Nothing prettier than the sunlight shining through a pretty pansy.
It’s Saturday and Don is going to take some photos at the Farmer’s Market today. The first time in over two years! He’s just about to leave and will be back later this afternoon.
I’m going to do a little work outside today; some pruning, some mulching, and some weed pulling.
I bought a new faucet for the sink in the cottage. I never liked the one that came with the sink. It was too tiny and was more like a bathroom faucet. This one is perfect! If you look in the background, you can see a new floor lamp for the living room. I got that a couple of weeks ago.
Finishing touches are happening at Dove Cottage. I mean, there’s a lot of tiny detail I can still add – for example, silverware in the drawers, little bits in the cupboards, etc. But that would be for me and not something you would necessarily see. I need a few more lamps and some details added to the studio and the front entrance, but that’s almost done.
Then…the Beacon Hill. Gulp.
Stay safe.
Happy Saturday.

you can do it! bishop hill, i mean. dove cottage is beautiful proof.
have fun with the gardening.
best wishes to don for a safe, successful and photo-filled day at the market!
i am happily spending lots of time with family members every day … often 10 or more hours. :) the projects here go slow, slower than i’d like, but i will always choose to be with my family over having a martha-stewart-level organized place.
i do keep working at it, though! :)
happy Ssaturday. stay safe!

Is the Beacon Hill the large house you drove a distance to purchase?
The flower is gorgeous…
Claudia says
Yes. It’s the largest house I’ve ever worked on.
Stay safe, Brenda.
Brendab says
I am so excited to see your progress, and you have the time to take your time and enjoy this project. Knowing you, it will be lovely.
Claudia says
Thank you for your kind words, Brenda.

It’s so cute! I was also noticing what looks like an umbrella stand next to the door. There are so many great pieces.
Claudia says
Yes, I got the umbrella stand a couple of years ago. I love it.
Thanks, Lynda.

I love pansies! Such a pretty color. So you will have some time to yourself?! I always look forward to when I can have the house to myself. I think woman need that. Have fun gardening! Take
care!
Claudia says
Yes, I did have some time to myself, but I ended up working outside which I would have done anyway.
Stay safe, Deb.

So pretty! You have incorporated every detail that would belong in a life sized house.
I am going to be painting my kitchen cabinets soon and am trying to decide between the same color green you used or a sage green.
Enjoy the beautiful weather!
Claudia says
Our cabinets need painting very badly! Maybe you’ll inspire me, Betsy.
Stay safe.

I love Dove Cottage. The Beacon Hill is almost too much for me to take in!
The pansies in the photo are really beautiful; look at that deep color. Lovely. You’ve made your gardens quite a wonder; so many varieties of plants and trees. I enjoy seeing them.
We were at the beach at night on Saturday; usually are never out at those hours (now that we’re old[er] people). Very different to see the changing colors of the sea with the light of day coming to an end. How I wish I could have a summer cottage for a month and just soak up that environment (my extended family had it when we were kids and you never get over that nostalgia and how much fun it was). Also saw another HUGE coastal freight train at dusk; too many cars to count; all flatbeds containing those huge containers which go on the ships; on their way, we think, to the deep-water port. Don’t know how on earth a mere two engines could lead such a long, heavy train. Fascinating.
Random, but something that ‘hit’ me this week but also when being out in the nighttime here on the weekend, which is…again…unusual for me: I miss drive-in theaters. Think of how, during all this ‘pandemic’ over the past 28 months or so, we could have gotten safely out, in the isolation and somewhat-comfort (if you have good seats and a clean windshield!) of our cars; enjoyed a movie on the big screen; bring snacks from home (back when nobody was vaccinated and it would feel risky to go inside of a snack bar at the venue). I thought of it, driving by on Saturday night, when remembering a drive-in theater from my childhood (enjoyable memories, and I can remember which movies we saw!), which is now a big strip mall with B&Noble, Michael’s, etc. I guess in Southern Calif, with land being so valuable, they couldn’t justify having all that spread-out acreage for the parked cars of moviegoers; here, every acre is a gold mine. Just another thing of too many I miss from the former decades.
Claudia says
There is a drive-in across the Hudson River in Hyde Park. Don keeps bringing it up so I suspect we’ll be visiting it one night this summer.
We tend to be very nostalgic for the simpler things these days.
Stay safe, Vicki.
Vicki says
Wow, I didn’t know they still had drive-in theaters anywhere; how fun!

Wee hidden treasures are my jam too. There’s a satisfaction knowing how complete (and secret) my doll life is. I so love your little homes!

Thank you so much, Roxie!

The cottage is looking terrific — you’re right about that faucet. It’s the perfect size!
I hope all goes well with Don’s photo shoots! Happy weekend!

Thanks so much, Jeanie.
