.

Cost? Nothing.

I’ll do something more permanent in the future, but for the moment, this is making me happy.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
