Good morning! I’m still on a bit of a high from seeing and spending time with my friend Jim on Thursday night. It’s sunny today and after a bit of rain last night, the oppressive heat and humidity have left, thank you very much. I’m not too happy when it’s so darn hot that I can’t do anything outside. The grass needs mowing, the weeds need whacking, the garden needs weeding.
In one of those little garden miracles that happen every day, a tall weed that I passed every day and ignored and which was nestled up against the chicken wire fence in the dog corral, turned out to be:
A purple coneflower! It’s just by sheer luck that I hadn’t yanked it. Thank you to who or whatever caused this flower to seed in this particular spot. Maybe a bird? Speaking of birds, there was a female cardinal in the birdbath yesterday, but I couldn’t snag my camera in time. So I simply enjoyed watching her.
The tiger lilies are blooming down by the road. I see them everywhere around here and they are one of my favorite summer sights.
Scout is getting better. Slowly. Her eyes have stopped darting back and forth. The problem has been getting her to eat. She obviously feels nauseous still and turns her nose up at most everything I offer her but peanut butter. But by the afternoon yesterday, I was worried enough to call the doctor who prescribed some medicine to jumpstart her appetite and a round of antibiotics as well. We also went back and bought some cans of A/D which I’ve used before when I’ve had a sick doggie.
We were so happy when she scarfed the A/D down. It’s hard to see my agile little girl stumble and feel fearful about jumping up on the sofa. But her balance is still off and will be for a while. Between Scout and Riley, my hands are full.
Don’s birthday is tomorrow. And on Monday he leaves for Connecticut where he will be part of a musical theater workshop that goes on over a 10 day period. (We have, between the two of us, worked in Connecticut 3 times this year.) Then he comes back for a couple of weeks and leaves again for the Berkshires, where he will be in another production. And in the fall, he’s booked a play down in Florida. His acting work is really taking off again and we are so grateful.
And finally, Sandra, a reader of MHC, bought one of my Crochet Flower Garlands and sent me this photo:
It looks great, Sandra! Don’t you love that shot of aqua? I love it. Thank you for sharing this with me.
(I am having the worst time with Blogger’s editor today. Wonky spacing, weird things in the html.)
Have a great Saturday.

Early Happy Birthday to Don and so glad he is getting more work in his field. I fear we will be gone from Florida by the time he gets here, but where will he be performing?
Poor Scout, sounds like she is back on the right track, but its so hard with a sick pet because they are so stoic.
Have a nice weekend.

I remember when our dog, Peppy, got old and sick and had to be put down. Hubs couldn’t do it. So I called the City pound and a lady came to get him, took him away and was so kind to him. Hubs got home that night and bawled and bawled. He absolutely adores animals. I think he cried more for his pup than he did when he grandma died. Anyway, it was terribly sad and I told him I’ll never do that again so unless you are ready to accept that responsibility, no more pets. He’s never asked for one again. It was emotionally draining for me also. I couldn’t do it again either.
Sounds like things are looking up financially/work-wise around the cottage now. Good luck with all the work, sugar!
xoxo,
Connie

Oh, I’m so sorry your Scout has been sick. Our golden retriever puppy has been sick this week too. He is finally better after a shot and able to hold down his antibiotic. Today, he’s eating and running in the yard.
I love the garland.

Ooops, I forgot to mention the wonkiness of blogger is affecting me also. I’m working off a template and it even messes that up sometimes. I keep having to go back and “FIX” things a few times with the template sometimes, not always. I have no clue what is doing it, but it’s the photos that won’t display until I go back in and delete some HTML it added to the URL of the photo. Ugh!!! Frustrating, to say the least.

I’m so glad you got Scout to eat! That’s sure progress. And I’m very pleased that Don’s career is taking off again, after a brief lull. You know I’ll be wanting a red one of those!

Happy Birthday to DOn. So glad that his acting is picking up now. That has to be a good sign. Glad Scout is starting to eat. Poor baby.
I had wanted to order the garland a couple weeks back and then forgot. Love the color.
Hope your week-end is going well.

Happy b’day to Don! Glad Scout is better, I know that makes your life much more pleasant.
Next year, with any luck, you’ll have many more of the coneflowers. Dontcha looooove it when flowers just “happen”. Hooray for low maintenance perennials; lotsa color and little work.

I’m so glad Scout ate, whatever it was. I did not understand the short form you used. So glad for you and Don that his acting career is picking up.

Claudia — so glad your pup is better and on the mend.
It’s hot here too. Glad to know Don’s work has picked up. Sounds exciting. The purple cone flower is pretty. I planted some sun flowers to grow for the chickens,…the scratched all but two of those suckers out of the ground. I finally noticed flower heads on them the other day. If they bloom to maturity– I hope to harvest the seeds FOR THE CHICKENS. Silly chicks…don’t know a good thing when they see it.

So happy to hear that Scoutie is eating, Claudia. I know that is a relief for you. Your flowers are looking beautiful and I am sure they will appreciate the cooler weather. Way too hot and humid here. We have to water the garden twice a day.
