The Launch

July 7, 2014 at 7:44 am by Claudia

Today marks the launch of my new book blog.

(I’m very excited!)

This love of mine for all things reading and books has been a part of this blog for a long time. Because reading is one of my passions, it couldn’t help but leap onto the virtual pages of Mockingbird Hill Cottage. And it will still be a presence here. In fact, I have a book review slated for tomorrow. But since this blog reflects my daily life, it is an eclectic mix of topics and no one topic can predominate.

That’s what got my brain percolating. Why not a blog devoted to the passion that I have had since I first learned to read as a little girl? I guess you can say that, in terms of passions or hobbies or things I love to do, reading has reigned the longest. Reading is the Queen of my life.

So I’ve designed and launched this new blog.

It’s called Just Let Me Finish This Page. (Click on the link.) I chose that title in honor of all the times I was late for dinner or for starting a chore because my head was buried in a book. When Mom called, “Dinner!” I would respond with, “Just let me finish this page!” A few minutes later, she would say it again, “Claudia, I said it’s time for dinner.” “Okay Mom, just let me finish this page…” And on it would go until she put her foot down and I had to put the book aside.

This is for you, Mom. I got my love of reading from you. Thank you. I miss you.

The new blog is just that. New. I haven’t added a navigation menu and won’t until I know more about the direction it will take. But since there’s only one post so far, I don’t think you need to navigate anything!

I’m proud of the look and feel of the blog.

I hope you like it, too. Please stop by and visit. You can subscribe via email. You can add it to your bookmarked sites. There is also a link to Just Let Me Finish This Page on this blog’s sidebar.

Come on over!

Happy Monday.

How fun Claudia! I visited your lovely new blog early this morning, could not wait for the unveiling – TKAM is a much beloved favorite of mine too.

Although I’m a slow plodding reader, I adore books too. I also found my love of them through my mother. She’d take me to the library all the time when I was small and one of my favorite memories is getting my first, very own, library card. I was so excited!

Looking forward to following along with you and sharing your love of books.

    Happy Monday!

Congratulations on the new blog! My all time favorite novel is Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy. I first read it when I was 11 or 12, far too young to understand and I remember throwing the book aside when I got to the suicide. The second time I read it I must have been in college and I remember being very critical of the choices made, especially by the women. The third time I read it, was nearly 20 years ago and I think I finally got it, especially when Levin realized that happiness comes from outside ourselves. I think it is time for a fourth reading.

Debbie, I love your comment. It speaks to the wisdom we gain as we get older. If you have time, can you also leave it on the book blog? I’d love for other commenters who are leaving comments about their favorite books to be able to see your comment.

Claudia, my son loved to read. He still does. However, Nintendo happened, and the refrain became “I just have to get to the next level.” Apparently, all of the gamer’s “work” is forfeited if he or she stops playing before beating the boss. Now my son has a degree and a career in video game design now, but I have to say that Nintendo was a mixed blessing for many years.

When I was eight, I was allowed to ride my bicycle to the library in town, by myself. It was three miles away. Can you imagine anyone allowing their child to do that nowadays? Someone would call Children’s Services.

    But I digress.

My standard operating procedure was to borrow as many books as I could possibly fit into my bicycle basket. Then I would ride home (mostly uphill, going back), take my treasure inside and begin reading. Thanks for prompting a great memory.

Congratulations on the new blog. I count myself lucky to be a charter subscriber.

I remember riding my bike for miles when I was a kid. A more innocent and safe time, for sure. Nothing better than a fresh stack of books to read, Nancy!

Once I sat down and really worked on it, I got it going pretty quickly. Redoing this blog earlier in the week helped. I’m using the same theme on the book blog, so I knew what to do and how to tweak it.

I just visited your new blog and love it already. The name you have chosen brought a smile to my face. I love the quotation you chose as well. Now if I could just choose my favorite book. I’ve found in recent years that I enjoy series because you get to know the characters so well.

I like series as well. It’s fun to chart the growth of the characters over the course of the series. Thanks!

I just left a lengthy comment on your lovely new blog. I must tell you how baffled I am by advice on how to decorate bookshelves. What’s to decorate? They’re filled with books!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
