Anastasia, Neon and Manhattan

February 1, 2018 at 9:23 am by Claudia

A very cold night in NYC did not stop the crowd that came to see Anastasia. It’s selling well. Lovely to see some of the cast backstage after the show, to meet new cast members, to see it again. Later this afternoon, I will do some individual coaching. Interestingly – in the small world category – I was sitting next to a women who looked familiar to me and when we started chatting, it turns out that I met her years ago at the Old Globe. She had also been thinking that I looked familiar. She’s in town for an audition.

On the way to the theater, I tried to take some photos, but juggling my notepad and my purse and the camera (while wearing gloves) proved problematic. But I did get an interesting shot:

I’m rather liking the blurry and squiggly lights.

And here’s a view of our tiny kitchen. It is impossible for us both to be in there at the same time.

Tin of cookies on the counter.

The apartment has all the trendy things of the moment: a dash of subway tile, stainless steel appliances, open shelving in the living room, polished wood floors, a dash of midcentury modern, great ceiling fixtures and a faux moose head on the wall. Sort of fun!

Don’s doing well, but he’s tired. Long rehearsal days, new dances to be learned, run-throughs for the producers and then a move to the theater on Monday.

Today I think I’ll mosey on down to Greenwich Village before I have to go to the theater. Tonight, I get to spend the evening with my husband. It will be the last one for a while, as he will be moving into afternoon and evening rehearsals. Sigh.

Happy Thursday.

City Bound

January 31, 2018 at 7:35 am by Claudia

Armed with sustenance for my husband, I’m heading into Manhattan this morning. Officially, I’ll be there for work, but I’m also happy that I can grab a bit of time with Don. And it will be a bit, as we are on different schedules. Tonight, when Don is home from rehearsal, I will be watching Anastasia  again and taking notes. Tomorrow, when I’m free during the day, he’ll be at rehearsal and I have to do a little coaching at the theater between 5 and 6:30.

But we will get to spend some time together tomorrow night, then I head home on Friday.

Only a few more days in the rehearsal studios for Escape and then, next week, they will move to the theater. Busy times!

Rick and Doug had to be gone all day yesterday, so I stopped by their house to walk Sam and play with him a bit. He’s so adorable. We walked through the woods and to the pond, with Sam grabbing a stick for the journey. (He loves walking with a stick in his mouth.) Lots of energy, lots of tail wagging and, when the stick broke in two, he managed to get both of the sticks in his mouth for the return journey. We played with one of his toys for a while when we got back in the house. And then he licked me all over my face.

What a sweetie.

I didn’t watch the speech last night. One thing I knew for certain: a traitor to our country would do nothing but lie. And, of course, that’s what happened.

#Resist.

Happy Wednesday.

Disheartened

January 30, 2018 at 8:00 am by Claudia

I’m taking a break today. Frankly, I’m so disheartened and sickened by what happened yesterday to our democracy and the rule of law that I can’t see beyond that. Posting a pretty picture isn’t going to work today, my friends. I just need to step away. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, I urge you to get up to speed. The future of our country and our democracy may just come down to us.

And who wants to read a post full of profanities? Right?

I’ll be back.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
