Restless

August 4, 2018 at 10:12 am by Claudia

I had to search for some recent photos for you; we’re on our 4th or 5th day of rain, so it’s been almost impossible to find any pockets in the day where I could take my camera outside. Don and I let out a big old primal scream this morning. We’re sick of rain.

(I hope I don’t have to say that of course we know there are many of you who long for rain. Just as we long for a bit of dry weather. We feel for everyone but we can only react to our current reality.)

Anyway. Yesterday was rather a blue day. I’m not sure exactly why, but rain and gray skies and being stuck in the house and feeling not at all able to concentrate on anything played a part. Restless and blue. There are days I really feel the absence of Escape to Margaritaville  and all it meant to us, emotionally, spiritually and financially. Yesterday was one of those days and today is, as well. There’s nothing we can do about it and we’re doing our best to move forward but it is a huge loss and there’s no other way to put it.

Let’s look at some bees.

I’m heartened to know there are so many bees around here. We need them. I try to plant flowers that attract pollinators. When the big blue morning glories start to bloom, the bees will be hanging out over there, crawling inside, spending the night, getting drunk on pollen.

Happy Saturday.

Yes, we are restless, too. But the sun is shining for us , today. It’s almost blinding after so many days in the dark! So many things need to be done around here, so I decided to ignore them and start another rag rug, the first in a looooong time. And, working with fabric will keep my cold, wet fingertips dry in the ever-present humidity, which is defining this 2018 summer! (Too bad we didn’t buy ferns this year, they would have loved it, here.)

The sun just came out! I’m so excited! Have fun with your rag rug, Shanna!

BTW, the fern I have on the porch is thriving!

Beautiful pictures! We’ve had only two days without rain since July 16 here in the SC lowcountry. The other day we got over five inches of rain in under two hours. Roads and yards have flooded and trees have come down due to water saturated roots. Today we’ve had a few showers but the sun is out for now. I’m pretty sure we’re sending all this rain up to you. The good news is we might get a few days to dry out before another batch of rain. I’m so ready for the rain to end. I hope it ends soon for you too.

Oh goodness! That’s a LOT of rain! It’s always so sad when trees come down from too much rain. I hope you get a breather soon, Laura!

Too many days of the rain can make us all cranky. Add that to other emotional changes in your lives and a Primal Scream sounds about right. I’m finally feeling a bit better from this cold but still taking it easy. I don’t bounce back like I use too it seems. Age is real thing!! Hugs to you and Don.

I always think I’d like days of rain so I can curl up with a book and mug of coffee but the dream is always better than the boring reality of wet weather impeding progress of any sort. Glad you finally have sun. Go make the most of that.

We have sun but it’s so humid that I can’t do any work outside. Grateful for the sun. I’ll just have to stay inside! (After I run to the grocery store.

if man ever finds a way to give blessed rain to those of us with cracked and brown and heat parched land just waiting for a flame to ignite… with those of you who are just soul~sick of too much of it and especially the areas that are flooding…
if he ever were to fix those two issues… he would have done well!

loved your drunken overnight bees! LOL! xo

I hear you. When the going gets tough, try to focus on the good health you both are blessed with. That may help immensely. Hang in there!

We focus on the positives – not just health – all of the time! That doesn’t preclude, however, going stir crazy.

I can no better understand all the rain the East coast is getting, than, I can understand the western US going up in flames. A primal scream definitely sounds justified.

It’s really hot and humid here today…just went out to water, and it’s stifling. I hope this is summer’s last hurrah…but somehow I doubt it. Enjoy your day! ;)

Hot and humid here – the sun is out, thank goodness, but I wish the humidity would LEAVE. We’ve had more this summer than we’ve had in the 13 years we’ve lived here. I have to water soon!

I think a lot of us are feeling restless – Summer lasts too long in Fla. – a week of rain left floods and mosquitoes. Our city provided huge piles of free sand & sandbags for citizens. I don’t know why Government is hated so much. Governance is just people joining forces for order & the larger good…but also with restrictions by a free press and good Auditors to keep it honest. Rick Wilson (Republican Strategist frequently on cable news), spoke locally this week — he is very cynical about our politics and thus our democracy. This will not be over after mid-terms or 2018. Look to the Supreme Court as our next nemesis. So given my state of mind, I think the weather is just an excuse to feel crabby and frustrated and injured.

I love Rick Wilson – did you get the chance to hear him in person, Eileen?

As I have said before…I love your pictures of flowers with bugs and bees in them!…This is our first day without any chance of rain this week…it is still a bit hot but the humidity is much lower..That means I will be outside this evening watering any plant that happens to need it as I have so many in pots…We are to have a break from the rain for a few days so let’s hope that is true!…good luck getting your needed break too!

We have had a lot of rain, too. Not the normal thunderstorms that pop up, but days of dreary, gray, rain-all -day rain. We had some sun this morning, but it’s looks like it is ready to pour now. And our humidity was 90% this morning. While I am thankful we are not in a drought, it does make it easy for a person to feel blue when one hasn’t seen the sun much in a couple of weeks in the middle of summer.

dealing with loss is hard! i am glad if you let yourselves feel all those feelings, find comfort as you will and know that better things are ahead.

as much as i love rainy days (a lot), i understand that restless feeling … it’s no fun. hope the humidity drops soon for everyone’s sakes and you can get out to do what you want.

love the flower photos, especially the one with the bee in flight. hope bees are making a comeback.

hope you all enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
