Monday – the Funeral

September 19, 2022 at 8:00 am by Claudia

I’m writing this post on Sunday because we’re getting up early on Monday to watch the funeral of Queen Elizabeth, so I won’t have time to write at my usual time in the morning. Better to write it now and guarantee it’s published near the usual time instead of hoping I get to it.

Sunday was warm – 83 degrees – and sunny. I was actually rather shocked by the warm temps when I went out to water some of the plants.  There is still a lot of mowing to do, but we plan to spread it out over the week ahead. Hopefully, I’ll be able to join in. My back is getting better; I vacuumed and dusted and did a little more work on the puzzle. After all of that, I sat back down in my chair with the heating pad on.

Remember the bunnies eating all my zinnia buds? Well, I guess they didn’t get them all because these tiny zinnias have bloomed. I’m hopeful there will be a few more. The gardens along the chicken wire fence have suffered this year. The Rose of Sharon didn’t bloom as much as it would have had we had rain. The morning glories and zinnias basically came to almost nothing in the chicken wire fence garden, and the aforementioned zinnias right outside the side door grew, were eaten, and apparently fought back. The morning glories behind these zinnias are growing up the fence, but no buds are in sight. Still hoping.

What a strange and depressing summer. Frankly, though I dread winter, I’m very eager for fall. These cooler mornings and evenings are lovely. I’m afraid fall color here in my part of the northeast will be a bit of a bust because of the drought.

Okay, my friends.

Stay safe.

Happy Monday.

Sunday

September 18, 2022 at 8:40 am by Claudia

This gives you an idea how long the grass was in the front yard. Don went out to tackle it because it had to be done. Now his shoulder is sore. We’re quite the pair.

You can see that there are still brown patches from the drought, but over all, it’s recovered nicely. Oh, forgot to tell you, I saw another monarch caterpillar on the milkweed about a week ago. We should be seeing a butterfly soon.

I’m itching to mow, but Don would stop me, I know. My back is still sore, but so much better that I’m feeling hopeful again. I actually worked on the puzzle for about 10 minutes yesterday. I’m reading Joe Country  by Mick Herron and I’ve been reading it in big chunks, which makes me very happy.

What else? I finished a hat for the girls and then I made a tiny hat for the little girls, in this case, Lily. In keeping with my policy to limit overwhelming you with doll stuff, I’ll probably show that to you tomorrow or Tuesday.

There’s more grass to be cut, but I’m making Don take it easy today.

A somewhat brief post, but there’s not much else happening.

Stay safe.

Happy Sunday.

Dress Up

September 17, 2022 at 9:17 am by Claudia

My back is getting better. I don’t recommend having a coughing fit with a sore back, but other than that, it’s slowly getting stronger. I was talking to Don yesterday and looked over at my chair, with a pillow and heating pad added to the mix, and I said that it looked like an old lady lived here. Just add some BioFreeze and Vicks to the table and the picture would be complete. I’m grateful for that heating pad, but I’ll be glad when I can give it a rest.

Two girls were dressed yesterday.

Wren – who was looking for a place to read on the porch. She needed some privacy.

(I’ve never seen that girl smile.)

And Lucy. She’s giving me ‘the look.’

That girl is a handful.

I crocheted another hat, which you’ll see at some point. Now, I’m contemplating crocheting a tiny hat for Wren/Lily, my smaller BJD dolls. It may be an exercise in frustration; we’ll have to see.

Hey, it’s all keeping me sane.

I read for a chunk of time this morning. Very satisfying. Today, Don is going to tackle mowing. Much as I want to mow – I really missed it during the drought – pushing a lawnmower is not advisable at this point in my back recovery. So, I’ll do some laundry, dust, clean the kitchen, and crochet. I don’t have to coach again until Wednesday.

We’re having very cool mornings, with a warm up later on in the day. Fall is here.

Stay safe.

Happy Saturday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
