Pretty porch views from this very morning.
It’s a lovely day. Right now, it’s about 72 degrees which would be a perfect high for the day. But it’s going to be about 88 degrees, so there you go. Nevertheless, it wasn’t nearly as humid this morning as it was yesterday morning. As we sat on the porch for our second cup of coffee we were greeted with birds singing, sunlight, and a slight breeze.
Both of us were outside yesterday spraying water on the whiteflies. Don insisted on helping me, which was much appreciated. He also mowed the lilac side of the lawn. We did a lot outside and by the end of the day we were so tuckered out that we deliberately watched a movie that we knew was going to be laughably bad: The Brain that Wouldn’t Die found on TCM On Demand.
Oh my heavens. It really was one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. I won’t even go into the plot, what little there was. It was so amateurish – and that’s not being fair to most amateur filmmakers who would do a much, much better job of it – that we were laughing out loud for most of the movie.
Also from this morning: a spotlight on the hydrangeas.
I finished When Will There Be Good News? this morning. Kate Atkinson is such a good writer! And now I’m starting on the next, Started Early, Took My Dog (perhaps my favorite book title ever.) I put a hold on two others through our inter-county library system; her first Jackson Brodie mystery, Case Histories, and her newest, Big Sky, which was just published.
Don’s off to take some portraits. I’m going to do a little gardening and weed whacking. But not too much, as my allergies continue to be a pain in the tush.
I hope all is well with you.
Happy Saturday.

Pineapple contains a mixture of enzymes, bromelain, that systematic reviews/studies have shown to be helpful in relieving symptoms of acute nasal & sinus inflammation.
You can purchase bromelain tablets/capsules or increase your daily intake of pineapple.
Fresh pineapple will also yield the same effects of bromelain tablets/capsules, you simply have to eat quite a bit each day.
I was skeptical of the efficacy of bromelain in relation to alleviating the nasal & sinus inflammation of allergies, BUT tried it in capsule form and it worked for me.
Have recommended it to others who suffer from seasonal allergies, including my 86-yr old mother, and those who were willing to give it a go found relief. My mother uses the capsules/tablets when fresh pineapple isn’t readily/inexpensively available. When fresh pineapple is plentiful, she cuts out the capsules & eats fresh pineapple and the nasal/sinus inflammation due to seasonal allergies is kept at bay.
You can purchase bromelain tablets/capsules at Whole Foods, health food stores, and online.

Thanks so much for the information, Amy!

Your garden looks wonderful in full bloom at the moment! Sorry that your allergies continue to trouble you.
It’s early evening here, I’ve just looked at the long range forecast for the rest of the month, it’s staying in the 60s with a top temperature of 68!
We seem to be settling in a pattern of light rain in the mornings and improving as the day goes on. A bonus is that is doesn’t start to go dark during the summer until after 10:00 pm, around the Solstice it’s still light 10:45 pm
I love my garden at night, it may be a little kitsch but I have colourful fairy lights running along the fences, with glass globes in the flower beds that also change colour and tiny white lights over the archway along the path way. They’re all solar powered but I have to wait until about 11:00 pm for the full effect !
Happy Saturday

I envy your cool temperatures, Dee Dee. We’re in a pattern of high eighties/low nineties. It isn’t fun!
Happy to hear you’re enjoying your garden at night! Sounds lovely!

I love that title, too. I’m terrible with titles, but that didn’t matter in the past. My publishers in both the U.S. and Germany nixed mine and went with their choice, except for the last one. (This is common in the writing world, as is writers having little input into their book covers.) I hope you enjoy your day today and allergy symptoms decrease.
Claudia says
Yes, I’ve read that authors don’t have a lot of say in those areas! Thanks, Linda!

Have a good week end. Take it easy in this heat.

Looks like your hydrangeas are standing upright again and looking so beautiful. All your porch pots look great. It’s just such a terrific retreat. Hope your allergies ease up. The heat certainly doesn’t show any sign of easing, but I keep reminding myself this is what I dream about in mid-February.
Claudia says
Yes. Good point! We must remember that even though it’s hot, it’s what we were waiting for!

Sometimes a good laugh is the best medicine for sure. My family has been gone for two weeks on vacation and will be back late tomorrow. I will be so glad to see them. My allergies are a bit better but oh my they are wearing me out!

You must miss everyone!

what a wonderful post and comments!
was thrilled to hear about the Bromelain for allergies. thank you to Amy!
natural remedies are the best! at least for me they are. I love pineapple. but if I eat too much of it my mouth burns.
the BEST dessert I’ve ever had was at the Petroleum Club in Dallas. it was called Ports o Call.
it was deceptively simple. and an odd name in that land locked city!
I confess I ordered it because of the name. lol.
it came in a little silver footed bowl. one scoop of vanilla ice cream. over that was pineapple…
cut into pieces with its natural juice… over that a strizzle of chocolate syrup… and over the top a sprinkle of flaked coconut. it was served with an incredibly thin waffle style cookie.
was it the night? with the lights of Dallas below us? or the fact that I looked into my beautiful Bob’s eyes and was so totally in love? I don’t know! LOLOL.
but I fix it for myself every now and then as a special treat. the combination of flavors is unbelievable. and it magically takes me to that Port o Call in my own favorite memories.
we’re under the ‘heat dome’ again this summer. dangerous and excessive heat and high humidity!
it makes books more than just books… they are little life savers! at least to me.
I like that title too. will have to check it out. the pictures today just water my thirsty soul! :D
Claudia says
That dessert sounds scrumptious!
Heat dome here as well! Stay inside Tammy!

72º. Yes that would be the perfect high for the day. Also cloudy so it would be much more comfortable to do yard work. It will get muggy here again today. I usually don’t do much in muggy weather. Probably just some smocking and light puttering.
Claudia says
Me too. In fact, I’m staying indoors today!
