Merry Christmas

December 25, 2024 at 11:55 am by Claudia

I was so relaxed this morning that I forgot to post until now! We’ve just finished eating our french toast breakfast (cooked by me,) Don is cleaning up the kitchen, and we exchanged gifts. One of his presents for me won’t arrive until tomorrow, so we’ll exchange our other gift then. We decided on two small, relatively inexpensive gifts each.

We had a surprise on Christmas Eve morning. More snow had fallen overnight. Just about an inch. So, even though the temperatures were warmer yesterday, we had enough on the ground to guarantee a White Christmas. And just now, the sun came out! It’s truly lovely out there. We’re blessed.

We sang carols out loud in the car yesterday while we were doing last minute grocery shopping. We’ve been listening to Christmas music this morning. It’s a lovely and simple day.

Prayers for peace this Christmas and always. Don and I send our love to you and yours.

Stay safe.

Cold, Cubbies, Christmas

December 23, 2024 at 8:10 am by Claudia

Good morning! It’s -1° as I write this. The weekend has been bitterly cold, but the ‘warm up’ will start today as we hit the mid 20s. Only a low of 16° tonight – positively balmy! Even though it was frigid yesterday, the sun was shining on the snow and it was quite beautiful out there.

We watched It’s a Wonderful Life  last night and, of course, I cried. Tonight, we watch A Christmas Carol  with Alastair Sim, and tomorrow, The Bishop’s Wife.

Cubby Christmas:

I have a short video of them on my IG Blythe feed from a week or two ago, but I am unable to post videos here.

Anyway, I love decorating their shelves. The view from my chair here in the den makes me smile. The cubbies are directly across the room from me and the Christmas tree is just to the right. Not bad!

I don’t have the energy to undress them all and put them in Christmas sweaters this year. It takes hours to transform and pose them, so we’re taking a break from that.

I’ll be back with a message on Christmas morning. I hope you are ready for the holiday, enjoying the decorations, spending time with family and friends. I’m especially thinking of blog readers Chris K., Brenda in Florida, Vicki in California, and Kathy, who is taking care of a family member who is seriously ill. I know they are unable to comment because of illness or commitments elsewhere. Sending love to all of you. If there are more that I’m missing, please let me know.

Much love to you.

Stay safe.

Happy Monday.

Decorations in the Miniature World

December 21, 2024 at 9:05 am by Claudia

We got about 2 inches of snow and it’s quite lovely out there! Tonight and tomorrow will have lows in the single digits so I’m hoping the snow lasts through Christmas. Fingers crossed.

An interesting thing happened yesterday. I got a call from the USPS. My first thought was that it was a scam, but for some reason, I picked it up and it was a woman named Melanie from Customer Care in Albany, checking on the package from Spain that I had been tracking. I told her it had arrived but that I was checking on another delivery (the Etsy sale) and she started tracking it on the phone. She checked all the little details that we don’t see and said she thought she saw some movement and that she would get back to me on Monday. We had a quite a long conversation and she was really helpful. Sure enough, the package moved from Grand Rapids, MI to Richmond, VA later in the day. All in all, a very satisfying experience!

A little tour of some ‘small’ Christmas decorations:

The putz house village. When it’s sunny, the light comes through the windows of the houses – many of them look like stained glass.

The vintage Lake House. If you look closely, you can see the tree in the window.

There it is.

A glittery gold tree inside the entrance to the other vintage dollhouse.

And Santa arriving with a beautiful wreath.

I love these little touches, things that I know about, but no one else does. I doubt whether Don has noticed this Santa yet, but he will.

Whoops! I forgot about Hummingbird Cottage! (I’ve already shown you Dove Cottage, though I had to check back through my posts to verify that.)

The tree is always placed upstairs in the den.

A little tree in the bedroom.

And one by the front door.

A wreath on the newel post.

And the tree through the window.

The decorations in my real life house are kept to a minimum – the tree, the putz houses, a few little vintage treasures here and there. The rest of the decorations are in the miniatures. And that includes the doll cubbies, which I’ll share with you on Monday,

Tonight, The Shop Around the Corner, and on Sunday, It’s a Wonderful Life.

Stay safe.

Happy Saturday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
