The other day I treated myself to a little something for the dollhouse. I’d had my eye on it for over a year, checked back in and noticed it was out of stock here and there and figured I’d better get moving. With a little of my ad income, I made the purchase.
What do you think? I’ve always loved the kitchens I see in British design magazines and this so reminded me of a Smallbone kitchen that I couldn’t stop thinking of it. I already have an Aga stove, so this fits perfectly!
I was going to paint it. But then I looked at the tiny little plate rack and wasn’t at all sure I could paint around all those spindles. There’s a lot of painted furniture in this house already, so a dash of warm wood in the heart of the kitchen is a good thing. I used some wallpaper remnants at the back of the shelves to tie in with the rest of the kitchen and brighten things up.
I have to buy a faucet and I may tile the backsplash. What about a little curtain for that area under the sink?
I also played around with a shelf I had on hand, painting and aging it. It’s now over the stove – I’m going to hang some copper pans from the bottom of the middle shelf.
The kitchen table has been aged since I took this picture. So far, the kitchen is the hardest room in which to get any sort of good photo. It’s like a dark tunnel and I can’t get the lighting right. Any tips from you fellow dollhouse lovers?
One more shot of the sink and cupboards. I added some more plates.
This is the only way I’m going to get a farmhouse sink, so I might as well enjoy one in the dollhouse!
How are all of you? It’s so stinking hot and humid here that I barely leave the house. I had to run some errands yesterday, one of which was taking the trash to the town dump, ahem… recycling center. Let me tell you, the scent that was emanating from the piles of trash was especially pungent in this heat.
Happy Saturday.
Don’t forget, the Connecticut Tourism contest is still running until August 8th. Leave a comment on that post if you would like the opportunity to win $1000 toward your very own trip to this beautiful state.

Great purchase. I can’t imagine the kitchen without it. I prefer the warm wood too and definitely a curtain under the sink. Have a good weekend, Claudia.

Just LOVE the addition, right out of UK country Living where Smallbone, Chalon etc. show all those amazing kitchens. A friend in London did the most beautiful Smallbone kitchen a few years back – I’ve never seen anything so awesome. Then entire house was lovely but that kitchen was a dream come true and I could have lived in it!!!!!!
Yes, a little curtain under the sink – something to resemble a linen kitchen towel with a stripe perhaps – and tiling the backsplash would be fabulous.
Your dollhouse is absolutely beautiful Claudia.
Hope the weekend cools off for you – we’ve got the same stinky weather pattern here.
Hugs – Mary

LOVE your dollhouse, Claudia, your photos look like a real house! And I’d love to live in it!… just beautiful, all that you are doing. We have a farmhouse sink and love it… definitely put a curtain underneath yours.

I love your doll house, and there were moments looking at the photos when I forgot that it was miniature. Oh those pink kitchen chairs, if only I could paint mine that color for the summer….
Have you thought of a light source coming from the kitchen window? A translucent paper covering a flashlight or something like that?

What company did you purchase your sink and shelf from? I just love it.

I wanna’ live in that house!!!!
I’ve always wanted an AGA and a farmhouse sink, too.
By the way, I’m keeping you and your dogs in my thoughts. We have one of our chows declining quickly from age and cancer. We’re gonna’ have to put her down soon.
Have a great weekend.
Hugs,
Meri

Your doll house is just wonderful! I went back and looked at your photos of when you first got it, and you have done so much work! It is really special. I really love the pink kitchen chairs, and would love them in my own kitchen. And a farm sink and Aga stove. Oh my! I think a little skirt below the sink would be darling.

Love it. I always want to move into doll houses. Yours is so cozy and inviting. Some day I’ll share photos of the dollhouse hubby and I built and decorated for Amanda when she was young (not that it’s nearly as nice as the ones I see in blogland nowadays!). Terribly hot here, too. Although I’m not looking forward to summer ending, I am looking forward to the temperatures cooling as fall approaches… Donna

It is adorable and that is the only way I could have a Smallbone kitchen.

Hi Claudia – I LOVE your kitchen. I was out antiquing a while ago and found some dollhouse furniture and thought of you. It really wasn’t your style – very Victorian – heavy and dark so I gave it a miss.
It is hot as Hades here today. Sitting in the A/C but have to go out next and water my poor garden and get groceries. Then off to my sister’s pool – can’t wait. J

Claudia, I almost hold myself back from looking at your blog because it makes me want to dust off the dollhouse in my garage that I found at a thrift store years ago and start “playing house.” I know once I get started, I’ll be hooked!!!!
Where did you get the sink and above-sink rack???? Love them!!!

Your dollhouse is beautiful! I also love the plate rack piece. I have had my eye on one from hBS for awhile now. But have to concentrate on the contest I am doing before I even think about getting it. Your house looks so much like one that I would like to live in!

Oh Claudia, this house is just perfect, and so cosy.
I love the feeling of country,-your rosy wall paper, the Aga, and the wonderful sink.
You must be so happy decorating this lovely house, making it look just as you love ,-and want it to.
Thankyou for showing- I love to follow this wonderful project of yours.
Hugs to you.

I love your new addition! The kitchen is adorable. I would put a solid “backboard” behind the shelf unit above the stove.

Love the new kitchen pieces! What you could do is paint the lower cabinets, and leave the worktops and the plate rack the lovely wood colour. Very English as well.
When I take photos of my dolls house I often have a table/desk lamp positioned close to the window to let in extra light. Sometimes I also use a flaslight as an extra accent light.
With the heat you are having I don’t think you would want an AGA in your real kitchen. I am the happy owner of one, but of course the climat I live in only makes the radiating heat uncomfortable 2 or three weeks a year on average.
I hope your heatwave ends soon!

Your dollhouse is absolutely georgous!! It looks like a real home – but then, of course, it is. Makes me want to get mine out of storage and work on it.

What a fun post! I love seeing updates on your dollhouse, and this remodel is great. I love the shabby aging you did on the wall shelf and the pink chair–so cute! Sounds like the Aga would cause misery if it was life-size and in your house. I’ve been inspired to do a lot of decorating in my new dollhouse too. I’ve got color on the walls, and I did some “shabbifying” of the furniture. It’s still a work in progress, but I’m having a great time!
It reached 99 degrees here today. To keep the house cool, we’ve been living in a darkened “cave.” Tomorrow it’s supposed to be 91–yikes! Still very hot! Thanks for this fun post, and stay cool! xo Jennifer

What a perfect little addition to your dollhouse kitchen, Claudia. I don’t think I would have been able to paint it either. Hot and humid her, too, but we expect it in the south. I hope it cools off soon for your trips to the “recycling” center.
Hugs,
Laura
