I woke up early this morning, even before Don. Then he woke up and we chatted a bit and when I looked at the clock, I saw it was 5:30 am. Which means I was awake at 4:30 am.
Not. Enough. Sleep.
I don’t do well on ‘not enough sleep.’
Lord knows if I’ll make it through the Oscars tonight.
Don and I chatted about the Oscars this morning. Because of his membership in SAG/AFTRA, we were able to see almost all of the movies and for free. We very seldom go to the movies because it’s just too expensive. The only movie that is nominated that we saw in a movie theater was Black Panther, and that was in NYC last year.
Anyway, unlike other years, none of the nominated performances blew us away. They’re good – in some cases quite good, but not, “Oh my god, so-and-so HAS to win!” kind of work. We feel curiously detached. Observing from afar. And there are some nominations that I just don’t get. Oscar nominated? Really?
It will be interesting.
I finished Less yesterday. What an extraordinary novel! I see why it won the Pulitzer – beautifully written. Simply wonderful. Recommend it highly!
I’ve started (about 100 pages in) Andrew McCabe’s book, The Threat. Very well written, with a lot of information as to how the FBI works, how it investigates. Just a bit about “that man” so far, but much more to come, which I eagerly anticipate.
Otherwise, it’s a rainy day, with a high wind warning for tomorrow. You know how I hate very windy days, so I’m not looking forward to Monday. This year, every snowfall includes ice and every front that moves out includes high winds. Like a broken record.
I’m feeling much better in general and my energy level has improved. But it took me four weeks to get there. I’ve never had anything quite like it before and hope to never have it like it again. It got scary there for a while. Don is feeling better, as well, still coughing and congested, but doing better. By the end of this next week, he should be back to normal.
We are grateful, believe me.
I’m still not up to working on the rescued dollhouse. I’m not quite motivated yet, but I’m thinking about it and I have decided how I want the exterior to look. It’s just getting up my energy to start in on it. And I will. Hopefully, soon.
Happy Sunday.

I’m sure you’re frustrated with how long this illness is taking. Keep taking good care of each other and soon you’ll feel well again.
We were out late last night having dinner with friends in town. Early morning today for hockey with our grandson so a nap is likely in order this afternoon – there’s no way we’d be awake for Oscars tonight if we don’t! Hope you both can rest through the day and enjoy the awards tonight.
Off to hockey, in the freezing cold!
X Chy
Claudia says
Stay as warm as you can, Chy!
Wendy T says
Glad you’re better, Claudia. Go take a nap. I’m up early too…it’s my week to request a ride for my mom and she likes to leave for the assisted living facility where my dad lives very early. My siblings and I trade off requesting the rides every week. Enjoy the Oscars tonight. Will be interested in your reaction to the winners.
Claudia says
Thanks, Wendy. You’re a good daughter!
Linda @ A La Carte says
I am glad you are feeling better. I hate when I get up too early it makes me so cranky later in the day. Curious about the Oscars’ more then excited. We shall see. Finally some sunshine today so I’ll go to the ALDI for some groceries.
Claudia says
Me too! I have to really work against being too cranky! No sunshine here, I fear, for at least a couple of days.
Deb says
I think we all just need a good dose of an early spring…think that will help all of us in so many ways! Happy Sunday!
Claudia says
We really do, Deb! It would make an enormous difference!
Mary Bond says
I am pleased to hear that you are on the mend. I do not like too much wind as it screams like a banshee outside my bedroom. I hope your sleep well this evening.
Claudia says
Yes, us too. It’s very windy here and we can hear it howling in the den and in our office. Thanks, Mary.
kathy b says
Oh I will look into The THREAT!
Thanks
Claudia says
Oh, do, Kathy. It’s really good.
Chris K in Wisconsin says
We are “enjoying” the high wind warning today with gusts of 40-50 mph. So tired of all of it. Most of the neighborhood garbage cans in the alley ways are all encased in ice, so there is that. Likely nothing will be flying around. It is beyond ugh.
So glad to hear that you are both feeling better. Maybe you can get a nice nap in this afternoon. Of course then one worries that we won’t be able to sleep well after a nap. So many things!!!
LOVED your sister’s post today about her anniversary. Naughty naughty dogs!! But oh so very cute!
Claudia says
I guess that’s what’s on its way to us tomorrow. I haven’t talked to Mere in the past week, mostly because I was coughing all the time, but I did read her post! Those naughty boys!
kathy in iowa says
glad you two continue to get better. been dragging on too long!
both books sound good. did you read james comey’s book?
stayed home from church, seeing family today due to everything being coated with ice. i’ve already had a nap for waking up early … winds up to 50 mph have been rattling the windows since saturday evening. now it’s time to get some chores done.
hope you enjoy the day, the oscars and maybe also a nap!
kathy in iowa
Claudia says
I didn’t read Comey’s book. Hope to in the future.
Oh, this darned ice! Everyone seems to be getting it. Stay in, stay warm!
Roxie says
Every renovation should start with an inspiring plan! Can’t wait to see what you come up with on the exterior of your find.
I’m ignoring any-and-all depressing weather reports and focusing on making yellow curry from scratch and painting cherry blossoms from a tutorial. Here’s to survival!
Claudia says
Sound like a good plan, Roxie! Stay warm and enjoy painting your cherry blossoms!
Donnamae says
We are having high winds today….but, the sun is shining, so that’s a plus. I’m watching the birds at the bird feeder…wondering if they get motion sickness from all that swinging in the wind? There are 3 cardinals trying to feed right now…they are trying to hang on. Trying bring the operative word here.
Glad to hear you are feeling better. I don’t know what you had…but, I hope you never get it again! Sounds like an afternoon nap would do you both good. Enjoy your day! ;)
Claudia says
I don’t know how they keep their balance in all that wind!
I think it was some kind of flu, simply because it not only hit my respiratory system, but also my intestines.
Thanks, Donnamae!
Melanie says
Glad to hear you are both finally feeling better. Those high winds you will be getting tomorrow are happening here (in IL) right now. They are gusting up to 60 mph! It sounds like a freight train coming through. Was so loud that it woke me up too early this morning. I have been sending up prayers to God/The Universe all day that our power stays on and thankfully, it has.
Claudia says
The winds are relentless here. I couldn’t sleep last night because of them!
Kay says
Hi Claudia. I’ve been gone for a while, since right after we went down to my brother’s memorial. So sorry to hear you both have been under the weather with a stubborn virus. Glad you’re feeling much better and hopefully Don will be soon as well. Your grandmother’s china is exquisite. I have some dessert size plates with delicate little pink roses that belonged to my grandmother. I love to put them on the hutch for display all spring and summer.
The wind has roared all day here, blowing the deep snow we have all over the place. We’ve had several bad snowstorms this month along with sleet and ice storms. Then it gets warm, starts to melt, and then it snows again – a vicious cycle. There’s so much snow piled up in parking lots here, it will still be melting in June. Right after the latest all-day snowstorm last week, I hit rock bottom emotionally. February can just slink off now, please. Feeling more like myself today for the first time in a long time. Even allowing myself to get excited about the full kitchen reno we will embark on this year. Need to decide between 3 contractors who have been very patient with me. It’s time to move on.
Claudia says
You’ve been under enormous stress and sadness, Kay. Thinking of you and welcome back, my friend.
nancybluemoon says
The highs winds started Sunday afternoon here and are to continue through Monday afternoon..at one point they howled so loud that one of my cats ran and hid under my bed…lol…Glad that you are both feeling better!
Claudia says
Same here. I hate them!
Linda P. says
I finished LESS yesterday. (I know the name is supposed to be italicized, but I’m not sure if HTML works in the comments.) I have writer envy! It’s seldom that a writer can speak to all people, prompt shouts of laughter, and create something so poignant, too. Thank you for recommending it. I’ve been recommending it to everyone since I began reading.
Claudia says
It’s a truly wondrous book isn’t it? I don’t know how he did it, but the author is one hell of a writer!
Linda P. says
I wonder if Greer provided his methodology when Less rewrites his unsold novel to make his main character more likable? Feel free to delete this comment if you feels it gives away a key element of the book to those who haven’t read it. It didn’t seem to me to do so.
Nancy says
Have you checked out Ben Peck Winston’s instagram page and his dollhouse miniatures?
Claudia says
Yes. I like them, though they’re a bit too Shabby Chic for me. But he does nice work.
Nancy says
I meant to type Ben Peck Whiston Instagram. His dollhouses are delightful.
Claudia says
The dollhouse is sweet, but it’s very basic. And that’s okay.
