It’s been raining since yesterday and the rain, coupled with snow and ice on the ground, makes for an unattractive landscape. And another icy patch in the parking area, which means I’ll have to salt again. Spring, please come soon. Please.
Provided I can get my car out of here (see above) I’ll pick Don up at the bus station later this morning. He’ll be home for two, or nearly two, days. He’s homesick, and though he loves the NYC apartment, sometimes you just need to be home. Two days off in a row almost never happens in the theater and they have been working 10 hour days for four days in a row. They’re tired.
I can’t wait to see that guy.
More babies. If this is supposed to be the season where houseplants grow dormant, I’m not seeing any evidence of it.
I hope everyone has a lovely day today. I’m making this short because I have to get a move on!
Happy Sunday.
Enjoy your mini reunion—I know you will.
Behind your thriving plant, I spy a beautiful aqua dish with a pink flower and it tickled my brain for some reason. Did your blog once have a photo intro that included a cup that matched that plate? Just wondering. (The things my brain carries around!)
It may look aqua in the picture but it’s green. I got it at Fish’s Eddy in the city. I bought a large plate at the same time that has much the same pattern. Maybe that’s what you’re remembering?
Oh, no telling what I’m remembering…or not! Brain is mush after too much company and the weeks of anguishing over it. Hoping that “real life” isn’t too far off. Love the plate, though.

good luck getting out and then back home with your don. glad for you both to have time at home together. :)

Me too. And then I’ll try to get into the city next week sometime.
Wishing you a safe journey in to the City and back home again. Hope Don gets a good rest. And you too!
Just 38 more days until Spring. Soon, Claudia, soon!!

Oh I’m not going to the city – Don is coming here!
I know you’ll enjoy your time together. My husband travels a lot at different times of the year. I love the anticipation of his homecoming, cleaning and cooking, wanting him to instantly feel relaxed and happy he’s home, especially after one of his long international trips. Today it’s snowing here, yet again. Southern WI seems to be getting all the snow we didn’t have all winter in just one month. As tired as I am of it all, I’m going to selfishly enjoy shutting out the world and being just the two of us empty nesters.
Yes, that feeling of shutting out the world is a lovely one! Enjoy, Kay.
Drive safe!
I will. Thanks, Sue.
I know you and Don will enjoy some time home together. Your plants are splendid my friend. Hugs!
Thank you, Linda!
You always have the best pictures! Love how your plants think they are living in a warm climate.
I do, too. It’s warm and dry here, but they seem to think it’s tropical!
I’m so happy that Don is making it home for two days! I sure you two will a wonderful time just being together….somehow, I know you will! ;)
We are enjoying every minute. Don needed to get out of Dodge, if you know what I mean.
Oh, enjoy every single minute of those 2 days! I know you will. Did Stella help with any baking in anticipation of Don’s visit?
That ice is such a pain in the tush. We have the same spots every year where it pools and becomes mini skating rinks. And when it happens on our sidewalks, I just don’t want to chop on it and have the slabs get damaged. Salt when it is of a temp that is able to melt, and sand when not are all to be used. Like the streets. People who live in warmer climes may not know that salt won’t melt ice if the temps are too cold. They have started using beet juice on some of the roads, but we have heard of people having some vehicle issues when that accumulates on the undersides. Winter ~ ugh.
Well, hope you are back home from picking Don up and enjoying being in MHC together. Have a great Sunday!!
Stella helped yesterday afternoon, which you’ll see in Monday’s blog post.
I hate the ice. This year, especially, it’s been very troublesome. I think it’s because of the very cold to very warm (for winter) swings in temperature. The snow starts to melt for a few days and then it gets cold again and it all freezes up again.
Hope you can get out safely to pick up Don. He’ll enjoy the break at home, and so will you. I drive my daughter back to school today. Sad to see her go but maybe she’ll come home President’s weekend.
If she does, you don’t have to wait long! Fingers crossed.
My dad would have been 87 today. Very dear man. He was raised in southeast OK in McCurtain County. Don may have heard of that.
Have a wonderful time home with Don! Make him pancakes tomorrow for Shrove Tuesday! Then Ash Wednesday the next day of course. Best to you both! Becky
Thinking of you and your dad, Becky. Much love.
Enjoy your days with Don. Forget about everything and just concentrate on each other.
Marilyn
We are doing just that, Marilyn. Thank you!
I can see why Don is homesick for Mockingbird Hill Cottage!…It’s warm and cozy and you are there Claudia… Have a happy time together!
We are. Thank you so much, Nancy!
Pictures of your house plants inspired me to order some online…the choices around here are pretty dismal. But Amazon came through with an African violet and a heart leaf philodendron. Both arrived in good shape and are acclimating nicely, so thanks!
Wonderful! Happy to have inspired you. You will enjoy them, I know.
my gosh.
the word trouper comes to mind! for both of you!
xo
Thank you, Tammy!
At the end of CBS Sunday morning show, there was a preview for next weeks show. It had Jimmy Buffet and cast of new show. I’m sure I saw your Don…..does he have an eye patch on? If so it was him. Did you see it?
Yes, that’s him with the eye patch on. You’re the second person to tell me about this, so thank you! I will watch next Sunday.
Hope you had a grand weekend together, Claudia. We’ve had lots of rain here, and the ground is super soggy, but the temps have been mild. In fact the crocus are budding, and our lenten rose is in full bloom, signs that spring is getting a bit closer every day. Hurrah!
Oh that seems so far off for us, and the sad fact is that is. I won’t see anything blooming until at least April. Sigh!
I just watched Don sing a song on Instagram about “may as well smile.” That was seriously the sweetest thing. You are so very lucky you have each other.
Be safe! The ice is the worst thing about winter…
Isn’t that sweet? He just wrote it. He’s a great guy, Elle.
Thanks!
