Rain, Movies & Dollhouses

July 23, 2018 at 7:53 am by Claudia

The meadowsweet flowers are turning brown. Equally striking, I think. Especially when the sun is hitting them, as it was when I took this picture.

Feast or famine. After a long stretch without any rain, we’ve got 4 days of it on the docket and, as I write this, it’s teeming down. The hydrangeas have been pummeled.

But…I must not complain. We need it.

We had brunch at Rick and Doug’s yesterday and had a lovely time – as we always do. They’ve fenced in a big part of the yard for Sam and we got to see him run like the wind, chasing a ball. Sam is so happy with his new space! He was especially glad to see Don, who has been absent from our brunches for a while.

Don and I watched Chocolat  last night via Netflix. For some silly reason, we’d never seen it. What a wonderful and magical movie! Completely enchanting. Beautiful performances by all, especially Juliette Binoche and Judi Dench.

Don goes into the city today to work with Louis Mendes. I’m going to help Rick do some plant shopping.

I haven’t done anything with the rescued dollhouse yet, but I’ve been eyeing it when I’m upstairs in the office. I’ve been saving some exterior ideas that I’ve come across on the web. I just have to make a decision. Plus, I have to figure out how to replace those parts of the house that are missing. It’s the Arthur dollhouse by Greenleaf. Greenleaf no longer provides replacement parts (drat!) and if I buy an entire kit, even a used one on eBay, then I end up with a lot of excess parts that I don’t need and don’t have room to store. So, I’m currently stalled as I try to figure out what to do. When I do start in, I’ll share it with you. I’m going to use the rainy days ahead to do more research.

Happy Monday.

rainy days aren’t just good for wildlife and plants, are they? :) they are (to me, anyway) permission to rest, read, watch a movie, nap …

    enjoy!

Yes, they are. But four in a row? I get antsy.

Oh, I’m so glad you saw Chocolat! It’s one of my all-time favorites. I used to listen to the soundtrack while I worked—loved it, too! (Hmmm, I’ll have to look that up again. It’s been too long since I heard it.)

We are also having pouring rain. I guess I’m glad…?

Chocolat is a favorite of ours! Usually watch it on Valentine’s Day – so magical! Glad you’re seeing the rain, I sure do wish we could get some in our area. Have a lovely week Claudia!

We have had some evening storms but no more hail thank goodness! Our cars are ‘dimpled’ but it’s not terrible. The birds have been so active this morning but every time I grab my camera they fly away…shy little guys I guess. Chores today and hopefully some reading later in the day. I too love that movie Chocolat! Enjoy your day and I hope the rain doesn’t put too much of a damper on things.

It’s a bit of a damper, but I’m going to run errands and contemplate the rescued dollhouse.

Glad to hear you are getting some much needed rain. Rainy days are good ones to get the indoor projects done…or not. Personally…I’d sit back and relax with a couple of good books and a movie or two. Nothing wrong with that!

I have never heard of Chocolat….(some years I’ve been known to live under a rock.) Thanks for the recommendation! ;)

Tons of storms here the last few weeks. We even had the threat of a tornado on Friday. Thankfully the storm was bad but no tornado in sight! Waiting for me deck guy ~ our build kept getting bumped back due to weather but today at the very least, the materials will be dropped off. Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny and warm. Fingers crossed.

I’m glad you’ve got a new project to work on. Can’t wait to see what you come up with for the little dollhouse you rescued.

Enjoy your Monday Claudia. Peace to you on this stormy day!

Oh, I do love the movie Chocolat. And as Shanna mentioned, the music is wonderful.

Rainy days and Mondays. We didn’t get much rain, but what we received was much needed and appreciated. Still having to water, but not twice a day for now! Many tomatoes, zukes & cukes are ripening all at once. My eggplant is also finally taking off. These are the days, my friend!! (Wow, two 60’s ~ 70’s hits in that paragraph!)

Have a good Monday and hope Don gets some good photos today. Happy plant shopping, too.

How weird! I watched “Chocolat” Saturday afternoon – I have it on DVD but haven’t watched it for a couple of years. For some reason I guess I was just in the mood. Have had the music in my head for two days now. I love how beautiful it is too – the lighting, the scenery, the costumes. The candy & the food too! I don’t know anything about moviemaking but kudos to the director, the cinematographer & the production designer. Even with the sound muted, “Chocolat” is gorgeous to look at. PS – will the newest dollhouse be another of Caroline’s homes? Or will we perhaps be meeting another character? Peace. 🌹

Chocolat is beautifully done. In every way.

I’m not sure about who the owner will be. I think I won’t be able to know that until I get some sort of plan.

Guess our three days of rain moved east. We needed it here, too. It’s party cloudy today – a good day to do yard work. But busy doing other things while Brian is still on vacation.

I love Chocolat! I haven’t watched a movie in a long time, but I’m wanting to watch Bridget Jones’ Diary again, because of finishing up Susan Branch’s book about England (A Fine Romance). Also on my list is The Tree of Life with Sean Penn and Brad Pitt. Our vet recommended that one.

It’ll be interesting to see what you end up doing with the dollhouse.

We’ve seen Bridget Jones’ Diary SO many times. We love it!

I still don’t have a plan for the dollhouse. I’m just cleaning and prepping it now.

Loved seeing your geranium and forgot to mention that. I have the same deal with my geraniums; I bring ’em in in November and let them back out in May. This year one that I thought was a goner is outdoing itself. Go figure! Have a great day!

Chocolat is a favorite of mine too! But I haven’t seen it in years. Time to pull it out when we’ve exhausted the various versions of Jane Austen productions.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
