Random Bits on a Tuesday

November 24, 2015 at 9:17 am by Claudia

• Because you often ask about her and she’s currently snoozing in the tunnel:

11-24 scoutina

Our sweet girl. Yes, I know she’s almost 17, but she’ll always be our little girl.

11-24 bible

• I brought that Bible home with me from my parents’ condo. It isn’t particularly pretty and it’s very much the worse for wear, but it was on the bookshelves in my childhood home for as long as I can remember. It was a part of the view I saw every day as a young girl. So I felt it needed a home here. (I’m going to be reviewing the latest Michael Connelly that you see on the shelf next to the Bible – The Crossing – on Just Let Me Finish This Page today. Click here.)

11-24 egg cups

• I’ve now attempted to bid on a few of the Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs egg cups on eBay. I lost out each time. Oh, so frustrating. I have a strict budget, so in a couple of cases, I simply had to stop bidding. And one time, I couldn’t be around for the end of the auction.

Waah. They rarely come up for auction. Darn it.

• I listed another scarf in the Etsy shop.

11-24 spanishmossscarfblog

Obsession scarf in Spanish Moss. You can find it here. More yarn is on the way. I’m hoping some of it will arrive by tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Update: Sold! Thank you.

• And finally, a talented filmmaker recorded Don and Dan performing a couple of Don’s songs. The videos are on their website and the link is here. Thought you might enjoy watching these two talented guys at work.

Happy Tuesday.

Is that a mouse holding a paint pallete on the top shelf of your egg cup collection? I don’t believe I have ever noticed that particular piece in your photos.

I hope your day has begun on a good note!

No, it’s a bunny rabbit, Sue. It’s one of my very favorites!

Sweet Scout looks happy in her tunnel. Charlie has taken to curling up next to me each morning as I read blogs and email. I reach out and pet him every few minutes. Just comforting. I read The Crossing and will be going over for your review. I haven’t found a new egg cup in ages but i know one will pop up when I least expect it. It’s sunny but cold today, but taking Mom out for a bit to shop. She and I both need to get out of the house for a little while. I was listening to Don’s CD yesterday and thinking I wish there was a video… smile!!
    hugs,

Scout looks very relaxed!! LOL Always love seeing your egg cups – I’ve never seen any of the Seven Dwarfs – have been keeping my eye out for them for you. Thanks for the video of Don and his friend – AMAZING. Tell Don I’m becoming one of his biggest fans. I really need to order the CD soon. That may be my Christmas gift to myself.

    Happy Thanksgiving to you three.

Oh, sweet Scout! Asleep in her tunnel where all is right with the world. Our 2 are asleep on their “pillows” after an hour and 15 minutes at the dog park. I am packing up the Fall stuff today as we had Thanksgiving on this past Sunday, so it would be nice if they would stay napping for a while!! They aren’t as helpful as they seem to think they are when they are up and about.
I thought of you yesterday when my cousin sent me pics she found in her Mom’s “stuff” of me in 1952, on my 2nd birthday. I can’t seem to be able to put them down as I stare at every detail. The pictures, after all these years, are pretty dark, so I have done a lot of squinting. Since my BD is 3 days after Christmas, I got the bonus of the tree and all the decorations in the pics, too. Such fun. I wish I still had all of those decorations!! Particularly one (what looks like) amazing bottle brush tree. I do have a few of my Mom’s smaller ones, so I know she had them. Wonder where they all ended up. Likely in the garbage as they moved. As my cousin said in her letter,,, they must have really loved their tinsel in 1952, as the tree is absolutely DRIPPING with it!! Too funny. Old pictures ARE the best!!
    Have a great day, Claudia!!

We always had arguments about hanging the tinsel. One at a time or in clumps? I got so impatient with the whole thing that I would choose clumps and my dad would get mad at me (and everyone else!)

My Mom was always a one at a time decorator. She got the tinsel all on, and then as she sat and looked at it, she would get up and rearrange some tinsel and a few ornaments. That went on until the day we took the tree down. She always said that at night, when the lights were on, and it was quiet in the house, she somehow saw it differently all the time.
I don’t do tinsel, but I know that many nights I see something differently and get up and move a few ornaments, too…. and, sigh, I do that until we take our tree down, too.
My daughter, and my DIL, rarely, if ever, even put a tree up. They are busy and don’t like all the time it takes and mess it makes. They guys surely don’t seem to care. (you KNOW how “busy” they all are…) We are all different, I guess!!

I do the same thing with my tree, Chris. Rearrange ornaments, reposition lights. This year, however, we’re just going to have the same white tree and that will be simple.

Good Morning Claudia. I enjoyed seeing the picture of a relaxed Scout this morning. She’s obviously very content there with you and Don. I also watched the videos and enjoyed them very much. Thank you for sharing with us. You are right, Don is a great musician. I LOVE music. Most all music except I can’t get into rap at all!
    Blessings,
    Betsy

I’m not a fan of rap, either! But music is one of my first loves and I’m very happy when I hear Don noodling around on his guitar!

Scout looks so peaceful! I’m glad you were able to keep the bible…fits in nicely, with all your other treasures. I read Chris K’s comment, and your response….I think our fathers all belonged to the same tinsel club! Sweet memory! ;)

I really like that song, Trouble and Joy; haunting melody/instrumentation.

Lovely, dear Scout. Getting her beauty sleep. They sleep a lot at that advanced age; I’m sure I will, too.

I look out for you on the Snow White and entourage but never see anything of them in thrift stores or antique stores. (I see NO egg cups, ever.) It must be that eBay is now the greater resource; one of these days, I’m sure you’ll strike gold.

Did you have snow this time last year; are you due?

That song is loved by a lot of people. And a couple of other musicians have also recorded it.
I’ve found a few egg cups ‘out in the wild’ but most of them have come from eBay or Etsy. Mostly eBay.

As for snow, I can’t remember about last year. We might have had one snowfall by now. We may be due, but I’m glad we are snow-free so far!

The fact that the Bible looks a little “beat up” means that it must have been well used and well loved by your parents. It’s a great book to read, and will provide you with comfort and guidance and wisdom in all situations. I love your blog….. one of the few that I read every day. Happy Thanksgiving!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
