Poppies, Wildflowers & Bugs

May 30, 2018 at 8:40 am by Claudia

I showed you a picture of this little flower the other day. Some would call it a weed, some a wildflower. I was quite taken with it, but had no idea what its name was. Yesterday, I was watching one of the BBC programs from the Chelsea Flower Show and it was shown in a segment about wildflowers. It’s called Ragged Robin. Thank you, BBC!

By the way, reader Lesley tells me the BBC broadcasts 3 times a day from the Chelsea Flower Show.

I’m so jealous!

I went on a mowing tear yesterday and got it all done. Today is for running a couple of errands and weeding.

The first poppy opened yesterday morning. Here it is with part of the covering still attached.

Later in the day when the sun was very hot.

Another cameo appearance by a flying bug in this photo of a peony bud.

This morning, when I came downstairs about 6:30 am, I looked out the kitchen window to see Henry and a bunny within 3 feet of each other. That made me smile.

Nothing else to report. I’ve been working and mowing and yanking weeds and making lists before I take off for NYC tomorrow morning. I’ll be back on Sunday afternoon.

I’m so looking forward to the weekend but I get sad about leaving my garden because this is my happy place. I don’t want to miss anything!

But my sister and husband await.

Happy Wednesday.

The garden is bursting right now and will be when you return. What a great time awaits you with Meredith! The sun is peeking in and out today. Tiger will be spending the afternoon since Sara has to work but he is so much fun to spend time with. I need to get my camera out and start taking photos of all the birds I’m so enjoying. HappyDay!

It’s raining here today…thank goodness. A nice break from the 90’s. You need a break, too, from all your yard work. Even if it’s raining…hope you have a grand time with Meredith and Don! ;)

I’m always so blown away by all the yard work you do! I have about 1/3 acre and have somebody else mow, even though I have a riding lawnmower sitting in the garage *embarrassed*. But as explain to myself, I am in Texas and it’s always hot and humid, today 97, and I work all day…I’m hoping you will inspire me to do it myself.

    Have fun in NYC.

I like mowing, but even if I didn’t, the cost of paying someone is not in our budget (we’re seniors now!)

I love walking through my backyard garden. It’s not as big by any means as your “spread”, Claudia, but the hummers, bees, butterflies, and other little birds like hanging out there, so I’m happy.

So many memories to be made in the days ahead! Hope you have an absolutely wonderful time. Even missing a few days of blooms will be more than worth it to have some sister and husband time.

We are having some exquisite rain today. It is a soft and lovely shower that has been going on since about 8 AM. We needed it so badly. And, bonus ~~ don’t have to water tonight!

Have fun getting your errands run and packing finished today. And safe travels tomorrow!

I mowed the front lawn today. I could not believe how fast it had grown. My sister and I did a lot of weeding and trimming in the back yard. It still needs a whole lot more attention. Enjoy your time with Don and your sister.

Love those poppies! Ours are blooming now, too. Weeds are amazing; there are always more, aren’t there? Have fun with Don and your sis!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
