Peeking Inside an Abandoned (Doll)House.

August 5, 2024 at 8:15 am by Claudia

It’s almost as if it’s been empty for years. Whoever lived there moved out and left a few pieces of furniture behind, leaving us to wonder what happened.

Such an elegant chest of drawers, now sitting there in an empty room.

Is there anything left inside those drawers? If only we could get inside!

And what’s this? This was rather fancy furniture at one time. Did they chat with each other in front of a roaring fire? How many conversations were had here?

A dark and narrow stairway.

A lovely curved sofa. So strange!

Did they have to pull up stakes quickly? Was it too difficult to take all of the furniture? Or maybe it wouldn’t fit in their new abode.

And now it sits there with no chatter, no people coming in and out of the house, no ‘life.’

(This is how I feel when I peek in the windows of real life abandoned homes as well.)

Stay safe.

Happy Monday.

Dear Claudia, this tweaked all my “mini” buttons! Such mystery…. and that sense of abandonment. We can’t be everything all the time… but we want to… there is a story in everything… and little worlds beckon! And then……? And then….? Please keep going! Mini worlds are such therapy for me…a haven, a solace… a time staller……. I hope you will play with your mini worlds again! :):)

I haven’t been motivated for a while – they also cost money. Plus, the big project is upstairs and we have no a/c in that room.

      Someday.

      Stay safe, Betsy.

Yes, peeking in like that does stir one’s imagination! I wonder if you are thinking of taking up that hobby again.
Oh, and I didn’t get to comment on your last post – Love what Don’s done out there with the benches. I am sure you will enjoy it very much as the weather cools.

Oh, the unknown… literally, if walls could talk. On a tangent, I used to collect old photographs, mostly from the 1800s…and I could look at a photo and wonder…what do you do for a living, where do you live, what makes you happy, what did you have for breakfast?

Oooh, that hit a number of my freaky buttons, Claudia. My mind automatically goes to abandonment and loss and that equates to darkness for me. However, I appreciate the realistic feel of your photography, especially since you’ve said previously how difficult getting the correct shot inside a dollhouse can be.

I had to remove the sides of the dollhouse and try to angle my camera so I could capture the furniture in the rooms.

      Stay safe, Wendy.

Perhaps, the owner lived alone for years after her husbands death. They had no children so when she died the house was left abandoned. Her lovely home and things were left to remember happier times in the quiet house.

I wish you happy summer days and cool nights,
    Kaye

Okay…..I am hooked. More photos…..please. I remember snooping around in a large abandoned house upstate. It was over fifty years ago…..when I was young and foolish. It had belonged to a doctor…..there were many nooks and crannies…..an old piano and boxes and boxes of beautifully handwritten medical notes. I think I have an old photograph of the side of the house……and a spooky window reflection.

Thanks so much Claudia. You are so much fun!

Claudia, thank you for this fun post. Seeing the Petite Princess furniture again took me down memory lane. 😉
When I had my “minis” I never had a dollhouse. I used to keep them in a special box. Each piece was like a treasure to me. I enjoyed taking them out of the box and setting them up. The most special piece was the grand piano.

Your post today reminded me about a YouTube channel, Bros of Decay, I have watched occasionally. A young man from Belgium travels to various countries to explore abandoned houses and mansions. Everything is left behind from furniture and clothing all the way down to family photographs, (which he doesn’t show out of respect to the families.). It’s such a mystery as to why everything was left. There have been some gorgeous antiques in some of the places.

I’ll have to check out that channel, Denise. It sounds fascinating.

The Petite Princess furniture is the perfect scale for that house.

      Stay safe.

Love the brocade furniture. So 60s and 70s. Nice to let your imagination run wild when you decorate a doll house. Hugs, Elaine

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
