Day Three Hundred Eighty-Two

March 30, 2021 at 10:03 am by Claudia

Proof that though the temperature is all over the place, spring is here. These are the daffodils, planted long ago by another owner, that live on the edge of the woods. There are also daffodils near the shed and up in the woods, as well as some in the big garden bed. But this particular bunch is always the first to come up.

Don’s appointment yesterday went well, though he had a long wait – there were a lot of patients there. Today is – drumroll – grocery pickup. And tomorrow is the day we get our second shots.

Other than that, there’s not a whole lot to say. I’m working on a puzzle that is a challenge. That’s a good thing. I’m still reading Snow. It’s wonderful, and it’s not all that long, but even though I read every day, I usually only find time for it in the early morning and right before I go to bed. I read for the pleasure of reading and I don’t want or need to read quickly. I had to do that when I was constantly reviewing books and eventually I realized that I had lost the exquisite pleasure of a slow read, just for me. The same thing happened when I was crocheting scarves to sell in the Etsy shop. I had to stop. Anyway, that is why I deleted my reading blog and very rarely review books here. I’m happy to unofficially pass along interesting reads and I do, but reviewing? Only on rare occasions.

I picked up some mail from the post office box the other day. Both Kathy and Kate sent me interesting articles they had saved for me and there was also a box from Kathy. Poor Kathy – she sent it to me in January, but as I said the other day, our little post office is the size of a large walk-in closet, therefore we rarely go there in times of COVID, unless we know there is something waiting for us.

Here’s what she sent me:

A necklace with monarch chrysalises, the green version and the just-about-to-emerge version. Aren’t they lovely? Thank you so much, Kathy! I love them. I sent you a thank you email a few days ago, but I don’t know if you ever received it. They’re such a lovely surprise and a beautiful symbol of an experience we’ll never forget.

Stay safe.

Happy Tuesday.

Day Three Hundred Eighty-One

March 29, 2021 at 9:56 am by Claudia

Wind. And more wind. But, in spite of the wind, the sun popped out. That makes it a bit more bearable. We are off to Don’s eye doctor this afternoon for his treatment. We pick up our grocery order tomorrow morning, so we have food on hand in case we feel less than tip top after our second vaccine on Wednesday.

I’m working on a puzzle that is a wee bit difficult. I know you understand that I love jigsaw puzzles and the entire process of putting them together, but an equally important benefit that I don’t usually mention is that working on a puzzle really helps my anxiety. The kind of zen-like focus involved in solving the puzzle really makes a difference in my well-being. I used to feel the same thing when I was knitting or crocheting or doing the crossword puzzle.

Anyway, more egg cups:

Disregarding the top row of cubbies (it was on another post,) we have an Emma Bridgewater egg cup that I purchased in London a few years ago, a Walking Ware egg cup from England, a wonderful egg cup from Devon from a blogging friend, a Holt Howard rooster egg cup, a flow blue transferware egg cup, a tiny little rabbit holding up an egg cup, an art deco style cup found at the Paris Flea Market, another egg cup from the flea market, a rooster egg cup given to me by a reader of the blog, a face egg cup – also a gift, another rooster egg cup (they were a pair,) a brown transferware egg cup – Mason’s Vista – from England, a chick coming out of an egg from Portugal (the egg itself was a gift from my mom,) a very old red transferware cup found at the flea market in Paris, two egg cups from Abbey Road in London, a Hankscraft egg cup, another chicken coming out of an egg (from my mom,) a little chick (from mom,) a Jadeite egg cup, and two modern cups that were a gift – I think they’re from Finland, but I’m not sure if I’m remembering correctly.

There’s more, of course, and I’ll try to post them this week as we head toward Easter.

Stay safe.

Happy Monday.

Day Three Hundred Eighty

March 28, 2021 at 10:30 am by Claudia

Heavens, was this one fun! I really loved working on it. There’s so much activity going on, so many wonderful characters. I was sad to see it end.

I’ve ordered another one, as this next week’s temperatures are going to be on the cold side so that means no work outside. But it doesn’t arrive until tomorrow, so I’m starting another one – a botanical chart – that I already had in my puzzle stash.

It’s very, very rainy today with – yes, you’ve guessed it – high winds developing later in the day and tomorrow.

Do you hear that? That was me, screaming.

Thankfully, we have a roof over our heads and lots of activities to keep us entertained. There are also, of course, chores – like washing the sheets, vacuuming, swiffering, watering the plants, etc.

The daffodils are getting ready to bloom and I hope the cold snap doesn’t mess with them. More day lilies and other plants are starting to show themselves. But I’m not clearing the leaf cover from the beds for at least a couple of weeks, if not longer.

Soon, but not yet.

Stay safe.

Happy Sunday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
