You may think me a voyeur, but I can’t help it. I’m always curious about Caroline’s activities. She is, after all, living under the same large roof as Don and me. Speaking of roofs, what did I see yesterday?
Hmmm….let’s zoom in a bit.
Aha! When the story on her house was published in American Miniaturist, Caroline seemed rather blasé about the whole thing, which made my reaction look over the top. I offered her a copy of the magazine. She declined. No more was said on the subject.
Apparently Caroline is a bit more excited than she let on. This rather well-thumbed copy of the magazine is sitting on the wicker ottoman, right where Caroline spends hours basking in the summer sun.
So: we have new sea shells on the coffee table:
And a new magazine. Could Caroline have purchased it while away on her vacation? One wonders.
Not that I’m spying or anything.
Your obligatory flower photo:
The hydrangea that I planted last year keeps blessing us with vividly colored flowers. I wondered if the original color would be the same after it had been planted in our soil, but it is.
The limelight hydrangea at the front of the house is starting to turn a soft pink. Happens every Autumn.
Don: Read No Further!
I finished the other side of the Top Secret Project yesterday.
The exterior has been covered with board and batten.
I added a coat of Matte Varnish by Delta Ceramcoat. I just may add one more coat today. Then it’s on to the inside. There’s some priming that needs to be done.
Happy Monday.

I love Caroline’s wicker set! Just the thing for a summer afternoon. Now I am wondering where she went to get those shells also! If you find out, let us know. I love the new studio you are working on.
Claudia says
I’ll keep on sleuthing, Tana!
Wendy TC says
My poor hydrangea needs to be dug up and replanted. The pines on the other side of the fence have grown such a thick canopy so that part of the yard is too shady. We’re trying to save it and the Japanese maple that lives near it when we re-landscape for drought-tolerance. And now the swirling rumors of a very wet El Niño winter.
Claudia says
Another potential extreme weather condition, Wendy. Although, you can certainly use the moisture! Just not too much of it.

Hi Claudia! I am so impressed by the color you have chosen for Don’s Studio! It looks like it would rev up the spirit regardless of any weather conditions outside. As of last Friday, we experienced a couple of terrific windstorms followed by steady rains. And after the driest summer on record here on the west coast of Canada, we have quite suddenly moved into what feels like the middle of a blustery wet Autumn. Either Feast or Famine! We have certainly needed the rain but not all at once!
And so it is lovely to see that Caroline is still able to be outside in the warm sun, and sit and relax in her favorite chair to read about her very charming abode, in one of the world’s most well-respected doll’s house magazines and it is a good thing too, that you are able to check up on her periodically to tell us ( her fans), all about it! :))
Claudia says
Isn’t that always the way? Feast or famine! Stay nice and dry, Elizabeth. Gosh, I wish we could sit down together for a cup of tea and talk about miniatures and all sorts of things!
I try to check up on Caroline…but I have to wait until she’s otherwise occupied!
Frog Hollow Farm Girl says
Hi, I giggled when I read about Caroline and her disinterest in the magazine…you are developing a great character with her….so much fun to read about. The secret project is impressive! Such detail and so neat. I haven’t begun my dollhouse yet, I have been playing around with watercolor paints. xxoo
Claudia says
Playing around with watercolor paints is a good thing to do, my friend!
Nancy in PA says
Is Caroline a bit of a diva? Just wondering…..
The mini-man-cave looks fantastic. Do you remember those cool drawings that Don made some time ago? I think they were done with markers and were somewhat architectural in nature. Perhaps you could miniaturize those to use as wall art in the studio?
Well, I just found that post: https://mockingbirdhillcottage.com/2012/04/playing-with-markers/
I so look forward to your blog every day, Claudia. I know I sound like a broken record ….. your photography just amazes me.
Claudia says
That’s a neat idea, Nancy. I’ll definitely put it on my list of things to add to the studio – at least one of them. And of course, we might have to have a Beatles poster…as Don is a HUGE fan!
Nancy in PA says
Yes, of course! And maybe a miniature of that Beatles lyrics sign that you have over your piano.
What fun it will be for you to decorate his little space.
Claudia says
xo
Nancy Blue Moon says
What great ideas Nancy in PA has given you today..I’m sure Don would love those things…Oh what fun it is going to be when he finally gets to see it all..Love Caroline’s tiny American Miniaturist magazine!
Claudia says
She’s clearly been thoroughly reading it, Nancy!
Chris K in Wisconsin says
Oh, what fun! Love that you found Caroline out ~ reading the magazine she feigned no interest in!! The art-work ideas are great ones! I know you will have so much fun when you reach that point. Hope you are having a good last day of August….. now, how did THAT happen??
Claudia says
The summer went by much too quickly, Chris! Although the temps are going to be in the low nineties all week here, so summer is definitely still with us!
Chris K in Wisconsin says
Very hot & humid here this week, as well. I have to say that I am happier to have yet another week of that ~~ rather than in March or April to have yet another week of zero or below and more snow. I don’t react quite as calmly or happily at that time… I know you likely feel the same!! :-)
Donnamae says
Guess curiosity got the best of Caroline…I thought she might cave-in! And you are going to have great fun decorating the man-cave…especially with all the ideas that your readers sent. Enjoy! ;)
Susan Swartz says
I could move right into Caroline’s house. It gets cuter by the week!
Claudia says
You’ll have to line up behind Don and me, Susan!
jo(e) says
I love these glimpses into the dollhouse!
Barbara W. says
The little magazine is just perfect!
Nancy Moreland says
So glad Caroline was able to get a copy of American Miniaturist and the secret project is looking good!
hugs
Claudia says
Thanks, Nancy!
Debbie Price says
Maybe Caroline didn’t want to appear boastful about the article. We all know that deep down she was as excited as the rest of us. When you do talk to Caroline again, let her know that I am in love with the fabric on her sofa. I wish my sofa had such a lovely fabric!
Wouldn’t it be nice if a real studio was that easy to put together? Love the colour!
Have a wonderful day!
Claudia says
I love that fabric, too. I wish I had in my real-sized house.
