Saturday

May 28, 2022 at 9:11 am by Claudia

Saturday morning on the porch. It’s raining off and on and we’re due for some thunderstorms later in the day.

If you follow my sister Meredith and read her blog, you might have been wondering where she’s been. It wasn’t something I could talk to you about. It was her story to share when the time was right. But she’s written a blog post now so I can share a bit.  Briefly, she’s getting a divorce, she’s moved to a new home, and finally, finally, she is in a place where she can begin to heal.

Over the past several years, it has been my constant wish and dream that my sister could finally find peace. She is an incredible human being who deserved better than the crap she was having to deal with on a daily basis. Her husband is a troubled man. Life with him is extremely stressful. And it has been this way for most of their marriage. I don’t know if I could have stuck it out as long as she did, but then again, I’m not a mom with three children. Her concern was, first and foremost, for her children – and so she stayed. Eventually, something happened that was the final straw and she knew it was time to prepare to leave. The transition has been stressful, to say the least, but the day she finally moved into her new home was one of the happiest days of my life. Don and I were literally cheering and clapping in our living room. My sister is so strong.

I love Meredith and all I want is for her to be happy again. To feel that she doesn’t have to constantly be on high alert. To know that her new home can be and will be her haven, her safe place. And that once Little Z adjusts to this change, to know he will be happier. The older boys – who are really men – are at an age where they can support Mere and be there for her. They are such great guys. She has friends down in Florida who have helped her through this transition and I’m so grateful for them. And Z will eventually thrive.

Meredith gives and gives to everyone she knows.

Now it’s time for her to have the gift of peace and release.

You can read her post here. There’s more information there.

She is a strong woman and I am enormously proud of her bravery. Better days are ahead, my dear one. Better days are ahead.

Stay safe.

Happy Saturday.

Wildflowers and Egg Cups

May 27, 2022 at 9:56 am by Claudia

Running a little late today! I was awake for several hours in the middle of the night, but, thankfully, I went back to sleep. I slept until 8:30! Unheard of. So I’m inhaling my coffee in order to wake up enough to write a post.

It’s going to rain today – maybe some storms, as well

Boy, this time of the year is so lush and green and wildflowers are everywhere. I have more fleabane and wild phlox than ever before. I walked around the property yesterday and found wild phlox in little pockets where it has never been before. I love that. Mother Nature is establishing little gardens for me that are full of unexpected delights.

I love my home and gardens.

Quiet: The Power Of Introverts In A World That Can’t Stop Talking   arrived in yesterday’s mail. I can’t wait to start it. Another jigsaw puzzle also arrived because I just can’t paint at the moment and after the news of the tragedy in Uvalde and, now, the inaction of the police, I am so full of rage and despair that I think a little puzzle action is needed. It calms me. This time, I am going to be very careful with my back.

Yesterday Don and I went on our monthly date for Five Guys french fries. It’s such a simple thing, but it’s such fun. We have great conversations while sitting in the car eating the fries, and we people-watch as well. But first, we visited Barnes & Noble where I found the new issue of Country Living.

A lovely group of egg cups; simply but beautifully staged. In the top row, second from the left, is my Jadeite egg cup. And in the bottom row, third from the left, is my Delft egg cup from Holland. I didn’t think much about it beforehand, but I’m so glad they included it. My mom gave it to me. When she heard I was starting a collection of egg cups, she started looking for them when she was out and about. This was one of her finds. So it is very dear to me.

It’s a full page in the magazine, so I’m pleased. Don wants me to frame it and I think I will.

Today? I’m taking it easy. I have lots of books to read: I’ve currently got three going, which is rare for me.

Stay safe.

Happy Friday.

The Frog and The Dude

May 26, 2022 at 9:03 am by Claudia

In an effort to bring a brief smile to your faces, I’ll share an encounter I had with a frog the day before yesterday when I was weeding the area near The Dude.

I saw him as he jumped away from me as I worked.

Soon he started to scale The Dude.

He rested for a while.

Meanwhile, I kept working.

The next thing I knew, he had scaled the Dude summit.

He stayed there for the longest time – a safe place to get away from the big human pulling weeds. Occasionally, he would look my way, but the moment I tried to to take a picture of his face, he turned away. I did take a little video, which I sent to Don (who was sitting no more than 20 feet from me inside the house.)

A lovely bit of nature’s magic helping to make the chore of weeding a bit less tedious.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and emotions yesterday. I find I am still unable to reply to your comments and after thinking about it yesterday and this morning, I feel they are more powerful without my intrusion into the conversation.

Both Don and I are heartsick and furious. Today, I think I’ll try to take a break from the coverage, if only for my sanity. Don is going to do the same.

I did some unplanned yard work yesterday. I think I need to keep busy and distract myself.

Much love to you all.

Stay safe.

Happy Thursday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
