Pondering

November 2, 2024 at 8:59 am by Claudia

Most of the trees are bare now, but some of our young oaks are hanging on to their gorgeous leaves. That may change tonight – we’re going down to 28 degrees. The same for Sunday. The porch plants will make another trip inside the house. Sigh. I know I could let them go at this point, as far as the forecast goes from Monday until November 16, the nighttime temps will be in the forties. So I can have flowers until at least mid-November.

You know me. I can’t let them go if there’s a chance to save them. But I do go a bit crazy with all the plants everywhere.

Don, per usual, is always game to help me transport them.

My lord, these days are dragging by as we head to November 5th. Our goal here at the cottage is to find things to keep us busy and to talk each other down when necessary. So far, so good. We also decided to watch favorite movies for the next few evenings. Last night was Hannah and Her Sisters. We’ve yet to decide on tonight but the theme is ‘comfort.’

I’ve started We Solve Murders, by Richard Osman, and I’m really enjoying it.

A corner of the studio/office/whatever just after I straightened everything up. It’s a wee bit more cluttered now, but only a wee bit. Don has yet to clear off his desk. Ahem! I might take a stab at it today – make some piles of things and dust off the surface.

Maybe I should just call it the studio now? I’m not really doing any coaching prep there. I’m not really doing any coaching at all. Maybe I can just embrace “Studio.” Or maybe it’s just a “Glorified Cubby.” I will ponder that over this weekend while I eat some of Don’s apple pie.

Stay safe.

Happy Saturday.

Well, I stand corrected on “We solve Murders”! At first, I did not care for it, but I really enjoyed it after all. Great characters. Lesson learned: don’t judge a book so quickly!
    Have a great weekend.

That blue sky is incredible! I’m off to make Don’s pie 🍏. I discovered two cans of the frozen apple juice in the freezer. So happy about that as I can’t find it anymore in any of the grocery stores we shop at but Walmart is supposed to carry it. We shall see. You and Don enjoy your pie. Hopefully the election results will not disappoint. Hugs, Elaine

dear Claudia/Don — love the pic w/dolls — very nostalgic for me — did not have many dolls in my childhood and each one was dear to me — of course, all gone/rotted now. time, here, is speeding up it seems — holidays so close — trying to take time to enjoy the anticipation which is the best part. All our grands are either adults (what????) or teenagers which removes most of the magical elements from the holidays but we have grand plans for family gatherings. so very glad this election year is going to end soon — so hoping outcome is THE best one, God willing. stay safe/healthy

beautiful view/photo! unfortunately the temperature changes this time of year mean more decisions and work for you, but your love of and care for plants is wonderful. i don’t have to deal with that work so it might be easier for me to love the temperature see-saws, the overall colder weather and seeing trees with just little toppers of leaves (especially the red ones) way up high.

watching comfort movies sounds like a good idea, any time of year and especially now. will watch college football here today and keep reading (among other things).

for what it’s worth from me, i like the word “studio” because to me it implies both work (whether enjoyable or drudgery) and creativity. though i can knit almost anywhere, my spot for painting, writing and going through mail, etc. is a desk in my little living room, pretty much the first thing i see coming in. used to not like it there, but it is a part of my life and i like seeing something i value (creativity) out all the time. pondering is a good thing, too.

a new-to-me fabric for cross-stitching has been ordered. lower thread count means bigger x’s so am not sure i will like it, but worth $12 and a try. i don’t want to give up cross-stitching, especially gifts for my family. also, i was disappointed in myself for how quickly i got discouraged but i’m stubborn and not giving up on x-s yet.

thankfully that rash was not shingles, likely an infrequent exposure to an allergan or reaction to cheap jewelry. was told to finish the two prescriptions just in case. today is the last day … good, because it’s added ten pills to each day.

hope you, don and everyone else have a great weekend, can do only fun things, take it easy, enjoy the apple pie. and stay safe always.

Very happy that the rash was not shingles, Kathy. My sister gets shingles from stress and it’s very painful.

Glad you’re going to keep trying on the cross stitch.

      Stay safe.

        thanks, claudia.

i’m sorry that meredith has had to deal with shingles. same for two members of my family. will add meredith to prayers that shingles never come back and her stress levels go way down, too.

Yes, the anxiety is building til the election. I’m also trying to focus on home, knitting, reading and very little news. I’m watching old fun shows like Cheers and Seinfeld.
It’s a beautiful sunny day here and we have tons of leaves in the yard to rake up, so I must get busy.
    Take care

You have bare trees…ours are still mostly full of green, barely turning orangish, leaves. We did get a quick downpour about 2am….lots of clouds and sun now. I like the sound of studio…gives a more creative air! Enjoy Don’s apple pie!

I don’t know where you are but we’re in New York State and this is the time of year when the leaves disappear.

Sad to see them go, but I must say the sunlight in the house is lovely.

      Stay safe, Barrie.

My deck plants seem to be hanging on, even though it’s gotten down to 26 several times already. They are not covered. But shortly, I will be cleaning up several other scattered pots around our yard before the next rain event starts tonight. It’s time.

Rooms change over time…or rather the room’s uses change, or the occupants in my case. I can’t tell you the number of times we’ve renamed one particular bedroom lol.

    Enjoy your movies! ;)

I’m not going to chance it because if they died, I’d be pissed off as I have at least a week and a half coming up of frost-free weather.

      Stay safe, Donnamae.

Don’t blame you one bit….especially with such nice weather on the horizon. I only cleaned out the dead plants…not the live ones. ;)

My very favorite movie is “Return to Me”. My favorite Christmas movie is “A Season for Miracles”. Hope you don’t mind me putting these up there. I love the movies you and Don are watching. With Nov. 5 coming up we need all the best shows we can find. I turned in my ballot a week ago.
    Fingers crossed,
    Love,

Embrace the studio. If you start to coach again you can either change it back or coach from Claudia’s Studio.

It looks good. I have so much neatening up to do around here. I can hardly keep my head on straight for another few weeks. I’m doing the same… looking for uplifting things these days. Kamala is in town. I can’t go to the rally but hoping it goes well. I’d love to see it!

Apple crisp, hot from the oven, for dessert tonight…yum! We don’t have the leaf display that you do Back East, but I’m enjoying the colors which change daily. All the delicate plants have relocated indoors–a yearly tradition. I got some lettuce seedlings for a song, so I’m trying indoors lettuce. I can hope!

Kamala rally here was exciting and the people I met there were marvelous. Secret Service agents were awesome, happy to say.

Last minute GOTV in full force. My plan for sanity is to keep busy, celebrate all things turkey, and know that the result will take time. Fingers crossed that the young people, women and the undecided will put our MVP over the top and help all the down ballot candidates.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
