Getting Ready

June 30, 2010 at 4:12 pm by Claudia

Only have 4 days left in town…actually about 3 1/2 at this point in the day. That means I have to pack boxes, run errands and do just one more load of coin-operated laundry. Tonight is opening night for The Taming of the Shrew. Saturday will be the final opening and I’ll leave for the airport on Sunday morning.

I said goodbye to my little Koala friend this morning as I walked to the theater. Little Darcy aka Sweet Pea was napping as usual. Same perch. Gosh, I wish I’d had my camera with me the day I actually saw him standing and stretching with his eyes open! That little minx caught me unawares.

Ralphie and I have become good buddies. In fact, he roams between apartments, often snoozing at my feet. When Adrian has to be at rehearsal for a long time, I bring him over to my place. I am crazy about this sweetheart of a dog and I cannot tell you how wonderful it has been to have a dog around for the last 2 weeks.

I’ve been thinking about hosting a little blog party – maybe in August – centered around our collections. Seeing what others collect is always fascinating to me. Does that sound like something you might be interested in?

Monday Morning Thoughts & Photos

June 28, 2010 at 1:09 pm by Claudia

:: The fix-it crew worked long into the night and the sinkhole is covered. Today they are back out there doing whatever it is they have to do to finish the job off. We had water around 8:00 pm and I finally took a shower around 9:00. Oh, that felt good!

:: Does it ever seem to you that Fifi is photographing everyone’s house but yours? Come on, be honest! It seems as if every time I go visit a blog lately, Fifi is on the way to photograph the blogger’s house or has just left. It started with my good friend, Elyse, then Lizzie, then my sort-of neighbor, Sandy and now she is traveling through the midwest. In all seriousness, congratulations, fellow bloggers!

Truth be told, I don’t think my house is ready for any sort of professional photography. But it is cute. And charming enough to make me happy. At least for the moment. I know myself; I will want to change things as soon as I get home. When I’m away for a long period of time, I come back and see the cottage with a much more critical eye.

:: More photos from Christie and Rita’s sale:

Some of Christie’s gorgeous painted flowers that completely transform this piece of furniture.

For some reason, I never got a photo of Christie. There were lots of people there and she was very, very busy.

:: King Lear opened on Saturday. One down, two more to go. And I have only 6 more days until I am winging my way home.

Have a wonderful Monday.

Sinkhole

June 27, 2010 at 2:41 pm by Claudia

Earthquakes…yes, we’ve had 5 since I’ve been here. But this morning I woke up at 7:00 and couldn’t get any water to flow from the taps. I looked outside and saw this:

Water gushing out of a sinkhole – right on our corner. Since this corner is at the top of a hill – there was water everywhere.

The area was cordoned off – for a long time no one could get to their cars, until the police finally let them move out, one at a time.

As we stood there we watched the sinkhole get bigger.

Big machines have moved in and are moving the broken chunks of pavement out.

No one can take a shower. I need my coffee so the very first thing I did was pull on some clothing and walk several blocks to the 7 – 11 to buy some bottled water. I’ve had coffee, I’ve brushed my teeth. That’s about all I can do at the moment.

I would like to go home now, please.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
