On this McCoy Monday, I am sharing my oldest piece of McCoy pottery with you. The company was called Nelson McCoy in its early days. This piece was made in 1935 and is from the stoneware line – there is no mark on the bottom. I’ve rarely, if ever, seen a piece from this era. I was in Owensboro, Kentucky one day on a coaching job and I wandered into an antique store and saw this piece. The fact that it has a chip or two didn’t matter to me – I knew it was a gem. Actually, I rather like that it has been used and has a patina.

You can see the flower in the design – is it a water lily? I’ll have to do some more research. So many of you are collectors and I’m sure you, like me, love the story behind each piece you collect. What are the odds I would be in Owensboro, KY and happen upon this little gem? It now lives behind the glass doors of my china cabinet in the kitchen.

Sweet Little Shelf

I found this little treasure the other day at one of my favorite little shops. I wanted to show you how petite it is so I photographed it next to the ‘wrought iron thingy.’ The tag on it said it was used as a spice rack. I just love it – the flower in a deco-like design, its colors of blue and cream and the curvy sides. I’m thinking I might use it in the studio area to hold sewing notions or treasures from my blogging friends. All I know is the minute I spied it in a booth – hidden away on the floor – it was mine.



My friend Donna, from Brynwood Needleworks, surprised me the other day with this lovely Valentine/ATC that she created. She is so talented! It reminds me of something handmade during the Victorian era – sweet, heartfelt and beautiful. Donna, by the way, is having a giveaway for her 300th post, so you just might want to stop by.

It is a very windy Friday here – very windy. Scout and I have to take a quick trip to the Veterinarian’s office and I have errands to run – such as trying to track down a copy of the new Flea Market Style magazine. Let’s hope my local stores have it on the shelf!

Snow, Dollhouse Chair and a Gift

Yes…more snow arrived yesterday. There seems to be about 6 or 7 inches on the ground. Fortunately, it was the light, fluffy kind which made shoveling much easier. As Don and I shoveled for the second time, I shouted out, “Wouldn’t it be great if this was our last snow of the winter?” I’m ever hopeful.

I’m priming the interior of the dollhouse after a few days away from it. Not very exciting…but it must be done. The little chair I was working on taunted me, so I tried a wash of aqua.


What do you think? I think it needs something more. Maybe a bit of antiquing glaze? I’d like it to look “artfully worn.”

I won a giveaway at Mary’s blog, Across the Pond. Mary is a seasoned traveler and is going on a big trip soon. She gave us a series of clues and we had to guess where she was headed. By some stroke of luck, I guessed correctly: South Africa, Botswana, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. I also correctly guessed she would be visiting Victoria Falls. Doesn’t that sound like the most wonderful trip? Mary is going with some very close friends and I can’t wait to hear all about it. She sent me these lovely prizes:

Tomorrow is the second anniversary of Mockingbird Hill Cottage! I’ve recently passed the 400 post mark. What a wonderful 2 years it has been!
