There is an occasional series of prompts called “A Doll a Day” on my Blythe IG account. It’s a lot of work for the woman who does it and she really challenges us. I rarely take part, but for this ADADJanuary, I’ve posted for the first six days of January. Go figure! I love seeing what other Blythe photographers come up with. This picture resulted from the prompt “Six words.”
My six were: Can’t stand. My head’s too big.
And that, my friends, is a fact and the reason we invest so much time posing the girls using various methods; stands, and all sorts of invented contraptions to hold them upright without you seeing them. I use skewers a lot and they usually do the trick.
Saturday. Cloudy and dark but no rain in the forecast, so that’s a step in the right direction. I’ve abandoned Chuck Wendig’s The Book of Accidents. Not that it wasn’t good, but it didn’t grab me enough at this point in time to stay with it. Adding to that, it’s a library book and I’m very aware that I’ll be away in NYC for four days this week and two days the next and it’s over a thousand pages and very heavy. So…it goes back to the library until I’m in the mood again. I decided to read a book I’ve had around here for a while: State of Terror by Louise Penny and Hilary Rodham Clinton. I have the paperback version, so it’s light and I can chuck it into my tote bag when I travel into the city on Wednesday. I read chapter 6 of War and Peace yesterday. I’m quite liking it so far. Tolstoy’s gift for describing place and character is formidable.
I’m taking a break from puzzles for a couple of reasons; I’ve been doing them constantly for months and the fact that I didn’t want to finish the sky in the last one was an indicator it was time to pause, and I don’t want to spend any extra money right now. Even though they’re relatively inexpensive, I complete them fairly quickly and the cost adds up. I’m fine with it. I’m also really enjoying reading right now and that seems to be capturing most of my attention, along with the work I’ll be doing next week.
Laundry today. I still haven’t cleaned up the office, so I think I’ll finally tackle that.
Stay safe.
Happy Saturday.

Happy Saturday Morning! I can only do so much with puzzles with my back — they take far longer than I sometimes like to have them up! And yet I love doing them. I’ll start my annual winter one once Christmas is taken down, more or less.
I just finished a Susan Elia Macneal mystery and now trying to decide between the Rickman diaries, a bioof the Queen ora bio of Eleanor Roosevelt. All are thick ones. I’m leaning toward the Rickman.
Have a mellow weekend. We had friends for dinner last night, today I have two MRIs back to back and then possibly take out with friends and Sunday the grans come. And on Monday — I rest!
Claudia says
Hope your MRIs went well, Jeanie.
I started the Rickman diaries – they’re very terse so far. I’m not riveted, but that could change.
Stay safe, Jeanie.

I liked State of Terror. Let us know what you think, please.
Claudia says
I will.
Stay safe, Shanna.

your book plan sounds good. i’ve heard only favorable things about the one you plan to bring to nyc.
best wishes on the office work (not fun in a small space, i know).
hopefully you’ll get some sunshine soon. yesterday, it was only 33 degrees here, but it looked and felt like spring … beautiful blue sky, patches of green grass with some small skiffs of snow, birds chirping … lovely! i hope that weather comes your way.
chores ahead for me, too, so best i get going.
happy, safe saturday to everyone!
kathy

Thanks so much, Kathy.

I really enjoyed State of Terror…in paperback, it should be the perfect solution for you…lightweight and engaging, Hope you enjoy it.
I didn’t realize that the girls’ heads were so large they couldn’t stand without help. You have to be pretty ingenious to pose them.
I was transplanting big plants yesterday…a back breaker for sure. Hard to kneel…hard to get up after kneeling…aging is not for wimps. But, it’s done, and everybody is happy in their new pot. And my back is no worse for wear.
Enjoy your day! ;)
Claudia says
I’m happy to hear your back is okay. Mine is a little sore because I cleaned up the office and vacuumed, etc.
It will be fine.
Stay safe, Donnamae.

You have a busy week ahead, Claudia; I hope the weather is friendly when you travel. We’ve been getting a lot of rain here in Southern California; welcomed, although a little scary now as to when it might be too much as other storms head our way. Most of our local beaches were closed Thursday and yesterday-Friday due to high waves; was thrilling to see (of course I was there, since my husband and I have our places we go when it comes to the beach!); and the curious thing of ‘sea foam’ like I never remember seeing, like mounded soap suds on the sand. We get so excited over ‘weather’ here in general since we’re usually mired in drought. But it’s all such a good distraction for me right now as I’m totally upset with a lot that’s in the news/headlines (Washington; murders; virus; etc.).
Claudia says
I do. I’m somewhat dreading it. It will be exhausting with all the travel. But it’s a job!
Stay safe, Vicki.

Oh, my, Harper looks like a stubborn 2year old who refuses to get up and walk, bless her little heart. How do I find you on Instagram, Claudia? Would love to follow your Blythe doll account. Enjoy your weekend. I’m sure you’re gearing up for your busy week ahead. Travel safe. Hugs, Elaine

Hi Claudia, our local libraries have jigsaw puzzles that you can check out. Their used book shops also sell great gently used puzzles for 1 to 2 dollars. Maybe you could check with them about adding that service if they don’t do it already.
I so enjoy you blog and follow regularly.
Claudia says
I don’t think my local library has jigsaw puzzles, but I’ll check.
Thanks so much, Leora.
